OVERVIEW

Supercharge that old axe with this unique pickup.

The DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup is the neck pickup that breaks all the rules. It's fat and warm, yet not muddy. It's hot, but not distorted. It's even got cool harmonics. The patent-applied-for magnetic structure reduces string-pull, so sustain is improved, and pick attack and dynamics are tremendously controllable and expressive. Combine the Air Norton pickup with a DiMarzio Tone Zone in the bridge position for a perfect blend of power and tone. DP193 pickups are recommended for solidbody and semi-hollowbody guitars.

When the Air Norton is in the neck position, it's a warm, open-sounding pickup with enough power to balance with all bridge humbuckers. Try the DiMarzio DP193 with 500K pots for maximum treble and harmonic presence. In the bridge position, the sound is medium output with solid lows and biting harmonics. You can try it here with 250K controls, or a 500K volume and 250K tone to fatten the highs up a little. The Air Norton combines well with an Air Classic in the neck, and also with Cruiser, Chopper and Blue Velvet single coil pickups.

I've had this pickup for over a year, so I didn't just put it in yesterday and now i'm raving about it. What it sounds like (In Neck position): It's crystal clear, notes sing out forever, it's part of the "air" series that has a special magnet that reduces string pull and allows for longer sustain, which is absolutely wonderful. It sounds fat, very vowel-like. The cool thing about it is that it's very dark sounding, but has an amazing clarity. Harmonics scream, and every note picked is very present and has great dynamics. It's almost like having a second bridge pickup, it has that sort of clarity, but with that neck pickup smooth tone. If you are experiencing noise with this pickup, YOU goofed the wiring, or you don't know how to control your rig properly. If you don't have this pickup set high enough near the strings, you probably will have a "dark muddy" tone, like any pickup would too far from the strings.I gave it a 10 on all the ratings, because it has all the features a humbucker can have, top notch quality, an excellent value, and a great sounding pickup. It will be legendary one day, it's that good, at least to my ears.

I put this in the neck of an Ibanez Prestige and it is way too muddy and dark. The pickup would probably be good for cats who play jazz and want a dark tone from the clean neck setting or if you are looking to warm up a bright and brittle sounding guitar, this may work.

TONE!

Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:

This pickup is quite unique. It has a sort of glassy, almost single coil like chirp, yet all of the warm sustain and fluid response you could ever want. It is wild yet refined, and just sings under high gain, and is very full bodied and warm clean. I'm extremely pleased.
I have this in the neck position on two of my Ibanez RG prestige guitars. All I can say is "sweet, glassy, toneful, singing." Just amazing through my Soldano SLO. I have these paired with a tone zone in the bridge, and it is an amazing match.
Dimarzio is top notch

Surprising Versatility

Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:

I have my guitar set up for versatility and this is perfect for it. It's warm and fat, and like the thing says above, its not muddy at all. Coil tapping this is very nice. If you like using the bridge for overdriven rock/metal, use this with it as it basically will take your bridge pickups tone and just boost it to a fuller, louder sound. Alone on clean channel, its very nice and deep. On overdrive, it has nice bluesy, jazz sound waiting to be played. Speaking of playing.

Great neck pickup

Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:

I love this pick up! I tried it both in the neck & bridge. Here's my take: In the bridge it was pretty good, I just need a little more mid & treb for 1 of my bands so I ended up going with a tone zone. In the neck, this to me is the best sounding neck pickup I heard outside of Yngwie's neck pickup sound. It tracks well and has a great attack to it. Very big sounding and the clean is really nice too. I haven't wired it for split coils so I can't give an opinion on that, but I think my next guitar I get I will wire it for that. Anyways, I use this in both a guitar in standard and 1 tuned down to B and it sounds great in both. As far as the guy who said not to use it with a floyd, I don't know why. Maybe he needs an Fspaced one. Both guitars I have this in are old (1 87 & 1 89) Ibanez RGs. I haven't had any issue with these and the trem.

Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:

Wow. I replaced the 490R in my Les Paul Special II. The difference was immediately noticable. The Rhythm pickup has a nice clear mellow tone wit a little added punch. Nice and Clear. Coil Tap it and it rages like a Strat middle single-coil. I'm impressed and recommend it to anyone. Even my wife commented on how well it sounded.

Best Neck Pickup

Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:

I dropped this thing in the neck of my Jackson King V with a Dimebucker in the bridge and when both pickups are on all bets are off. The Air Norton has a low end, but its crisp and warm. It is pure power.

Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:

I recently got one of these for the neck position of my PRS Singlecut along with a D-Sonic in the bridge (yes, I'm a Petrucci tone fan) and I was floored by the quality of the sound. Brilliantly clean for fast passages, with thick sustain for those slowhand moments. It's also wired for coil tap, and it creates this brilliant bright tone when split, excellent for clean parts. They're essentially giving these things away at that price - if you want a change in clarity and sustain without a big change in your tone you worked so hard for, go with the Air Norton, for sure.

Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:

I have the Air Norton in the neck position of my 1974 Gibson Flying V and it is the coolest sounding clean tone I've ever heard. I also have a Andy Timmons in the bridge position and they really work well together. In the middle switch position, the AT adds a bit of sparkle to the AN. The AT is cool clean too but with the distortion channel on..................pure smoke. I have a Kahler trem and both pickups are great with it,(they are F spaced), so I don't know what the other reviewer was talking about. Buy one!!!!

Comments about DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup:

I put the Air Norton into the neck positon of my Gibson Les Paul Standard to match it up with an Air Zone in the bridge. The airiness give a smooth warm tone but the higher output an Alnico V give it clarity and a little spank. It sings like most DiMarzios do without the muddiness like Alnico 2 pups can have. No boom which is important to me. I love the midrange DiMarzios tend to have. No scoop, no boom. You can scoop the amp's eq if you want the tightness. I haven't hear an Air Norton in the bridge. I'm used to the PAF Pro, but definitely digging the Air Norton.
DiMarzio pickups come with 2 sets of screws (flat, phillips) durable lead, and the coils are wrapped well! unlike a certain other brand.
