Comments about DiMarzio DP153 Fred Humbucker Pickup:
That Ibanez got some new pickups: "FRED" at the bridge, "DP223 PAF" at the neck and the railin "Single Space, Double Coil, PAF Pro" in the center.
This was no ordinary Ibanez - it was a mint 555, made in Japan 1983. These axes went up in price! I could have sold it for 3x what I had once purchased for 83. Not after some top DiMarzio pickups and a little fancy wiring t, these long time proven pickups made me think entirely differently, maybe, I did something crazy.
I liked that guitar. We had fought 30 years of landing jets and making albums together. But so I just pulled the finish off of that body, made major improvements to the Floyd (which I love), reshaped the body, then designed, installed, and my now sell a very nice little damper for it.
Those pick-ups did more than make my guitar sound good, they created a whole new guitar!
I recommend this pickup!

Comments about DiMarzio DP153 Fred Humbucker Pickup:
These are my favorite humbucking pickups. They are good in both neck and bridge positions. You can get tones from mellow to screaming. An especially nice tone is playing them center position (both on) and out of phase. It has a really nice woody growl that's great for harmonic pinch picking.

Comments about DiMarzio DP153 Fred Humbucker Pickup:
I got an Epiphone SG Junior, the super basic model with only one humbucker and one volume and one tone knob. I loved the body, but was a bit disappointed with the sound, so I replaced the bridge to get individual intonation in a single piece and put in the Fred humbucker.
The tone is very nice now, an improvement from the slightly muddy original even if it meant a sacrifice in power. The range of sounds produced from picking variations would be worth it alone, but I also find that when chording this is much less likely to get interference between strings.
Part of the solution was from the adjustable intonation, but this pickup helped a lot.
This is the only pickup on the guitar. I could have looked for something closer to the 16 ohm beast from the original, but chose this because it seemed to have greater clarity that other powerful options based on reviews and youtube demos. It has enough power to stand alone for me with a 15W amp in a home practice setting, the sensitivity and adjust-ability makes it a pleasure to play on.
PS... I have it raised quite high at the bridge, with most magnets raised a bit towards the neck too. I think this makes it more expressive and powerful, though it is possible to go too far.

Comments about DiMarzio DP153 Fred Humbucker Pickup:
These are my favorite DiMarzio pickups. They have plenty of overdrive, a nice balanced tone, and clean up really nicely by backing off the volume a little. Two of them in your guitar with a phase switch is ideal. The out of phase tone has a great woody growl that screams with a pinched picking technique. Think Roy Buchanan. By themselves I find them equally effective in Bridge and Neck positions.

Comments about DiMarzio DP153 Fred Humbucker Pickup:
I put these FREDs in my Les Paul Double Cut style guitar and it really tightened up the low end. Cuts well through a mix with punch and clarity and keeps the highs musical. A major tonal improvement to the stock ceramic pick-ups. DiMarzio has been making these pick-ups for 23 years... and the reason is simple. They're
GRRRRRREAT!
Comments about DiMarzio DP153 Fred Humbucker Pickup:
Just finished building my new guitar using a hard pine wood. I put two Freds in it; bridge and neck position, and wired them using the "Jimmy Page Mod". The various sounds I have are unreal. The pure 100% humbucker mode is smooth and sweet with a nice overal rounded sound but with a nice crunch to it. The highs are not tinny but again, smooth and sweet and rich harmonics. It makes leads stand out quite well.
With nice rounded out Mids and Lows in any switch position, chords are well blended and not muddy. Every note stands out. The pine body gives me a mellow sustain and does not hollow the sound out at all. Mixes and works quite will with these pickups.
Being able to switch to single coil using this mod produces a nice clean, clear single coil sound. The parallel and out-of-phase sounds give me a slightly 'off' sound, but still nice. Pulls some of the power out, but adds "voice" to them.
If you want a nice well rounded pickup, this is the one to get.
As with most 4-conductor pickups, it allows ways to achieve various sounds.
It's a DiMarzio, what more to say.
Very well priced for a good quality product.
Comments about DiMarzio DP153 Fred Humbucker Pickup:
Bought one for my Les Paul and another for my Ibanez, and I'll never use another pickup in any guitar I own.Cleans: Nice and chime-y, no flat or lifeless clunking, with enough output to sound powerful.Low to Mid Gain: Very lively and responsive, doesn't have that flat, lifeless sound Humbuckers get at low gain levels.Mid to High Gain: This is where this p/u is designed to be. Clear, crisp, with good balance of highs and mids, with a well controled low-end. Unlike most humbuckers (and like DiMarzio's site says) this pickup DOES brighten up as you put it through more gain. No fattening (like a PAF) hereHigh to Extreme Gain: Haven't really experimented with this much, except for one or two solos. It produced easily controllable feedback, nice harmonics and an almost plays-itself feel.Works well with all tunings (even down to Drop B)Overall, the best all around pickup going.
