OVERVIEW

Warm, open sound - practically noise free - even alongside humbuckers!

The DP138 Virtual Acoustic uses the same technology as the Virtual Vintage line to create a guitar pickup that's practically noise-free, even compared to humbuckers. The sound is both warm and open, reproducing the natural dynamics and tonality of steel-string guitars and enabling the Virtual Acoustic pickup to capture the character of the particular electric guitar it's mounted in. Like the Super Natural Plus, the DiMarzio Virtual Acoustic pickup installs easily with foam-insulated mounting brackets, which can be cut down in order to accommodate guitars with smaller soundholes. Twelve adjustable pole pieces allow precise string balance. It also has a volume control with a compensated tone network - to minimize tone changes when the volume is adjusted - and a 12-foot cable.

Best Acoustic Pickup Ever!

By Guitarzilla13

Comments about DiMarzio DP138 Virtual Acoustic Pickup with Volume Control:

This is the best acoustic pickup ever! I looked at this one compared to other dimarzios, fishman, and all the other acoustic pickups on the market. It's pretty basic but it's sound quality is unmatchable. All you have to do is plug it in and play! Plus, the slide volume control is extremely helpful in live conditions. Buy this one today! Whoever said an acoustic guitar can't sound good loud is wrong! You can't beat a dimarzio!

Comments about DiMarzio DP138 Virtual Acoustic Pickup with Volume Control:

I just received this yesterday and, I have given it a good workout. Superb Sound! My 12 string sounds Awesome! Really didn't have to do any adjusting of the pole pieces it sounds Great just as it is. Volume control is a nice feature and, it's just a good looking unit in general. I have some Dimarzio pickups in my American Strat and, I love em. I expected nothing less from this unit. No noise, just good clean sound. I plugged this configuration into my Fishman Loudbox Artist and, it's just pure clean powerful sound without a preamp. Get this pickup you'll love it!

Great, but...

Comments about DiMarzio DP138 Virtual Acoustic Pickup with Volume Control:

The DiMarzio DP138 Virtual Acoustic Pickup with Volume Control is at least as good if not a bit better than the vast majority of sub $100 sound hole pickups offered. It?s not bad looking, reproduces sound as well as a humbucker can, and the pole pieces are adjustable for each string?kewl. I have enjoyed mine tremendously up until we shared the stage together and it?s only flaw showed up. The volume adjustment is a sliding deal on the very bottom of the pickup, which, as I embarrassingly found out repeatedly the other night, is placed in the perfect position to adjust itself DOWN while strumming like one ought to strum a guitar. So? if you?re playing for fun, this is a killer pickup, but if you?re playing for cash, make sure the volume adjustment (if it has one) is located on the side on which ever pickup you choose.

Comments about DiMarzio DP138 Virtual Acoustic Pickup with Volume Control:

I'm using this Pickup in a GS Mini Mahogany Taylor & it has an excellent sound through my PA system. Only drawback is the Volume Control, either all on or off like most others have said but that's no big deal. If I was still playing concerts i wouldn't hesitate to use it in any of my acoustic guitars.

Comments about DiMarzio DP138 Virtual Acoustic Pickup with Volume Control:

I love the sound of my old acoustic, and when I play small venues, it's actually loud enough to hear. However, when I play larger venues, I only have the use of 1 mic, so it was either play or sing. With the Dimarzio DP138, I can plug into the sound board or use my amp, and the natural sound of the guitar comes through nice and clear.

Comments about DiMarzio DP138 Virtual Acoustic Pickup with Volume Control:

Right out of the box I got what I felt was a very tinny sound, Took a lot of adjusting with the multifilter, bass, and treble on my amp to get the sound I like. Wish there was a tone control on the pickup. But overall very pleased. Something I would recommend.

Comments about DiMarzio DP138 Virtual Acoustic Pickup with Volume Control:

I like this pickup better than others I've used, including very high end undersaddle piezo and various soundhole pickups. It's great for fingerstyle as well as flatpicking or general strumming. The volume slider is convenient, but could be accidentally changed. I saw that potential problem, and simply avoid the area. Careless players might be more apt to have a problem, but I have not.

Comments about DiMarzio DP138 Virtual Acoustic Pickup with Volume Control:

The DP-138 is one of the most versatile designs I have ever seen. Its sponge rubber-lined slotted edges ensure that it absolutely stays in place, unlike other brands that use screw clamps or adhesives. The adjustable poles make it possible to tailor this to just about any guitar whose sound hole it will fit. Note: this is not for parlor/classical guitars with small sound holes, but should fit most dreadnoughts with a standard size hole. A volume slider on the pickup is a great touch. Some users have complained that it can be accidentally moved while playing. While this can occur, I was able to train myself not to hit it while playing. In my opinion, the numerous advantages of the slide switch location outweigh the potential problems. Transferring the unit from one guitar to another is literally "a snap".
