Comments about DiMarzio DP217 HS-4 Electric Guitar Pickup:
If you are after YJM's tone, this is a must get. It does Pink Floyd tones well too. Remember you got to have a OD preamp pedal like a tube screamer, DOD YJM and others to boost the sound or it sound kinda lifeless. Dont be afraid to use an OD preamp pedal coupled with a distortion pedal or multi processor pedal board, the tone still remains clean.
It a very passive low to medium output. It is a lower output then most single coil pups in the market but there is a reason why.
I am a full size humbucker guy but I do love the tone of David Gilmour and YJM. The first time I got this pup, I wasn't too keen. I wasn't sure how to use it. The output is very low and kinda lifeless on my amp. It sounds great on 5150 amp. One day, I was watching YouTube and I saw YJM on a small Marshall amp with his YJM OD pedal and a Boss Noise Suppressor. A light came into my head. I have his OD pedal and I hooked it up to my Korg Toneworks 1000axg. Active the built in noise gate and set the OD pedal to full max. OMG! There it is! The tone was amazing. It has a violin flow to it. I came very close to YJM's tone. Ritchie Blackmore uses an Akai Tape Deck as a preamp to boost his signal as well. Now I got it. This pup has become my favorite. A tube screamer works well too since the YJM pedal is no longer made. Add the Dimarzio HS-3 to the bridge, you are in neo classical tone heaven. I may not play like him but the tone coming out of my strat is just plain beautiful. I had my friend tried my strat with my setup and his jaw nearly dropped to the floor. My bedroom amp are two Kustom Defender 5h head (5w tubes) with two 1x12 cab. It can get very loud but the tone stays heavenly.
The pup was design to be clean and does not color your sound. You have to boost it to make it sing. YJM got it right. Make the guitar neutral and let your amp and pedals do the work.

DiMarzio HS-4 pickup. Very impressive pickup. Amazing for neo-classical music. Highs are nice and round, mids are smooth, and bass is just perfect. Very balanced pickup. On a clean channel you can get super clean jazz tones then add a tad bit of dirt to it you can even get some nice texas blues. These pickups really shine though when you pile the gain on, they stay clean and articulate. I use a Modded DOD YJM 308 preamp overdrive pedal and the tone I can get though these pickups is phenomenal. Worth every penny. So if your pickups are too muddy and you want to improve your tone don't hesitate to buy these!

I was looking to upgrade the single-coil pickups in my MIM Sambora Strat to accompany the PAF PRO in the bridge. I talked to the guy who does my guitar work and he mentioned the HS-4s. They weren't on my list for consideration initially, but I decided to take a chance since the PAF PRO is a Dimarzio. WOW!!! The guitar sounds fantastic! I was worried about losing strat tone with the Dimarzio's but no worries! The tone sounds warm and "Strat-ty" when played clean and really sings when distorted and overdriven. Also, the "hum" was greatly reduced from the original pick ups. If you are looking for a "hotter" replacement strat pickup look no further.

i used this when it was still labeled the yjm. it was incredible in the neck. this pick up is made for fast fingers and not the blues player who milks one note for 10 seconds. the sound is natural and clean like the HS 3. as a neo classical style guitarist this pick up works for me. all my strats has it in the neck and 2 strats in the neck and bridge. thru high gain amp and a distortion/overdrive medal is all you need. even clean it does a marvel. this pick up is for virtuoso players who don't need top end of a pick up. rolled back shows how good a guitarist is on lead. never hide behind volume and overdrive. stay clean and mean with the HS 4.

Finally I got the chance to buy this pickup since there aren't many music stores here in Indonesia selling this product...but anyway, this is such a great pickup, really amazes me, no noise, you can throw all your distortion or overdrive units to your amp and still you get the best noiseless sound a pickup ever produced...great sounding pickup, especially if you're a shredder, wanna sound like YJM? buy this one..doesn't matter if your guitar volume pot is 250K or 500K
Comments about DiMarzio DP217 HS-4 Electric Guitar Pickup:
I put this in the neck of my peavey strat. The stock neck pick up didn't sound bad and I was in the yngwie tone ballpark. When I installed the yjm I noticed I lost sparkle, sustain and it didn't feel as free or open. The yjm also had more bass and the note dropped off too quick and lower stings were too bassy. I was actually more satisfied with my stock pickup and soldered it back in.
Comments about DiMarzio DP217 HS-4 Electric Guitar Pickup:
You have never heard a sweep pick untill you've heard it on this baby! I'm not kidding, the clarity of the arppegios will bring tears to your eyes. however, I do not recommend this pick-up for beginners, it has to clean a sound and requires percision. So if your good enough, then buy this pick-up, you will not regret it.
Comments about DiMarzio DP217 HS-4 Electric Guitar Pickup:
I recently overhauled my Ibanez RG 2550 with an eveolution set to replace the stock V7, V8 & Ls pickups. But when it came time to choose a middle pickup I was a bit lost. I knew the YJM was a powerhouse and a dream for tone, but honestly I thought putting it in the middle might be almost an abuse of sorts and mis use to the pickup. I WAS WRONG. This baby holds it's own between the 2 Evo's and when I wanna go from shred to strat, I kick my 5 blade halfway and this pickup does the rest. It really is versitile, powerful, and yet delicately agressive.
Comments about DiMarzio DP217 HS-4 Electric Guitar Pickup:
I'll admit I'm a "Vintage Strat" snob. I have several Pre CBS including my #1 a restored 1960. I could not be seperated from the tone of this guitar for anything ,till the advent of "Wi-Fi"computer signals the millions of cell phones with "Blue Tooth" and all the other garbage in the air these days. The hum had gotten ,unbearable even with a noise gate. I tried several brands of stacked "Humbuckers" all did the job of eliminating the hum,BUT,none except for the Di Marzio DP217 YJM, gave me the tone that I had come to love in this guitar. The closest, about 90 % there, were the Kinnmans. I Recommend the DP217 YJM to anybody looking for some quiet between notes and "Tone to the Bone"The DiMarzio DP217 YJM is the pickup solution for you.

I recently wired these into my Kramer Unknown and its spectacular! Best single coil ever. You can get a bunch of different colors, if you go check out Dimarzio.com. They have a list of colors, and I got green, and oh man does it look beautiful!
