DiMarzio

The result of years of research for a very demanding player: Steve Vai.

The DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup is a hefty humbucker designed for maximum impact and power. The Evolution pickup's sound is tight, aggressive, and loud. The DP159 Evolution incorporates DiMarzio's patented dual-resonance coil configuration that senses more harmonic overtones than ordinary humbuckers. Perfect for solos that really cut through. Low notes are very tight, and the highs have a lot of presence. DiMarzio designed the DP159 pickup for Steve's Ibanez Jems, but it can add a lot of punch and definition to Les Paul and similar set-neck guitars -- even the lowest bass notes really jump out of the amp, and feedback occurs easily with a wide range of harmonic overtones.

Features

All subtle and arcane guitar talk aside, the major determinate of your tone is your pickup. Go for this one and you'll see what we mean. Put it in the cart.

DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup Specifications:

  • Dual-resonance coil configuration
  • Standard 4-conductor wiring
  • Ceramic magnet
  • 404mV output
  • 13.84K DC resistance

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

I replaced my stock pickups in my main Ibanez with the Evo bridge and neck pickups and it is louder! Improved overall sound quality and tones I get out of it. Very versatile in playing styles, it's very crisp and clear, every little mistake can be heard with these. I definitely recommend them, gonna order another set later this month for my back up Ibanez.

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

This pickups makes your guitar scream if you know how to play with it ;) It makes harmonics really pop out and adds snarl to your leads. Note that this pickup isnt the best for headbanging death metal riffing, it lacks some bottom end, but this pickup wasnt built for that purpose in mind. Overall its an excellent lead pickup.

        Great Rythm Pickups

        By Corey Conard

        from tennessee

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

These pickups are amazing, but they were not what i expected. I was expecting a super hot pick lead pickup with the Evolution, so i placed a Liquifire in the neck and it is the best lead pickup their is. The evolution is an outstanding rythm pickup with really good finger tapping abilities. If your looking for a sharp lead pickup. DO NOT GET EVOLUTION!

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

i have one of these installed in my old js series Jackson dinky, in the neck position. you can't get a whole ton of low end chunk with this pickup, but there's enough to make it a good rhythm pickup. leads sound awesome with this pickup too, good harmonics and very high output. overall an awesome pickup

        Fire Breathers

        By Cole Bourquin

        from Nevada

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

Some of the reviews on the evolution pickups are completely misleading, but make no mistake these pickups were designed with the LEAD guitar player in mind. They are extremely loud and articulate. Great harmonics. Everytime I get a new pick up, I plug my axe into the crappiest amp I have and see if they sing and the evolution pick ups deliver. I dropped the evolution set into my Ibanez prestige and they are second to none, but let me shine some light for all you heavy metal monsters. These ARE NOT ideal for drop c heavy metal chugging. They have way too much high end sizzle, so if you only play the heaviest of metal, you've been warned. If your down with the buttery shrediest pickups around, GET SOME.

Better 2nd time around with 250k volume potentiometer

        By Brian

        from Palmerton, PA

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

Installed Evolution in my Warmoth Strat basswood body, maple neck. replaced it with a MoJoe becase I liked it in my other guitar but not so much in this one. Went back to the Evolution but with a 250Kohm volume potentiometer. Turned out to have the tone I was looking for, dare I say brown sound. If you find it to be too bright with a 500k pot., a 250k will warm it up.

        Dimarzio Evolution

        By Anonymous

        from Undisclosed

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

This is a totally great pickup. I just got it installed in my LTD EC-100QM lefty and it sounds 100x better than it did. I can get almost instant feedback if I want, and hold it for minutes on end. It really adds to the sustain of the guitar, and makes artificial harmonics really easy to do and natural harmonics scream! It makes the guitar sound very good in high distortion situations; it can get really distorted but never muddy at all! I highly recommend this pickup if you like to play fast, clean runs with maximum distortion or not.

        BUY THE HYPE

        By William Ashland

        from Sacramento, CA

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

Just installed this in my RG 320DX (replaced the Tone Zone in the bridge) and oh boy am I happy. The first thing I noticed was the harmonics. Pinch harmonics are as easy as ever to achieve with this baby installed, even with my gain set at 1/2 (I play through an Orange head and 2x12-not a high gain amp.) It also has great articulation of the notes, and the clean sound is awesome too! Lots of treble but really strong bass as well, great all around pickup. I can only imagine how face-rippingly awesome it would be through something like a 5150, Engl, VHT, etc. It does depend on the player to bring out the best in it - the pickups shape the tone, the player makes the tone.

        DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Humbucker

        By Van Damne

        from Undisclosed

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

I installed the DiMarzio Evolution bridge pickup into a Strat with a basswood body & a maple neck/rosewood fingerboard. This pickup is on the hot side, but is not the hottest pickup I've heard by any means. It has a great harmonic structure; pinched harmonics squeal with ease and natural harmonics sustain and ring out for days on end. If you play hard rock and Steve Vai style stuff, then this would be a pickup to carefully consider. However, if you play metal, this is not the pickup for you. Once you downtune past Eb standard with this pickup, the tightness that was there during your standard tuning disappears without a trace. This pickup is on the thin side to begin with, and is not apt for palm muting. So to recap: tight, aggressive humbucker with great harmonics and apt for Hard Rock and Steve Vai stuff, not so great for much else.

        great pickup!

        By CS93

        from Monticello, GA

Comments about DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup:

just put mine in a schecter omen 6 yesterday. so far i'm very pleased w/ this pup as well as the neck evo pup. these pickups are loud. the bring out the natural sound of the guitar whether overdriven or clean. the bridge pup has snappy tones when on clean and when blended together they sound almost like a strat bridge single coil pup. i plan to buy another pair of these and put them in my lespaul. the one thing i don't like is that the instructions on installation aren't very clear so be sure you know what you're doing. great job dimarzio and steve vai!
