    DiMarzio

Engineered to recreate the best features of classic Strat pickups without the noise.

The DiMarzio Area Strat Pickup set contains 3 well-designed pickups: the Area '58 (neck), the Area '67 (middle), and the Area '61 (bridge). Easy to install, they'll bring a collection of authentic tones to your Strat-style guitar while reducing noise.

    The Area '58 (neck)
There are two major differences between a great vintage Strat pickup and an average one: treble response and dynamics. A great pickup is clear and bright, but not thin-sounding. A great one makes the sound jump out of the amp when you pick hard and drop way down when you play softly, and the tone varies when the string is picked at different spots. The best pickup DiMarzio ever heard like this was from 1958, and that's what inspired the Area 58, with two major differences. This pickup has way less magnet pull, and virtually no hum.

The Area 58 has obvious similarities to the Virtual Vintage 2.1 it replaces, but there are several non-visible performance factors that have changed. Dynamic range and string definition are greatly increased, leading to improvements in both clean chord-playing and overdriven soloing. The Area 58 is very sensitive to small height adjustment differences: close to the strings produces a fatter, slightly compressed blues tone and further away yields crystal clean sounds. The final improvement is in noise reduction. All of the Virtual Vintage pickups have better hum cancellation than full-size humbuckers. Area 58 and Area 61 are even quieter.

    The Area '67 (middle)
The Monterey Pop Festival of 1967 was a watershed event in American music. When it was over, the world had heard and felt the sound of a Strat in the hands of a master. Single-coils in 1967 were bright and very clean. And, of course, they hummed. DiMarzio has captured the classic bright and clean sound but totally eliminated the hum with their patented Area technology. They've also reduced magnet pull by 40% for improved sustain and clarity. The Area 67 has the chime of 60s pickups, and the 2 and 4 positions are light, bright and quack-happy.

Strat pickups in the late 1960s used full-strength Alnico 5 magnets. The patented magnetic field of the Area models is more efficient and focused than it is on "true" single-coils, which allows us to use Alnico 2 instead. There's much less magnet pull, but no loss of output. This is a major advantage in the neck and middle positions, where sustain and intonation can both suffer if the strings are exposed to strong magnetic fields. In the bridge position, the patented technology of the Area 67 produces a sound that's very bright but not brittle.

    The Area '61 (bridge)
DiMarzio has been working on serious vintage single-coil design with no hum for twelve years. Their goal has always been to capture the best qualities of pickups heard from the 1950s and early 60s. They played several pickups from the early 60s that had a unique tonality: they were steely, yet woody-sounding. Naturally, DiMarzio wanted to nail this sound, and wanted to do it with no hum and less magnet-pull. The Area 61 does it.

Over the last 10 years DiMarzio has gotten hundreds of requests from guitarists asking for the Texas blues sound. This sound is centered on single-coils from the early 1960's, but it's also based on heavy strings and strong hands. We can't change your strings or your hands, but the Area 61 captures the tonal bedrock this sound is based on. Like the Area 58, the Area 61 really responds to different pick attacks: played hard, it sounds louder and tougher than you'd expect from a vintage pickup, but it cleans up immediately by picking softer or rolling down the volume control. And like the Area 58, its ability to cancel hum is superior to full-size humbuckers.

Comments about DiMarzio Area Strat Pickup Set:

These pickups Rock! I put these in my Highway One and it has brought new life to my Strat! I play mainly blues and rock, and these pickups offer all the tone I'm looking for, without the hum! You can definitely tell the difference between all 3 pickups. I play these through a Fender amp and wow these things scream! They are easy to install too. They just require a little soldering and bang you're done. Great job Dimarzio!

Comments about DiMarzio Area Strat Pickup Set:

Great, Quiet Pickups with strat like tones. Once installed you have to tweak the pickup heights, tone/volume knobs to get those strat like tones. Very Quiet, Handles high gain in neck and middle especially well. The 67 is bright for me and I may go with the 58/58/61 setup as others have done. Humbuckers will never replicate a true warm single coil sound but these sure do get real close without the hum.

Comments about DiMarzio Area Strat Pickup Set:

I previously had Texas Specials in my Fender Stratocaster Standard. I wanted pickups that handled better distortion/overdrive. The Area pickup set are exactly what I was looking for. I had the pickups installed using Eric Johnson style wiring.

These are some pretty good pickups. I wanted to upgrade my 1991 MIM strat i had already put 69 custom shop pups in one of my strats that turned out good....but these humbucking pickups give you u a little added thump and tonal options than single coils. You can get a humbucking tone out of all the pickups and still have that well known strat sound. Overall you cant go wrong with these if u wanna add more tone to your guitar.

Comments about DiMarzio Area Strat Pickup Set:

I installed these p-ups (58 neck, 67 mid, 61 bridge) in my ash body, rosewood fret board American strat. I got rid of the middle p-up tone jumper ,for the Eric Johnson style wiring, so I now have a bridge only tone. I never use the middle position on the 5 way switch anyway. Back to the pick-ups, they were very well made, and fit great. They don't have the glass and crispness of the single coils but that is a small price to pay for pure silence in an environment full of dimmers, fluorescent lights and 60 cycle hum. The 2 & 4 positions yield plenty of strat quack, the 58 neck pure cleans, while the 61 bridge does the same but can still dish out the grit. Way to go Dimarzio!

I just replaced my stock pickups in my 62' Fender strat reissue with these and I couldn't be more pleased. I just can't believe the tone of these! They sound great clean or overdriven, and are very quiet without being sterile. Installation was a snap ( I had never soldered anything in my life) and I was able to do it so you can too. I bought these soley based on the reviews I read online and they did not disappoint!

After doing my internet homework, I was thrilled with these pickups, they sound great and are dead silent. These do run a little warm, but just drop the bass and their great.

Super Pleased, kept the tone but left the noise!

                By Joel-00paW

                from Syracuse, NY

Comments about DiMarzio Area Strat Pickup Set:

Super pleased with these. I play in a very electrically noisy environment and even with heavy shiedling inside the guitar, I was still getting a lot of hum. These replaced a set of Fender Tex-Mex pickups and sounded similar, althought these are hotter. The noise is gone. There's a very small amount of hum but the only time you can hear it is when I'm alone in the room. Now I can play anywhere on stage, in any switch position, with no hum concerns. I'm sold!
Went with the recommendations inside the packaging. Setup pickup height as listed.

I should clarify that I later discovered that the reason the Tex-Mex (and any other single-coils) were so noisy was that although I had put a copper foil loop around the outer perimeter of the pickup covers, the foil was not touching the foil on the back of the pickguard. I have two identical, fully shielded strats with Tex-Mex pickups, one noisy and one not, and discovered a tiny gap around the noisy one's pickup shielding. So, heads up - make sure your pickups are shielded around the outside and that the sheilding is grounded before you go doing other crazy things like buying expensive pickups.
Comes with quality screws and springs.
Black and white wires were already tied together and shielded so I only had to hook up the red and green wires. The wires were pre-stripped and tinned easily during soldering. Pickup covers were gleaming white, magnet pole pieces have beveled edges which prevents fracturing or catching on your strings/hands.
3x as expensive as the ones they replaced, but once you play, you forget the cost.
