Thickens your single-coil tone.

The Chopper adds more grunt to the concept of the Fast Track 1. Louder, with more heft in the mids and low-end, it still maintains the kick and high end of true single coils. It shares the same side-by-side coils and twin-blade construction as the Fast Track1 as well as no misaligned poles or string-pull problems. The Chopper works hard as a strong bridge pickup to pump your amp's front-end. Add a pair of Fast Track 1s in the neck and middle for a very large, beefy 3X single-coil sound (See recommended accessories box on this page).

chopper to the rescue

By keith hilsinger

from new york

Comments about DiMarzio DP184 Chopper Pickup:

this
Needed to replace the worn out noisy and old I might add , single coil dimarzio in the bridge of my Strat Plus. It was so noisy I had to stand in certain spots to keep the hum at low levels. I had purchased another Chopper to put in the bridge of my Tele and loved that one, so what logical replacement for the Strat could there be. I didn't want too much output , needed to be close to existing Lace Sensors in Strat Plus mid and neck positions. This pick-up is perfect . Adds the punch (noisless ) that I was looking for and a good price on top of all that !

Chopper review

By Cameron-KOtTn

from SLC, UT

Comments about DiMarzio DP184 Chopper Pickup:

Sounds OK in the middle position. Nothing too special in my opinion. It is, however, the first pickup I've used to blend with either my JB Bridge or Jazz neck pickups. Combined with either of these two and the pickup really shines. Usually a mix of pickups sounds bleh to me. This pickup, combined with the before mentioned, sounds very clear and really compliments.
Good price for added tone

Screams loud

By 39750062

Comments about DiMarzio DP184 Chopper Pickup:

This pickup was everything I wanted as far as a bridge position goes. I upgraded my Hamer CXQ4 from stock to a DiMarzio Cruiser, Fast track, and a chopper (neck, middle, Bridge). These pickups work so well together-- it has given me a wide range of sounds that makes my guitar very versatile When I kick on the distortion I do not get any hum, pops, or noise.
Even when this coil is tapped and running a single it's still the most powerful thing in the room.

Electric Storm Guitarist/Vocalist/Composer

By Raymond Allen Jr.

from Cottageville, SC

Comments about DiMarzio DP184 Chopper Pickup:

I put this pickup in the middle between a fast track 1 and 2 and gives my Squier Strat a really big, loud, clear, bright, and warm punch that works great in Heavy Metal. I recommend it to anyone that is either a guitar player in a band or a solo guitarist.

Depends on your style

By TooManyStrats

Comments about DiMarzio DP184 Chopper Pickup:

I installed two of these in my alder body Stratocaster in the neck and middle position with a Super Distortion S in the bridge. They matched nicely and the middle pickup was perfect for clean and high gain. I found that in the neck position the Chopper sounded fantastic clean, very good dirty but somewhat muddy with high gain, overdrive or distortion. So, as with any pickup, it would depend on your style of play. If you use the overdrive or high gain alot, you may want to consider another pickup in the neck. I installed a Heavy Blues 2 pickup in the neck and it was perfect for my style and sound and it also matched well with the Super Distortion S.

WOW

By TooManyStrats

Comments about DiMarzio DP184 Chopper Pickup:

I had a custom made loaded pickguard made (by Aamps Guitar Store) with 2 Choppers (neck/middle) and 1 Super Distortion S (bridge) and now I have a serious problem......I don't want to play my other strats anymore! The Chopper sounds great for blues or rock. Fantastic tone in any set up. Don't hesitate, go Dimarzio today!

Surprisingly nice strack neck pickup

By gdunlap

from San Diego

Comments about DiMarzio DP184 Chopper Pickup:

I replaced the Lace Sensor Gold pickup I had in the neck position of my HSS MIM Strat with this, and was actually surprised by how good it sounds. With distortion/overdrive it can be nice and brutal in the neck position, but run clean into an amp with decent headroom it does really nice clean tones too. The tone is actually not far off from the Lace Sensor, just hotter and with a "fuller" humbucking sound, though maybe not quite as thick-sounding as a full-size 'bucker would have been. It still sounds like a Strat, just a "Hot" one. I installed a coil split via a push-pull tone control pot, and when split I swear it sounds just the same as the original Lace Sensor! I consider that a good thing - it means that you can get both a nice "vintage" strat tone and a brutal metal sound with the same pickup - like having your cake and eating it too.Unsplit, the bass in the neck position can be a bit "flabby" when distorted and run through a cheap amp/speakers; I had that problem when run though my Champ 600 reissue, but after replacing the crappy Chinese speaker (known to get flabby when driven) with a nice Ted Weber it sounds nice and clear. My Strat's other pickups are a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge position and a Pro Track in the middle; the Chopper balances them out nicely.

Good but...

By Rocket

from Puerto Rico

Comments about DiMarzio DP184 Chopper Pickup:

This pickup is good but for second guitar. I like it alot when power chords but when I go into a solo the High E string does not have much sustain. If you want a shredding guitar I recommend SD Hot Rail they have much more sustain than this one. Overall I recommend this from Melow to Classic Rock guitarist.

Nice sound for a rail pickup...

By MrBig951

from Riverside, CA

Comments about DiMarzio DP184 Chopper Pickup:

I have this in an HM Strat and in Ibanez RG in neck and middle positions. It's a solid little pickup with good sounds and MUCH stronger, beefier and quieter then the wimpy/noisy single coils they replaced. A good choice and nice replacement option for your stock single coils.

A Strat Bridge with More Testosterone

By Karl Withakay

from Chico, CA

Comments about DiMarzio DP184 Chopper Pickup:

No, it does not sound like the stock Strat single coils that my guitar came with. But it does lack the annoying buzz and retains enough of the quack to remain consistent with my Strat sound preference. This pickup (I have it in the bridge position) strengthens my signal, adding more midrange tone (great for more overdriven or distorted playing). Gritty when played clean, but better than the single coils which I've never played clean from the bridge anyway.
