OVERVIEW

A smokin' bridge-position pickup.

Take a DiMarzio Super Distortion humbucker, add a mini-switch and 4-conductor wiring for parallel and single-coil operation, and you have the DiMarzio Dual Sound pickup! The extra flexibility puts cleaner, crisper tone choices at your control. Lighten up on the lead tone in parallel operation, then roar back in with the standard series position or use the single-coil mode along with the neck or middle pickup for chopping rhythm tones. If you crave brighter, more transparent sounds from your bridge or neck pickup without sacrificing wide, singing crunch, the Dual Sound fills the bill.

FEATURES
  • Parallel and single-coil operation with mini-switch
  • Tonal flexibility from crunchy rhythm to searing leads
  • Recommended for bridge position

Comments about DiMarzio DP101 Dual Sound Bridge Pickup:

Installed this into a mahogany Ibanez RG .. The stock infinity bridge pickup was very thin sounding compared to this one. Lots of output on the low-midrange, very "growly" . Highs are balanced and smooth. Very fat sounding but very articulate humbucker , definitely captures that 70s-80s tone.

    Very Useful Pickup

    By MS864901700

Comments about DiMarzio DP101 Dual Sound Bridge Pickup:

Very good replacement pickup. This is no boutique pickup, but you easily get more than you pay for with it. Mine is in the bridge on a cheap strat, and the world of change was apparent before I even adjusted the thing. Good, thick vintage bridge sound. F-space for strat matches string distances quite well, and I am very happy with my selection. Split-coil sounds from this pickup are legitimate strat sounds. It sounds like a vintage strat single coil with a little edge. Probably the best split-coil humbucker I've ever heard in a strat. If you are looking for an upgrade, and you need something this versatile, you won't find another pickup able to do so unless you go well above double this price. I highly recommend this pickup for guitar projects and upgrading.
Not a whole lot of features a pickup can really have. But the split-coil operation for this pickup is enough for this rating. The pickup has a great sound, despite the cheap strat it is in and the light strings used (pickup is in bridge). But when I pull the pot to split it, the sound surprisingly strat. And it is a good strat sound, too. Gives you that hot-rod strat sound, with a vintage touch.
This is an excellent pickup for upgrading any guitar within a reasonable price range. It is obviously not in the top echelon with your PAF's and high-end actives, but it is a versatile pickup with solid construction. I haven't run into any maintenance issues, nor were there any issues with installation. Easy and efficient.
You do not get pickups of this quality for a decent price from anybody. There were a handful of pickups I considered before I jumped in with this pup. But for a classic rock sound w/ coil-tapping abilities, I couldn't have made a better choice. To get the performance one does with this pickup, you could usually expect to pay close to double the price. And don't underestimate the high quality of its split-coil function.

    DiMarzio Super Distortion

    By JohnnyCrash

Comments about DiMarzio DP101 Dual Sound Bridge Pickup:

This pickup (DP101) is the same as the Super Distortion (DP100). While I prefer lower output vintage style p'ups I installed one into one of my guitars and added a switch for single coil or normal series humbucking mode. A TON of output compared to classic PAFs. A nice dark push in the low-mids. Great for hard rock or metal. Even good for Classic Rock. Single coil mode takes down the output and brightens the sound.

    My best guitar inprovement

    By Blues Man

Comments about DiMarzio DP101 Dual Sound Bridge Pickup:

For sentimental reasons, I wanted to play an old off-brand guitar (my first) and the pickup were not much to speak of. I could not throw it away so I bought the DP101. Wow, what a cool sound. It reminds me of old ZZ-Top, AC-DC sounds. It keeps the true tone as well as tons of mid-range and low crunch. I would have to say the instructions are a little vague but I figured out how to wire it for single and full Dual coil. This is good since it has such high gain, I like to play clean some and the single coil mode sounds more thin and clean. By the way notes just keep going. It does take a little effects adjustment such as EQ and gain. With the more modern music at church, I needed a better sounding distortion pickup as well as more subdued lighter sounds.

    Greatest pickup ever made

    By Jungle Jim

Comments about DiMarzio DP101 Dual Sound Bridge Pickup:

My father bought two of these killer pickups 1 year after DiMarzio went into business. They were an unheard of company, and they still beat anything I've ever heard. Todays dual sound is cleaner and better than ever. If you have to buy any pickup,BUY THIS ONE!!!

    DP101 a rockin machine

    By liquid_silver060

Comments about DiMarzio DP101 Dual Sound Bridge Pickup:

Upon ordering the Dual sound i didn't know what exactly i was looking for, i knew i wanted some bada** tones from the 70s-80s to keep my tonal palette well rounded. when i installed the pickup i was very pleased to hear the difference it made instead of my old single coil. a radical departure, i know. with the wiring set to parallel, it didn't sound weak or anemic, it had a nice transparent quality with most of its output intact, though dropping off ever so slightly. which helped when i put it back into phase posistion. it screams, and it shreds with a warm almost rounded sound that cut very well no matter what i was doing.

I bought this pickup a year ago and it has been great. I put it in my Les Paul and it made it sound like a whole new guitar. The price isn't bad ether.
