Great high output bridge pickup that has a focused low-mid spectrum and still good highs without being razor sharp! Even though it was designed in the 70's you can still get modern sounds out of it.
I have a Schecter Solo-6 that came with EMG 81/85. Though distortion levels were great, i found that the 81 was way to bright, and somehow the 85 was way too dark to the point of being overly muddy and useless.
I replaced the 81 with a Super Distortion (DP100) and the 85 with a Breed Neck (DP165) along with 500k controls... and couldnt be happier. The SD has a lot more meat and bass than the 81 which made the pickup much more versatile. I can still play all the heavy palm-muted stuff, and still get the crisp crunch of classic rock. Cleans up suprisingly well at low volums too.
No issues with quality.
Dimarzio is the best bang for the money in the pickup world IMO.

This pickup put the last nail in the coffin for not liking Dimarzio Pickups. I have always used Duncans. I had bought a used S.G. from a friend and the stock pickups where pretty weak. So I thought I would try something new and go with Dimarzio, and i see now that was a mistake. I was excited when it arrived in the mail cause this pickup is supposed to be legendary, but after I installed it and plugged it in i was extremely disappointed. I had my jcm volume set on three with a decent amount of gain, and i got the worst sounding uncontrollable feedback from this thing. I even tried standing fithteen feet from my amp facing the other way and it still squealed uncontrollably. so I put the amp on standby and checked the wiring to make sure all was right, and I could not find a thing wrong. I wrote dimarzio and tech told me to place foam behind the pickup, but I still has uncontrollable feedback, even with my Ns-2 all the way up. I do give the pickup kudo's for having a great crucnhy sound on OD with a great clean for a high output pickup, but once you stop playing the feedback shatters your eardrums. I dunno if maybe i got a defective pickup, but this is my second DImarzio pickup ( the other being a Norton) to have feedback issue's.I have never had such problems with my Duncan pickups, I can stand in front of my Raging JCM half stack with my jb, or invader equipped guitars and have little to no uncontrollable pickups. It would be a great Pickup if it didn't have the feedback issue, but like I said maybe I got a defective one.

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:
The sound of this pick up is what musicians were raised up listenning to. So many names of famous guitarists that use them it would be impossible to name them all. Every guitar I own has one in the bridge position. The only exceptions would be the vintage collector guitars which are on display and aren't played.

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:
This pickup is simply the perfect pickup for Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and few other genres with the right amplifier. It has perfect highs, mids and lows. I have it in a strat with Heavy blues 2 in the neck. Very good combination. Now I have the ultimate blues/Rock/Hm guitar that can also play jazz! The clean is surprisingly good and useable unlike the JB that I have in another guitar! The JB is a one trick pony, this does what the JB does + more.

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:
I have hot rodded alot of guitars with pick ups, tunning keys, pots and switches and have been happy with most of them. I put this pickup in a BC Rich Mockingbird and she loves it. I cant believe how clear each note rings out now. It also cleans up great when you roll down the volume knob. That is why I tried this pickup because the stock pup was great wide open but got muddy when rolled down on the vol. knob. Out of all the aftermarket pups I have used this one is the most versitile pup I have tried yet. An all around great pup. If you play alot of different styles this could be your do all pup. Well worth the price. I am very happy with it.

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:
I build guitars for customers that always want the new best pickup. I always steer them back to the best old pickups. The Super Distortion is always the pickup I go back to when I don't like the sound I am getting from a guitar. Yes, it sounds better in some diff. wood and neck configs, but just an all around good pickup in any rock guitar. Way quieter than many pickups out there as far as hum and hiss. Just replaced a Suhr Aldridge w/Super pickup in a Charvel of mine. Much quieter than the Suhr. If you are a Duncan fan, that is cool. They make great pickups. But, this is the one I count on every time. Great output, and great sound. Buy one!!

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:
This pickup made all the difference in my sound. I love it. I just can't say enough great stuff about it. On 10 its simply vicious! Back off a little to 8-7 and you have a typical "hot" sound with all the goodness. It wont cleanup all the way but then again.. go to the mid/neck PU for that. This pickup is worth every penny! I put it in my strat and I love it! You wont be disappointed. DiMarzio really did it right with this one!

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:
I dropped this into a "Washburn Paul Stanley V" and have been VERY pleased. Before I get digs on the guitar, I am a huge KISS fan (original makeup era). This pickup (along with a setup) has made this guitar great for hard rock/all metal. I know quite a few guitarists who use this pickup and all of them are VERY pleased with it.

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:
This is a great sounding pickup for hard rock and blues. That's pretty well covered in all the other reviews. In single-coil mode, it can make a nice country sound on my strat when using the bridge switching position, or when combined with the mid pup. I am using a multi-effects pedal and can switch amp models to get this country sound. If you are replacing the stock PU in an MIM Fat Strat, you may want to spend your precious dollars elsewhere. I was already very impressed with that pickup, but this one is definitely hotter. It becomes a matter of personal preference. I needed to install this pickup backwards (North toward the bridge) to provide hum cancelling with the middle (North) pickup, and it was not a problem. I just had to reverse the wires. Some pickups are asymmetrical which can change the sound when turned around. The installation instructions on the website made it easy for me to figure it all out. If you are playing a strat with a single coil in the bridge, and you don't feel like you are getting the aggressive tone you need for some of the material you play, then you should consider this pickup (see their website for switching between single-coil, and humbucker). You will be adding a new voice to your guitar that has some real "attitude".

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:
I rebuilt my old 65 Gibson Melody Maker and added this pickup to replace the single coil. This puppy screams. It has made my guitar a MONSTER!
Let's face it. The Classic Rock sound comes from this pickup and all the great ones have used it. Need I Say More?
