Very good value.
I used this to replace a Fishman Prefix Plus-T unit in a Carvin Cobalt concert acoustic. The Fishman unit just conked out after 5 years. Too bad; it was a very nice pre-amp.

Surprisingly, I didn't lose any tone at all with the Dean Markley ProMag Plus. This pickup had excellent articulation and clarity across all 6 strings. Very nice, balanced tone. I liked it so much that I hard-wired the pickup to the existing end pin jack and discarded the Fishman unit. Don't get me wrong-the Fishman was great, but it was dead and I didn't feel like shelling out for a replacement. I use an out-board volume and effects pedal anyway, so I can do fine without the expensive bells & whistles on the Fishman.

This is a very fine pickup, and yes, it does say 'Dean Markley' on it, but I note that a lot of guitars say 'Fender' and 'Gibson' on the headstocks. Is that any reason to slam them? Especially if you note that you don't own the pickup, and haven't even used it! Gimme a break...
I use it and highly recommend it.
For the money, it's hard to beat.

I used to play guitar in my church's praise team. My grandfather made a guitar on a Martin D-28 without a pickup, so I needed one to make thing easier. I bought this on a whim wondering what it would sound like. First off, the pickup didn't really fit well in my sound hole. Because of that, it would slide around in the sound hole and scrape the sides around the pick guard. Second, it didn't have a great sound quality. I really like a pure guitar sound, and this added some reverb that I couldn't really change. It also had some very loud humming when I wasn't playing, which is bad when you're playing in church. Third, when I put the jack on my strap pin, it didn't allow any room for my strap. It met the need, but I should have gone for something better.

Comments about Dean Markley ProMag Plus XM Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

Sounds good and would sell better without the Graffiti covering the entire pickup with letters bigger than the one on my guitar. Ugly as sin so I sanded it off . To people saying I miss the point and it's all about sound well look at your car, truck, motorcycle or wife and say that.

I have several acoustic guitars that, on occasion, I had wished I could amplify and use in a group setting. This pickup does the trick. I can use it on nearly every guitar (larger sound holes can be a problem) and I'm ready to go in moments. Well worth the price....and it's not bad looking either!

      * I'm puzzled by this pick up. Had one previously which was absolutely great. no trouble to use, just good good good. I gifted it to a friend and bought my current one which is ok but just doesn't sound as good as the previous one. it's good just not as good as my older previous one ??????????

I would recommend it, but with a warning. of my recent experience

This was exactly what I was looking for. It works great it you wanna just plug in a practice amp and play. Installation was a breeze. Like the other reviews stated, you have to turn up the volume just to overcome the guitar itself, but that's to be expected. All in all, great product for the price

Comments about Dean Markley ProMag Plus XM Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

I had previously been using a Lawrence pickup for my twelve string guitar and it was functional for the purpose. The biggest drawback was the extra long cable from the pickup to the 1/4" male jack at the other end. I was always tripping over it during performance and pulling it out of the sound hole.

The Markley pickup provides great tones while having a more practical cord with a 1/4" female connector that attaches to the strap knob at the end of the guitar. While I have had it for just a short time, I am looking forward to many years of continued use.

Comments about Dean Markley ProMag Plus XM Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

I used this pickup at two different open mics this weekend. It worked very well. At one it was plugged into a preamp and for the other it wasn't. Some have complained that they can't get enough volume from pickups of this type. The simple and inexpensive solution is to use an equalizer pedal or similar device with a 9 volt battery as a preamp. This will boost the signal, give you a master volume control, plus allow you to tweak your sound. I suspect that a chorus pedal woukd work just as well...
It's a very simple and attractive design. Installed very easily.
It seems to be well made and looks like it will last.
This is the most inexpensive way to amplify your acoustic guitar.

Comments about Dean Markley ProMag Plus XM Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

For the price it is a great buy. With a little work you can have a great sound from any acoustic.
Installs in seconds. No batteries. Looks great.
Excellent sound quality. Lower output than guitars with buit-in preamps. Either turn up the amp or get a booster pedal. A noise gate will most likely be needed.
Great buy. Turns your acoustic into an electric in a few seconds.
Sounds really good, nice single coil tone, not brittle at all, mellow and glassy. A+

Comments about Dean Markley ProMag Plus XM Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

This pickup installs in seconds. The chord secures to the bottom strap button and is long enough to not get in the way of playing. It's a must for someone who doesn't want to alter their guitar by drilling holes. All the strings ring out crisp and clear and there is no background noise. Wish I had picked one up years ago.
This pickup is easy to install and remove. No holes to drill and the wire does not get in the way of playing.
Dean Markley lives up to their reputation with this very popular pickup. The acoustic reproduction with minor EQ adjustments provides a true guitar sound .
Made of wood, the Pro Mag Plus compliments my acoustic guitars in appearance and captures their tones in all ranges. Compared to more expensive acoustic pickups, it gets the job done at a very affordable price.
