OVERVIEW

Direct drop-in replacement for Fender standard 11- hole pickguards.

The DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard is for electric guitars with standard 11-hole pickguards. It's got an Area '58 pickup in the neck, Area '67 in the middle position, and an Area '61 at the bridge.

Area '58

The Area '58 offers excellent treble response and dynamics with little magnetic pull and virtually no hum.

Area '67

In the middle position, the Area '67 pushes sounds like the single-coil pickups of the late '60s-bright and very clean. The Area '67 totally eliminates hum and offers reduced magnet pull for improved sustain and clarity.

Area '61

Finally, the Area '61 in the bridge position brings a steely, yet woody sound to the table. As with the other two pickups, the Area '61 eliminates hum and features reduced magnet pull. These 3 guitar pickups combine to create unique, undeniably vintage tone.

Call or click today and infuse your Strat with vintage tone.

Glad I decided to do this, wish I'd done it a long time ago.
Just installed this last week, very easy to do, took more time to resrting the guitar than the pickguard. You could not ask for a more complete upgrade, new pickups, pickguard, pots, and, 5 way switch. The price seems a little high until you add everything up and, then if you had somebody do it for you it becomes a pretty good deal.
Now for the good stuff- I never heard sounds from the old pickups like this and, this is an american strat supposedly with the good stuff. Well let me say WOW!!!!!!!!! this Strat can peel the paint off the walls or can be just as mellow as you want. The pickups really respond to your picking style and, the harmonics are super. I play anything from hard rock, country, blues and, just about anything in between.
The combination of these pickups 58,67,61 are a real good match and, adds much versatality the overall sound. I hardly ever used the middle pickup before but I can see a difference now for a new era of music.
I also forgot to mention the main reason that I was changing pickups anyway and, any of you single coil players know what I'm leading to- hum and buzz- none with this setup and, that's just super not to have to deal with anymore. I highly reccommend this setup if you are looking for a Great upgrade that is easy to do and, can definately be done by yourself with the results that will make you say, Thank You Dimarzio!
Very well made in one neat package.
Like I said before add everything up and, then have somebody do this for you and, you realize that this is pretty good deal.

I bought this to improve the sound of a Made In Mexico strat that I've had for years. I listened to many you tube clips and read many reviews in my quest for and easy sound upgrade, and I thought this pickguard would be a great balance of improved sound, good value, and quick project. Unfortunately I had to shave out both the neck and bridge pockets to make it fit on my strat, and only 2 of the screw holes actually lined up to fasten it down. I spent a long time debating whether or not to return it as I felt I shouldn't have to do such modifications to a $300+ "drop in" system. Ultimately, I decided to modify and redrill some new screw holes. Strat sounds awesome, but it was a huge disapointment that it wasn't the plug and play product it was touted to be.

WOW, Great Sounding pickup trio!!!

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

Overall, this is a very nice pickup set. I have purchased several dimarzio pickups in the past both humbuckers and single coils. What sold me on the area pickups was when I bought an area '61 for my middle pickup in my Ibanez S5470. It sounded EXCELLENT in that guitar and it was completely noiseless - moreso than the two other humbuckers in that guitar. So, I got this area preloaded pickguard for my favorite SRV signature series stratocaster and I could not be more pleased. It sounds 10 times better than it did with the stock Texas Specials. And, the Texas Specials were indeed noisy. I think I have the perfect strat tone as far as I am concerned and I don't care what the neighbors say - lol. This pickup trio also makes this a perfect guitar for recording. I mean, you get nothing but pure tone signal with no noise whatseover. Amazing! I think I am going to get another set for my other maple neck stratocaster.
Set of 3 strat single coil pickups - totally noiseless and beautiful sound.
A single coil pickup with no hum and classic fender tones gets a 10 from me.
I think the price is about right for what you are getting which is three pickups, a pickguard, all the pots, pickup selector switch, and a heck of a nice job with the wiring. In addition, it's solderless so it's a good value considering what you would pay if you walked into a music store and said, I need this, this, and this with all new components and I want it wired up and ready to go in 10 minutes!

Exceptional Tone and Super Quiet

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

I've waited a while to write this review, so by this time my Strat with this setup has been through many, many rehearsals and 9 or 10 gigs. I love the clarity, quack and bell-like chime of a strat, but I simply cannot tolerate the 60 cycle hum that true single coils produce. Probably because I cut my teeth on humbucker-equipped guitars. As such, I've usually put a low output humbucker in my strats (Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II, for example), and I just dealt with the fatter midrange and loss of clarity that produced. I read great reviews about these pickups, and figured I'd give them a try (I've tried other noiseless single coils before, but was never satisfied with the tone).

First of all, these pickups sound GREAT. They sound like true single coils. Compared to Texas Specials, these have a more vintage-style output and clearer. Compared to vintage spec strat pickups, these are a little smoother in the top end. In other words, they sound a lot like other strat pickups, just slightly different. Personally, I feel they have one of the best strat sounds going, and I've played and owned a lot of different strat pickups.

Secondly, these are the quietest pickups I have ever used. Far more quiet than any humbucker I've ever played. Even humbuckers with perfect coil symmetry are noisier than the Area pickups. I've used these in a club, playing high gain rock out of an Orange Tiny Terror with the gain cranked, surrounded by neon signs, and all I heard when I wasn't playing was a tiny bit of hum that was only discernable when I put my head a foot away from my speaker. Amazing.

I cannot recommend these highly enough, even for you traditionalists out there. These are fantastic pickups.
For your money, you get a nice pickguard that's fully shielded, great pots, a very nice selector switch, a solderless connector and a trio of exceptional strat pickups.
I'm a bit of a traditionalist, so I soldered all the connections anyway, bypassing the solderless connector. Basically, I just spent more time than necessary putting this in, and it still took longer to restring the guitar than to replace the pickguard/pickups.
Add it up: 3 pickups, 3 250K pots, a 5-way selector switch, pickguard, pickup covers and knobs. This is a good deal.

Great Strat tone without the noise! In my opinion, these blow away the stock strat pups.I put this in my 1996 american standard, some of the screw holes didn't line up,but no big deal.I tried seymour duncans, lace sensors, and emg pickups through the years.I always end up going back to Dimarzios. You will get all your favorite strat tones,Gilmour to SRV.The area 61(bridge position)won't do heavy metal, but classic rock it will handle.I will stick with Dimarzio pups for now on. Been playing pro off and on,and working on guitars for 29 years(since age 13).

A Silent Strat...at last

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

I purchased this product to replace the Texas Specials that were stock in my Strat. They sounded good, but were too beefy...not enough sparkle. The biggest problem was the noise. I dropped this pre-wired Area Pickguard into the guitar, plugged it up, turned on the amp...and I started to search for what was wrong...the amp wasn't coming on...so I thought. I kid you not, I brushed the strings and beautiful sound poured forth. I was so used to single coil hum as soon as the amp came on, that I thought there was a problem! They are that quiet. However, the best treat was the tone. Rich, Fendery tones, nice sparkle, and no sacrifice in sound quality to get the quiet. In fact my Strat sounds more authentic now. These pickups are GREAT!

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

I have tried just about every single coil size humbucker Duncan makes, and was satisfied with none of them, because they introduced mid range qualities that are I don't really believe belong in a Stratocaster. With the Area set you get a pretty good hard rock tone with the right amp settings pedals if you use pedals.
Just about any tone you'd need to get from a Strat is in these pickups. They sound fantastic in every position of the 5 way switch. Nice and responsive to the volume and tone controls. Middle pickup bypasses the tone controls which is exactly how I like Strat setups.
I would have given this a perfect score except for one small detail. I put these on two of my American Strats. One a standard and the other a US plus. The holes did not line up exactly. Other than that the wiring looks super clean, and the terminal block makes installation a 5 minutes process once you have removed your old pick guard. The sound quality is single coil on the cleans and you get a nice smooth overdriven tone. Everything as others have said is true about how quiet this set is. I have an Eric Johnson sig Strat that sounds fantastic.. but it does get played as much as it should because the pickup noise drives me absolutely nuts. For the Area sets... I am able to turn turn off my noise control devices and enjoy not getting my tone and sustain affected by gates. Amazing clarity whether play clean or dirty. Exceptional lead tones on the bridge and neck pickups.
I could have just bought the pickups and installed into my existing setup for significantly cheaper, but I have to say for anyone who would normally pay someone else to do a pickup installation, this is absolutely the way to go. Anyone that can operator a screw driver and a wire snipper / stripper can install this and save money on installation and setup costs.

Clean w/ good harmonics

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

Got mine on discount from MF (thank you "Scratch & Dent") The tones are very "Fendery", except that they are noisless! (does that make them not Fendery at all?) They aren't as edgy as stock '67's, but they have a nice rounded sparkle to them that sounds great clean or overdriven - it dirtys up real nice! I'm also finding some nice harmonics here and there as I play with it. I am very happy with mine. Overall I recommend this product, especially as it is essentially a drop in. Prewired is good!

Sweet Sounding Pickups

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

I just replaced my American Strat pickups and wow what a difference. Due to the feedback issues with the Fender pickups, I only used position 2 and 4. Now, I'm using positions 1 thru 5 and I'm discovering a new wealth of tones. I should have done this ten years ago. But hold on, that's just the beginning. Positions 1 and 2 adds more bass and dark tones for that smooth jazz, blues and crunch sound. Whereas position 3 (middle) Area 67 PU sparks and quacks for that funky, fusion sound. And when it's time to burn, switch to position 4 and hold on. The nice thing about position 4 is that it has the harmonics and amp feedback going with clarity. Position 5, is for hard rocking and cut thru the mix tone you'll need for solos.Needless to say, Mikey likes these pickups. Thanks Dimarzio for the nice package.

These PUPs Sing!

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

I was VERY skeptical about these pickups before I installed them. I have a "newer" American Standard Strat (2002) I've played for ten years with stock pick-ups that I've never been completely happy with. I was a sucker for waiting so long...THESE DIMARZIO PICKUPS SING! Clean, bright bell tones, responsive to how much you 'dig in', diverse tone quality for each of the 5 pickup switch settings, great hi-gain/crunch tone, easy installation. If you're even thinking about getting these, just do it.
Not being a gear-head I was a little intimidated with installation. No worries...the online video was fantastic. The whole process took about 10 minutes. Solderless. Very plug-and-play. I'll never pick up a soldering iron again!
No complaints. Very clean. Of particular note is the quality way these things sound...wow! Phenomenal! Clear, crisp, responsive, diverse. Also, the pickguard fit my American Standard Strat' perfectly. All connections looked solid (no frays, no solder balls, etc.).
$280 might be a lot for some, but the ease of installation and way my strat sounds now is well worth it. For me, the value is great.

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

I have many Strats and I had recently built a component Strat with a fantastic neck. My choice of vintage pickups was poor and the guitar sat unplayed. Over the years I have had several Fender Noiseless Strats including their latest and hated every one. I had previously added a DiMarzio noiseless single coil to a Deluxe Tele and loved the sound so I decided to try the DiMarzio pre-wired Area Pickguard. Installed easily (5 minutes)! Sound is SUPER... unlike the lifeless Fender Noiseless these pickups SING!!!

Haven't stopped playing it since I installed these pickups ... I can now enjoy a great neck ...the guitar is beautiful, sounds amazing! ...and is quiet!!! Everyone seeks their own sound but I'm 100% satisfied!

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

Although not a traditional strat guy, I love strats and own 5 of them currently. I have never been too crazy about most of the bridge pickups that come on strats (american MIM deluxe etc) I kinda prefer a fatter warmer sound (weak PAF). In fact 3 of my strats have HB in the bridge (Dimarzio 36th Anniversary, David Allen A2, and Tone Zone) I have gone thru a variety of pickups in my 25 plus years of playing and piecing together partocasters.
The AREA set is bye far the best combination I have ever heard. The controls are extremely usable - volume roll off retains top end and clarity, bridge pu wired to the tone knob allows you to roll off treble on higher gain setting for nice warm crunch. The tone knobs are usable thru about 75% of their range. If you have always played with everything on 10... that will change as you explore the versatility. I also feel the middle pu (67) is probably one of the best mid pus I have ever used when by itself. There are times when I think i would like the bridge pu (61) to have a little more gain but I think it would compromise the quack tone when in position 4 (although I refer to it as position 2) You can coax more grit with overdrives and have a convincing brown sound rhythm if needed. The set easily covers jazz, country, classic rock, pop, indie, modern rock and stops short of metal. I rate the neck a 9/10, middle 9.5/10, and the bridge a 9/10. The prewired is a great value as well.. I am done looking when it comes to strat pickups... oh yeah and absolutely no buzz.

I used this set-up on my "frankenstien" 12 string. P-bass body with a Fender villager 12 string neck. This combination required some modifications to the bass body (duh!) but I cannot believe the sound quality difference. Really superior depth and clarity. These are not sold as 12 string parts, but if you have a project guitar that sounds thin or "light" these monsters will make it roar!

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

my main reason for the purchase was because the stock n3's with the s1 switching were defective. After researching on the web I was impressed with the tone of the area pups. They are quiet, to a point, and we guitarists know that when we want that wet distortion singing lead tone, you will get some noise, but very controllable. The bell like tones are all there, very nice nice work with the soldering. The connecting wires did seem small ( gauge wise), but hey, I dig my upgrade.

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

When ordering a prewired pickguard, be absolutely sure of its dimensions. I have an ancient Lotus with a smooth-as-butter neck (hey, it happens). I've retro-fitted with staggered tuners to get rid of the string tree on the head and have mad some other minor modifications. It has served me well (they totally duplicated the Fender wiring for the single-coils), but it was time for an upgrade. The problem is, the Area Model Prewired Pickguard doesn't fit the Lotus' wide open body cavity. I'm either going to have to do some routing, or I may change plans and drop the DiMarzio into a mid-market Fender I picked up cheap at an estate sale.

Bottom line: I think this DiMarzio will do what I want, but if you're looking at it, be absolutely sure of those cavity dimensions so you know it will drop into your guitar body.
Seems to have what I'm looking for, based on customer reviews on Musicians Friend and some social websites.
Seems well built. Wiring and framework are neat in appearance and clean

I have '91 Strat Plus Deluxe. Bought these to replace a set of Joe Barden PUs that were replacements for the stock Lace Sensors. I could never get that quack and sparkle out of my Strat that I wanted with those other PUs (esp the Bardens). I love playing my Strat again. Great tone from these, better harmonics and vibe than the Lace.

I have been playing a strat for 20+ years, and have been fighting my surroundings for 20+ years. I recently purchased a Dr. Z amp , great amps by the way, but it only enhanced the hum. This was so easy to do, took about 5 minutes to install. My band memebers looked at me and said "what happend? what did you do to your guitar?". Sound is great, and the best thing..... NO HUM!

All Tone, No Hum.

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

I purchased this pickguard assembly for a Strat build to replace (retire) my "64 Strat. After much research I chose this assembly to attempt to capture as much vintage vibe as possible and to bypass the 60 cycle hum inherent to most single coils. This pickup assembly delivers that completely. While all Strat pickups need adjusting to capture the sweet spot, this assembly does everything the manufacturer claims. The Alnico 2 magnets also provide the opportunity to adjust the pole pieces closer to the string without "strat-itis". I'm very pleased.
Provides classic Strat tones with little to no hum (based on amp settings). Adjusting pickups yields great results. Installation is a breeze.
Pots and switches are first rate. No corners cut. Solid build. Excellent solder work on assembly. Solderless connection was foolproof.
Excellent value when compared to other solderless builders. I could easily buy a different setup (such as the Gilmour) for about the price of other "boutique" offerings. While I'm not knocking the other excellent manufacturers out there, this DiMarzio unit is a great product at a great price.

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

I recently installed this setup onto my "Blacktop H/H" strat to replace those cheesy humbuckers. The rig didnt line up with the holes that well but close enough. The installation was very simple, I had my soldering iron out and ready to go but didnt need it. The sound that came forth was amazing... all three pups had there own distinctive vintage sound and yes, very quiet! If your looking for a way to upgrade any strat, this is it.

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

Very good sounding pick-ups. I have always liked the way Fender pick-ups sounded buy never liked the hum. I found it annoying both with practicing and while playing. Gibson has been my go to guitar for years. But I was watching a youtube video with some guy playing on these pick-ups and when to the DeMarzio site and checked them out ordered a set from MF. Installation couldn't have been easier. The pick guard has 11 holes mine only had 9 so drilled a couple of extras and a trip to Home Depot to buy some replacement screws I was all set.

The pick-ups sound great, the best part no hum with that strat sound. Now I am thinking of upgrading my Strat which I am starting to play again.

If you are in the market for upgrading your Strat pick-ups buy these. Shipping was fast and installation easy.
Drop in replacement for Stratocaster. Great sounding pick-ups with no hum, excellent tones and easy installation.
Really put together well the wiring and soldering is clean and everything works.
Overall a great value comes with everything pre-wired and a no solder connection. You just attach the wires to a little connector, screw driver included. Can't beat that.
