OVERVIEW

The most dramatic tone curve of the Modern Classic humbuckers.

The vowel-like open wah-wah feel of the PAF Pro and FRED is combined with tremendous midrange and bass for a sound that really kicks hard. Because the lows, mids, and highs are all boosted, using a Tone Zone feels like cranking up an extra set of tone controls. It adds further dimension to the sound of your amp - that elusive edge that can make a good-sounding rig into a great-sounding one. Notes seem to get bigger after they're picked, and burn hard as they sustain. It's the right stuff to wake up your amp. Ballsy, aggressive tone has plenty of drive in all the right frequencies, abundant gain to push preamps and power amps, and sensitivity to pick attack that gets the most out of any style from metal to blues. Hot enough to qualify as a high-output pickup but with a wider dynamic range. Hard picking will produce a lot of power and softer picking will be much cleaner and quieter.

Quite an upgrade from the previous pickups installed, EMG 81s. By comparison the EMGs sound like a hissy static noise.

This is exactly what I'm looking for as metal player that dabbles in rock and softer tones from time to time. You'd be very hard pressed to find a better pick up for any genre of music that requires an electric guitar.

Great response, very chunky and meaty but still crystal clear. Capable of any tone you want to throw at it.

Easy 5/5, highly recommended.

I have an Ibanez L.P. body style. It always sounded thin and shril. I tried several different pick ups until I tried the Tone zone. This is what my light body Les Paul copy needed to warm it up. I've not even thought about changing it ou i years. Note: every pickup will behave differently in different guitar bodies.

Wow

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

If you want a warm , chunky, responsive, and full bodied pickup, definitely check out a tone zone.
I bought two of these, one for each of my new Ibanez RG1420F prestige guitars for the bridge position. The stock Ibanez V6F's were pretty nice, but this pickup is just so full bodied and harmonically rich through my Soldano SLO. My other Ibanez signature models (Jems, PGM) already have Dimarzios installed, (evolutions, breeds, and PAF pros- which are just awesome pickups) but this was my first taste of the tone zone, and I'm extremely happy with the sound. Just a very full, warm, and harmonically rich pickup. Highly recommended, and lives up to the hype and reputation it gets.
It's Dimarzio.
All pickups these days are pricey, the price on this isn't bad at all.

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

This is my third TZ purchase from MF. This pickup now is in all three of my Gibson guitars. I've read that it could be muddy in an LP. I COMPLETELY disagree! I just installed one in my 95'LP Standard, and I couldn't be happier. The stock Gibson 498t in my opinion was always an excellent pickup, but over the years it seemed to lose some 'umph'.

I wanted to replace the pickup with another 498t, but aside from cost, I couldn't get the cosmetic option I needed, so I looked for other pickups that utilized the same Alnico V magnet that the 498t did. I had already installed TZs in my other two Gibson Vs, and was exceedingly satisfied.

As I mentioned, I initially read that the TZ in an LP could be muddy so I strayed from this idea. After reading positive Dimarzio Super Distortion reviews I thought I would give it a shot. I had the SD in my LP for roughly 3 mos. Although it sounded 'decent', it just didn't have that Gibson vibe anymore that I was use to. I felt it was to cold and clear. I made NUMEROUS adjustments to the pickup in a vain attempt to get it to sound good, and it just never happened.

I then read on here from ONE reviewer who said he thought the TZ in his LP was oustanding, and not at all muddy. Shortly after learning that Dimarzio was now making this pickup in the color I needed, I went for it and bought one last week from Musician's Friend.

I just installed the pickup approx. two hours ago and I couldn't be any happier! It sounds KILLER. Just like my 498t use to, but even bigger in the lower frequencies, yet still exuding excellent balance. I just love how much more 'crunchy'it is then the Super Distortion p/u, yet just as clear and articulate. In addition I just ajdusted the height once..and it was was perfect!

This is a GREAT Dimarzio product, maybe one of their best pickups, and MF has a great sale on them right now.

      Great pickup!

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

I tried this pickup in the bridge position of my friend's RG320QM. The guitar has a basswood body, a quilted maple top, and a LO-TRS tremolo, and a DiMarzio Air Norton in the neck position. In this guitar, the Tone Zone rocks! The Tone Zone and Air Norton combination is quite possibly the best pickup combination that I have ever heard. These two pickups sound great with a basswood/maple guitar. I imagine that without the maple brightening the tone then the guitar would sound better. The Tone Zone has a very punchy sound, it makes open chords, suspended chords, and especially 5 add 9 chords sound very clear, articulate, and huge. It's also great for shredding, you can hear every note just fine, and the notes have a lot of definition and punch, and the notes are not too harsh; no need to switch to the neck pickup. The Tone Zone is also very versatile. I mostly play Christian Praise and Worship, Metal, Rock, and some Blues; and these pickups cover every genre mentioned very well. Also, if any Metalheads are reading, this pickup has more than enough gain to cover any type of Metal. One could call this pickup "A jack of all trades, master of most." If I ever get a basswood RG with a tremolo, then this pickup will definitely be my first choice for a pickup swap. Thanks Dimarzio for a great sounding, versatile pickup. To everyone reading, Jesus loves you!

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

The Tone Zone has a sound that is much thicker than other humbuckers I have experimented with. The equalization places emphasis on the mids and lows while the highs are pulled back. This equates for an underlying tone that has chunk as well as punch. With the midrange enhanced, there is also a sharp edge to the sound at the same time the roundness of the low tone is heard. This makes for a very complex and large sound when used with distortion--so toneful, powerful, and musical. It is both modern and vintage sounding at the same time depending on your amp settings.

I have used the Tone Zone in all 3 Stratocaster positions (I have special pickguards made) and have used it in both neck and bridge positions of Gibson SGs. In the bridge position, chords are thick and have edge. High note solos are fat without a hint of thin buzzing. In the middle position, it has a sound similar to Van Halen's 'brown sound'. In the neck, it can prove to be powerful and somewhat boomy--however, if you use your neck pickup for leads, your sound with the Tone Zone will be round and fluid with very little edge--very smooth with distortion. I find that the SGs produce different sounds with the Tone Zone in that the bridge position can sound open and tight while the neck position is round --can be muddy if your amp settings are not set with enough treble.

To sum up this review, think of the Tone Zone as a passive pickup that has the boosted power, round vintage quality, and extended equalization to make your sound larger than any other pickup I have experienced to date.

I play professionally and have reviewed and used the Dimarzio Super 3 previously --and I love that pickup when I play strictly heavy metal, but the Tone Zone by Dimarzio is really a pickup that fits into almost any musical situation.

This pickup is exactly what it is claimed to be and more. It is alive and incredibly responsive to both the pick attack and volume settings. No muddiness or "motor boat" bottom end clutter. Even when using high gain amps there is no micro-phonic feedback common to other pickup brands.

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

This is the second Tone Zone that I have purchased & the reason is simple: The tones from my Fat Strat humbucker were much too bright. I needed a pickup to tame the high end. Even though the strat has a rosewood board, the Atomic humbucker was still over the top (top end that is ;)....Fender is not exactly known for their humbuckers and I don't care for the Atomics at all.

Anyway, this thing keeps the guitar clearly in the mids & upper mids and remains articulate when you pile on the gain. I highly recommend it for the application of taming an overly bright guitar.

Having said that, I suggest you stay away if you already have plenty of warmth in your guitar's tone. It might work well, but you may find that you go too much the other way and end up wanting to brighten it back up some more. Save this pickup for a guitar that has too much treble.

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

Very happy with this pickup. I put it in my Dean ML-X bridge position, since the stock PU was very wimpy, and am now getting great classic rock and blues tones out of it. Like a lot of people I think it is not a great pickup for extreme metal, but good for nearly everything else. I experienced no muddy tonal problems as reported by a few reviewers. This pickup is extremely responsive to pick attack and volume knob adjustment. I can go from lightly distorted blues tone a la SRV to full-on AC/DC without touching my amp. Proper set up height is important - I found that a hair more than 1/8 inch to be about right for me. Superb pickup for the nuanced rock or blues player.

I bought this for the bridge of my Ibanez S420 as a replacement for the stock INF pickup. Works as an excellent bridge pickup (my S stays in C Standard) keeping clarity at high gain, in low tunings. Pinch harmonics are a breeze, and the install is simple.

I like a pick up with a little more out put and less bass. Overall, great pick up.
Great pick up. I am able to get 70's tone, 80's shred, blues, modern day shred tones with this pick up. Great harmonics and I love the way it makes the lower strings sound like a fat strat. Respondes very well to your picking. Cleanes up very well also.

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

This review may seem glowing, but I do not know how else to review it. I've been replacing pickups in my two Gibson Flying Vs. One V I replaced the stock Gibson ceramics with the Seymour Duncan JB-4, and the neck pickup with the Seymour Duncan 59' Jazz. Overall a nice upgrade from the ceramics..especially if you are looking for a warmer, more vintage tone..

However, the other V saw me replacing the Gibson 498t bride pickup with this Dimarzio DP-155 'Tone Zone' bridge pickup. The difference is astounding. I would have to say that this new Dimarzio pickup is one of the BEST bridge pickups I have ever heard. Its overall tone quality is FAR greater then the SD JB-4 exuding clearer, warmer and seemingly hotter tones. The JB4 saw me adjusting the pickup height and pole pieces to find a good compromise. But this Tone Zone pickup sounded awesome right out of the box with virtually no adjustments required. I even liked this pickup more then Gibson's 498t which in itself is great sounding, well balanced pickup.

I will be returning the JB4 in my one V and replacing it with this new Dimarzio pickup. I strongly recommend this pickup if you like that hot rodded Gibson/Marshall tone..the kind of tone that has permeated some of the greatest hard rock/metal tones of the past!

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

The Tonezone is one of my favourite pickups. It has a certain rawness to it. The mids are accentuated and if your guitar has some weight behind it the tone is killer! I have it paired with an Air Norton in my Sterling AX 40.

I was looking for a vintage looking replacement pickup that would be similar to my standerd goto pickups, the Invader and Hot Rails. I found it in the TONE ZONE. It has that vowel like quality I like with a bit more presence than the Invader. It works well with the Hot Rail in the neck.

my opinion of dimarzio and having read the reveiws prior to purchase have to say, when musicians are putting these pickups in gibson les pauls and raving about it, I was sold. Brought new life to my guitar.
get f spacing for the rear as the strings are wider so I just learned something new, but about this pickup which I paired up w/ the fresh air norton 193 in the neck. I now have a brand new schecter c1+,screams,awesome.

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

The tonal balance is really amazing. The dynamic range is outstanding and when you dig in on solos the pickup really excels, this is where it truly speaks. Cuts through without falling apart into harshness. The compression curve as you play harder is just perfect. I actually thought it would be too thick based on reviews I'd read but the heavier lows and mids shown on the website translate more to presence and the pickup shows no signs of ever loading up. I've long time been a fan of the Super Distortion and still am as well as the AT-1 Andy Timmons for bridge pickups but the Tone Zone has edged its way into 1st place favorite for me. All three are pretty much "can't go wrong" bridge pickups, but man the Tone Zone is the most expressive pickup I've ever played through .... awesome !
Dimarzio's quality is, as always, flawless
They are the only pickup company I've use to replaced my OEM gear for over 20 years.

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

I put this pickup in my brighter les paul. It did the exactly what everything I read. It was a very warm heavy tone. The issue I had though it was way to hot. I found myself constantly trying to pull back my gain weather it was on the amp or peddles. Eventually it got to be to much and I found my tone a little on the muddy side. If your looking for a hot pickup with a bigger darker sound this pickup will work fine. But if you play different styles of music that isn't punk hard rock or metal this pickup is to much.

I replaced the basic pickups that came in my ibanez s570 with the Tone Zone and what an amazing difference. The power chord lows are crisp and clear. It is a much brighter pickup so there is a bit of an adjustment on the amp settings, namely easin up on the treble. The volume is also way better. Worth the money. I now have a prestige sounding axe. Loud. Crisp. Clean and smokin!

I read the review that one gentleman wrote saying this PU went from mud to puddle! I ordered it anyway! When I first got it installed I was disappointed and remained there for several days! Then I started messing w/ PU height! THIS really ended up being the solution! She sounds GREAT like all my other Dimarzio's do now! Ibanez puts these in their high end guitars and Dimarzio just doesn't make a bad PU! If it doesn't sound good at first, experiment! Also, a great PU cannot correct tone robbing intonation issues! Make sure you've done YOUR part BEFORE blaming the PU is what I've come to find! VERY HAPPY is the end result for me! Pick harmonics & harmonics just jump out, notes sing and sustain is awesome! Ultimately I'm sure that's what we all want for our hard earned money these days! Hook one up properly and you WILL NOT be disappointed!!

I was inspired to build my own frankenstein after Eddie VHs one. As I I completed the painting and all other things to be done I decided to try another pick up other then what was implanted in EVHs one. I decided the Tone Zone was my pick. this Pick up is extreme and not for the players who don't play lead. I was surprise at the sound and power and how it responded to your picking. it is clean and there is a certain sound in it I've never heard in any humbucker. the mids and bass totally kick A and it drives a sound in your amp like no other. get this pick up and be enthralled! I'm not much of a humbucker player, but his will have you swap in a second. Try it or surrender to a certain punishmment called "Without"

This pickup came stock in my custom Fender Telecaster in the bridge position. Overall, I am very happy with this humbucker. It have very fat lows and mids so it is perfect for solos and lead work. The only drawback is it does not sound that good when played clean. This is a perfect humbucker for distortion though.
