I've had this pickup for over a year, so I didn't just put it in yesterday and now i'm raving about it. What it sounds like (In Neck position): It's crystal clear, notes sing out forever, it's part of the "air" series that has a special magnet that reduces string pull and allows for longer sustain, which is absolutely wonderful. It sounds fat, very vowel-like. The cool thing about it is that it's very dark sounding, but has an amazing clarity. Harmonics scream, and every note picked is very present and has great dynamics. It's almost like having a second bridge pickup, it has that sort of clarity, but with that neck pickup smooth tone. If you are experiencing noise with this pickup, YOU goofed the wiring, or you don't know how to control your rig properly. If you don't have this pickup set high enough near the strings, you probably will have a "dark muddy" tone, like any pickup would too far from the strings.I gave it a 10 on all the ratings, because it has all the features a humbucker can have, top notch quality, an excellent value, and a great sounding pickup. It will be legendary one day, it's that good, at least to my ears.

Good tone, but noisy
I put this in the bridge position on a Gibson flying V. Tone sounds good, but too much hum.

Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:
Great pup for the neck position!
Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:
This pickup is quite unique. It has a sort of glassy, almost single coil like chirp, yet all of the warm sustain and fluid response you could ever want. It is wild yet refined, and just sings under high gain, and is very full bodied and warm clean. I'm extremely pleased.
I have this in the neck position on two of my Ibanez RG prestige guitars. All I can say is "sweet, glassy, toneful, singing." Just amazing through my Soldano SLO. I have these paired with a tone zone in the bridge, and it is an amazing match.
Dimarzio is top notch

I have this in the neck position of my Sterling AX 40 and it sounds great. Its paired with a Tone Zone in the bridge position.
Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:
I just installed this guy in my Gibson Les Paul in the Neck Position, and its the best neck pickup I have ever used. It is a great Combo with the Tone Zone and (which is a great middle pickup in my LP) and the Super Distortion (in the bridge of my LP). I recommend this to anybody out there looking for a great neck pickup.
Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:
I recently got one of these for the neck position of my PRS Singlecut along with a D-Sonic in the bridge (yes, I'm a Petrucci tone fan) and I was floored by the quality of the sound. Brilliantly clean for fast passages, with thick sustain for those slowhand moments. It's also wired for coil tap, and it creates this brilliant bright tone when split, excellent for clean parts. They're essentially giving these things away at that price - if you want a change in clarity and sustain without a big change in your tone you worked so hard for, go with the Air Norton, for sure.
Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:
I love this pick up! I tried it both in the neck & bridge. Here's my take: In the bridge it was pretty good, I just need a little more mid & treb for 1 of my bands so I ended up going with a tone zone. In the neck, this to me is the best sounding neck pickup I heard outside of Yngwie's neck pickup sound. It tracks well and has a great attack to it. Very big sounding and the clean is really nice too. I haven't wired it for split coils so I can't give an opinion on that, but I think my next guitar I get I will wire it for that. Anyways, I use this in both a guitar in standard and 1 tuned down to B and it sounds great in both. As far as the guy who said not to use it with a floyd, I don't know why. Maybe he needs an Fspaced one. Both guitars I have this in are old (1 87 & 1 89) Ibanez RGs. I haven't had any issue with these and the trem.
Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:
I have the Air Norton in the neck position of my 1974 Gibson Flying V and it is the coolest sounding clean tone I've ever heard. I also have a Andy Timmons in the bridge position and they really work well together. In the middle switch position, the AT adds a bit of sparkle to the AN. The AT is cool clean too but with the distortion channel on..................pure smoke. I have a Kahler trem and both pickups are great with it,(they are F spaced), so I don't know what the other reviewer was talking about. Buy one!!!!
Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:
I dropped this thing in the neck of my Jackson King V with a Dimebucker in the bridge and when both pickups are on all bets are off. The Air Norton has a low end, but its crisp and warm. It is pure power.
Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:
I had a Dimarzio PAF Pro in the neck position of my alder American Stratocaster HH but I found it sounded a bit muddy and just kind of lifeless (Perhaps better suited for a Gibson?). After reading some reviews and watching some demos I decided to try the Air Norton. It's simply fantastic. It's crisp and clear, the bass is not too muddy and the treble is sweet and smooth. Of course pickup choices are a matter of taste, but this pickup sounds great with or without overdrive and for everything from blues to metal. I have a Super Distortion in the bridge position and it makes a versatile combo. Perfect for the neck position of an alder Strat.
Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:
Well, I have to say that it's not a good idea to install this pickup in the neck position for a Floyd Rose guitar. I installed this on my Ibanez RG Prestige together with a Super Distortion in the bridge and a Fast Track 1 in the middle. It has no balance and lacks of precense and response. But this doesn't mean this is a bad pickup.Try the Air Norton on a stop tail guitar and right after that you will notice that this is the right neck pickup for that kind of axe. I installed this on a LTD stop tail with a Tone Zone in the bridge and the combination was just perfect.I recommend use this pickup on mahogany guitars with stop tail bridge like Les Pauls. Mahogany made and neckthru guitars improve their performance.
