I installed a set of Breed pups into my B. C. Rich Mockingbird ST with a maple neck thru body design and Floyd Rose trem. They replaced the trebly Duncan Design H103s that were stock on this guitar. I was looking for hot, AlNiCo V pickup that would mellow out the highs and boost the mids and bass to cut through the mix. This pickup does that perfectly with this guitar. I am not a fan of ceramic magnets. The sound too compressed and narrow to me. I find that AlNiCo V magnets are more open and organic sounding and seem to have a more complex harmonic quality.

This pickup sounds incredible in the right instrument. Upon playing on these pickups for a couple of weeks, I think I know where Via was going when he requested this design... This pickup is designed to give a Strat or Super Strat (alder/ash/poplar) body with Floyd Rose tremolo a more of a Les Paul type of tone. If that is what you are searching for, this is THE pickup for that objective. Soulful tone full of harmonics and sustain. Takes the harsh, trebly bite that is inherent in Strat style guitars with tremolos and maple necks.
F-spaced dual coil humbucker in black with chrome hex screw poles, 4 conductor wiring and AlNiCo V magnets.
Arrived in perfect condition. It's a pickup. Consequently, if it is installed correctly, it should provide decades of trouble free performance.
It's the hottest AlNiCo V pickup that I could find and they sound better than SD pickups IMO.

Almost bought the super distortion but got this instead. Was kind of hesitant because of the lower output, but this PU has bite. The notes are very fat & articulate which makes the PU sound clean, but the touch sensitivity combined with the fat mids gives this PU some growl. Hit a note & let it sustain & you can hear the higher order harmonics ring through, almost sounds like feedback. Compared it to my other strat with a Burstbucker Pro Lead & it has the same growl but the notes sound alittle fatter but very articulate. This PU accentuates the lower mid freq more then the Burstbucker which gives it a little fatter tone. It has plenty of highs but not too much & not ice picky. Very surprised & satisfied. Like the other review said as being a great PU for a strat.

When the bridge pickup went out on my JS100, I wanted a serious upgrade. My choice came down to the Fred, Mo' Joe & the Breed. Ended up on the Breed and I am very happy. Now, I *must* get the Breed neck pickup to finish the upgrade - it is so much better than the stock pickups.The clarity of the Breed blew me away. The first strum showed what a drastic upgrade this pickup was. Rather than switch to the neck pickup, I'll trim down the tone; it is so much better than the stock pickups.If there are negatives, it's that it puts out a lot of highs, and the single-coil tapping is quiet. This is the first pickup I've had that I actually use the tone knob. Usually a guitar can't get bright enough for me, not any more.To fix both of my issues, I adjusted the posts on the pickups. The pickup that's live while in single-coil mode I raised, and slightly lowered the posts on the second pickup. I raised the posts for the low strings more than the high strings to even out the tone. doing this gives a really interesting sound - The highs are balanced, the single-coil is louder, and when in dual-coil, it keeps some of that single-coil quack.Overall I am thrilled. I still use the tone knob, and like the experimentation. Now, unfortunately, I need to start upgrading all those other guitars. :)

I bought the Breeds because I had the DiMarzio Blaze pups on my 7-string and love them. Near as I could find the Breed was the 6-string equivalent to the Blaze. The Breeds aren't quite as hot as the Blaze, they are more rounded and smoother though. I definitely prefer passive pick ups to active ones and the Breeds are some of the best imo.

I got this as the second upgrade for an Epiphone Les Paul. I had replaced the stock pickups with a Super Distortion in the Bridge and a Breed in the neck. While the Super Distortion is very good, I was never quite happy with the tone I got from it. This pickup is a much better match for me. It is much more clear and defined than the Super Distortion, I love the difference it makes-particularly with a high-gain amp. It's alot like a super-charged PAF or 498T.Overall, I couldn't be happier than I am with the Breed in both the neck and bridge positions. This one works extremely well with Les Paul's.

I replaced the stock Duncan Designed bridge pickup in my Jackson DX10D and I definitely noticed improvement. No more shrill notes and a lot less extra noise with more output. Harmonics are also easier to find. It cleans up quick if you turn the volume down on a high gain setting as well.

I originally got this pickup when it was installed in my Ibanez Jem. I Fell in love with it immediately. Nice cleans, and probably the warmest, smoothest high gain I've ever had in a pickup. You literally can't hit a note that's too ear-piercingly trebly with this pickup. It's such a smooth high gain sound, I actually got both the neck & bridge for my other Ibanez as well. If you're looking for something with ultra high gain or a serious cutting tone, this isn't it. It's just warm, smooth & balanced, but it works with high gain amps very well. Plus it can be coil tapped as well. Very much recommend.

Buy this if you have a strat! It has plenty of midrange to thicken up the tone of it! It has really great clarity and is extremely versatile too. I am very pleased with this product.

This is a definite upgrade for my strat. It gives a warmer tone similar to a les paul. It gives great midrange to thicken up the tone of a strat. It has a good amount of output and is very clear and not muddy. It is very versatile. Buy it if you own a strat with a humbucker!

I got this pickup for my Dean ML to get some more output and beef up the tone like the Dimarzio website describes, but it did the opposite. I got better output, but through my tube halfstack even my bandmates described that it made my guitar sound like I was playing through a tin can. This pickup is supposed to make 25.5 inch scale strat style guitars sound fatter, but made my guitar sound like a strat. But thanks to Dimarzio's return policy I can exchange it for another pickupI still think that this is a decent pickup, good output and a mid heavy tone that had some spank. It also was very expressive, like a high power humbucker with single coil characteristics.
