Expands the tonal range of your P Bass.

Each half of the unique, double blade DiMarzio DP127 Split P Replacement Pickup for Fender P Bass is a complete humbucker. The Split P pickup is EQd to expand the range of your bass by extending both low- and high-end response -- a great way to get a broader contemporary sound from mid-rangy, one-pickup-in-the-middle basses. The DiMarzio DP127's double-blade design adds snap for crisp attack and emphasizes cool overtones for big, smooth tone. Blade pole pieces also make the Split P very sensitive to finger and pick attack. Notes seem to ring louder, especially in the upper registers, as the pickup hears the decaying note practically down to a whisper.

Comments about DiMarzio DP127 Split P Replacement Pickup for Fender P Bass:

I have a collection of new and vintage SD Curlee medium-scale basses (my favorite basses ever). Most of them are equipped with the DiMarzio Model-P crème-colored pickups, which are a fine solution for anyone looking for that classic, warm and thumping P-pickup sound. The pickups on my vintage Curlees (1977 fretted / 1977 fretless) were over 35 years old, however, and had lost a lot of their original output volume and "oomph." As a cost-friendly means of bringing the 2 basses back up to speed, I decided to replace these pickups with DiMarzio DP127 Split P's (one set with black covers, and one set with white). Let's just say that the basses got their mojo back, and then some! The Model P's on my new Curlees have, as mentioned, exactly what you would want from a great P-pickup: low-end girth, midrange punch, and warm, smooth highs. By comparison (for context, all of my fretted Curlees are strung with D'Addario chrome flatwounds, while their fretless bros are strung with D'Addario black nylon tapewounds), the Split P's have a hotter output, darker, edgier low end, more (to my ears) low-mid emphasis, somewhat clearer highs, and an overall wider frequency response. To take nothing away from the Model P's, the Split P's are the bomb, delivering exactly as advertised! The clarity of their sound is particularly impressive, given that my basses are all strung with flatwound or tapewound strings. Also, as several other reviewers have noted, the sensitivity of the pickups is such that my CTS tone pots now suddenly seem to possess a wider tonal range (for some reason, this seems to be more so the case on my fretless bass). I am primarily a rock and blues player, and I couldn't be happier with these results, as the Split P's fit my playing style to a T. I would imagine, though, as other folks have indicated, that they would be an excellent choice for jazz, country, metal or punk bassists—they are that versatile. I recommend them without qualification!

Comments about DiMarzio DP127 Split P Replacement Pickup for Fender P Bass:

I chose DiMarzio's Split P's to go into a highly customized '76 Fender Precision bass that I hot rodded with two pairs of Seymour Duncan Quarter-Pounders in 1985. I put the Split P's in the bridge position behind the SD Quarter-Pounder in the stock Precision position. Let me just tell you that this bass totally rocked out to high heaven before, but with the installation of the Split P's it turned it into an assualt bass! In your face punchy attack like a sonic Chuck Norris. HA! They're GOOD! No. They're GREAT!!!

Comments about DiMarzio DP127 Split P Replacement Pickup for Fender P Bass:

I play in a melodic death metal band and I wanted to upgrade my practice bass so it could be on par with my show bass (an Iceman). These pickups add a growl to the bass and when the tone is turned off it becomes a very mellow and usable soft rock sound! The pickups add a lot of diversity to pick and finger style playing, I've never had pickups before where I DIDN'T have to turn down the tone a little bit to achieve a nice fingerstyle sound, these pickups immediately chill out when you use your fingers and if you do end up playing harshly with your fingers it respondes greatly. I'd recommend these pickups to anyone of any genre. And they also look sick! I placed them in a bass that has a solid black body, think about it.

          77 Precision revived

          By 265229923

          from oregon

Comments about DiMarzio DP127 Split P Replacement Pickup for Fender P Bass:

I have owned my 77' Precision since day one. I installed the cream Dimarzio PAF's in Feb 80 and have loved the sound of my bass ever since. I read all the great reviews and decided it was time, after 34 years , to replace the pickups with the DP 127 model.
WOW,,what a difference. My guitar player noticed right away the lows and the extra treble edge. My tone pot has never had such range. It will take a bit to get used to the new extra tonal qualities of my bass, but It will be time well spent enjoying getting revived by these pickups. Its as if I was 25 again and got a new bass. I recommend these to anyone looking to enhance the sound of their Precision or any other bass needing a "sound lift". I look forward to playing these pickups for the next 34 years.
Wiring was easy and the instructions were simple to follow.
The only downside is that Dimarzio should have an online warranty registration option instead of snail mail only.
Seems to have the Dimarzio quality I have come to expect.
Forthe price these pickups are worth every penny and then some.

          Fantastic Pickups

          By Endy

Comments about DiMarzio DP127 Split P Replacement Pickup for Fender P Bass:

The versatility and fidelity of these pickups appeal to many outside of the usual rock/funk circle; installation of these pickups can help broaden your tonal palette to a degree where you can comfortably play the snappiest of funk lines and the smoothest of jazz lines and everything in between, with a tone that fits the music. I would reccomend the DP127 Split P to anyone looking for a very cheap way to improve the sound of thier instrument; If they could overhall a Squier piece of junk into a bass that is completely ALIEN to the original sound, then imagine what they could do to something like an Ibanez or an actual Fender.
Contrary to the preferences of the usual DiMarzio audience, I play less 'rock and roll' and more soul and alternative music, and for P-style instruments, I prefer to play using Rotosound Jazz Bass 77 flatwounds. Paired with these pickups, I was immediately impressed by the volume of tones available on a string type noted for it's lack of treble. With the tone set high the pickups bring out a bright and creamy top end, with a lot of punch that is well suited for funk, rock, and newer metal styles. As you roll off the tone, it enters a state of sweet and classy subdued snap, with a good vibe that evokes early U2 and a lot of alternative rock bands. With the tone 0'ed, the pickups brought out a buttery smooth, tight bloom in the bottom that is perfect for jazz, soul, rap, blues and classic rock. I imagine if installed on a fretless instrument, the crystalline highs and big bottom on these would augment the purr of a fretless tone beautifully, and help boost and tighten the sometimes-lacking slap/pop tone on these instruments.
These are built like tanks, and detect everything; althugh this could be frustrating for newer players who don't know how to string mute properly, i find the improved detection and clarity offer a new range of sonic possiblities for a discerning ear; I often use drone strings, chords, apreggios and many "guitarlike" techniques, and these pickups deliver a rich tone that is as clear as a J-style pickup without the harshness that can sometimes result. And, true to the promise, they are absolutely silent; do remember though, hum can enter from other sources, and take necessary precautions.
I had these installed on the first bass I ever owned, a by-the-point-of-installation 6 year old Squier P-Bass, and a very buggy one at that. The original pickups crackled when ANY signal got through, and the tone was very honky and not at all pleasant. After some research, I invested in a set of these pickups, and my sound was IMMEDIATELY better; 80 dollars resulted in a tone that was equivalent of a bass several hundred dollars more expensive. Fantastic value for the money.

          Adds Clarity, Growl and Definition.

Comments about DiMarzio DP127 Split P Replacement Pickup for Fender P Bass:

This set adds a distinct growl in the low-midrange. There is not one untruth in the product description. So much so that I'll just refer my review to it.

I did NOT install 250k pots into my Pbass first, and thus I've had trouble with the pickup buzzing when strings are left unmuted on certain (slightly higher-gain) amp settings (using an Ampeg 100 watt combo amp). So I'd install the pots first (the instructions that come with the pickup actually says that the product will may work properly without 250k pots installed).

I installed them onto an SX Ursa a decent, low-priced bargain-bass. It DRASTICALLY improved the sound quality beyond that of any other low-to-mid-end Pbass. In addition, it added clarity and definition to each note. Every note sounds like an individual with it's very own personality. It also added a nice low, bellowing-growl to my mids and lows; stretching my lows to depths unheard of. Highly recommended mod for anybody of any genre. Especially Rock or Metal.

          Astounding performance.

Comments about DiMarzio DP127 Split P Replacement Pickup for Fender P Bass:

These were installed in a '98 American Standard. Visually, the white pickups in a white pickguard, with black blades and adjustment screws looks really snazzy. The pickups come well protected in a plastic case and foam. UPS beat up the box, but inside all was well. Word of warning: these did not come with springs for me, and my stock pickups had expansion foam on the bottoms to act as springs, so I had to snag some from another guitar (very odd choice, Fender). The pickups are "potted" with hot melt glue entirely through, and are 2 wire each, with internal wiring. Each pickup is 10k resistance (as much as both stock Fender pickups together). The instructions mention to put the pickups in series, making for 20k resistance. It's a bit high, but the sound from that is amazing. I have 250k pots, with stock ceramic cap in the bass. These do not sound like a low-midrange boomy Precision...these sound like a mildly compressed, EQ'd bass (playing through a Champ 600 wired to an EV 15" cabinet). These are extremely responsive, "punchy," and have excellent sustain. Impressive is the least to be said. They are deep, rumbling, with good midrange balance, and if the tone is left wide open, they have a very neutral, almost singing tone quality. Chording is superb, and high strings are very loud now. The string on my bass have been in use for nearly 10 years. They've been cleaned, but without breaking, I've seen no reason to replace. On the old pickups they sounded a bit dead. The new pickups almost sound like new strings were installed. Bottom line: I have not been impressed with a pickup in some time. These are all they claim to be, and much more. Do your Precision a favor, and install these. You can still get the "vintage" sound with some EQ tweaking, but these are a much more well-rounded set, and for the price...it's a win.

I bought a set of these for my Squire P. Special Edition. There is no better mod that you can make. These pickups were simple to install and worked wonders for my sound. One word of caution : turn the volume on your amp down before trying your newly installed pick-ups.
