I have played rock/metal guitar as a hobbyist for years. It seems most guitars come standard with Seymour Duncan pickups, which I feel sound weak and muddy. I have a Jackson Dinky, which I love because the flat maple fingerboard is ideal for soloing, but I despised the Seymour Duncan TB-4, which came standard. I prefer the sound of 70's and 80's rock (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Kiss), but could not find the sound I have searched for for so long. I have also owned an EMG-81, which is currently what Glenn Tipton of Judas Priest uses, but could not emulate his sound. I love a sharp sound (high treble) with a moderate amount of bass. After looking as specs, I decided on either a Dimarzio X2N, which I felt had too little bass, or the D-Activator, with a slightly higher amount of bass. I installed the D-Activator yesterday and was amazed at the sound. Not only is the distortion crisp and sharp (perfect for galloping), but the power chords exhibit great sustain. In addition, when played a more relaxed, blues-based tone, the pickup has excellent harmonics with clarity and punch. I have finally found the ideal pickup for me. Thanks Dimarzio. Now I know why Dave Murray (Iron Maiden), Glenn Tipton (who played Dimarzios in the 70's and 80's), and Ace Frehley use your pickups. They are fantastic. Thanks to Musicians Friend for making the price so cheap.
Tremendous pickup. This was exactly what I have been searching for.
Well made and looks superb (black and white with F-spacing) in my guitar.
The price represents tremendous value.

This pickup will be heard more than FELT. It lacks warmth or lows/low mids(to me)so tends to sound sterile, black and white, less colorful or human, this may be what you want? But it didn't work for me (all the time). My moods very and this P.U.is single minded and angry lacking emotions it doesn't know how to shed a tear. In other words it can dish it out but it can't take it(emotional content)unorganic unnatural quality, IN MY OPINION!

Comments about DiMarzio DP220 D-Activator Bridge Humbucker Pickup:
All out tone. I didn't care for the EMG 60, 81 sound from my Jackson Dinky. This pickup brought out the wood tone (adler) in a way I thought the EMG's would deliver. I couldn't be happier with this pickup, it has a good sound that resembles the '80's hair metal era.

I have one of these pups in 3 of my instruments and I absolutely love them. I do however believe that the D-Activator X is slightly hotter and is more for to my liking.

Great for what I play, hard rock but clear tone. Bought 3 so far.
Comments about DiMarzio DP220 D-Activator Bridge Humbucker Pickup:
I bought this to put into the bridge position of a custom made strat type guitar. It has an alder body w/ maple top, all maple neck, and hardtail bridge. I originally had humbucker sized p90's in it, which I loved, but wanted to put something more modern sounding in it for a few months. I thought I was buying a metal-flavored pickup but it is SO MUCH MORE! I've been extremely pleased to find that this pickup can do ANYTHING! It handles clean, overdriven, and heavily distorted tones with ease. Harmonics are flying out of this thing with minimal effort. Every note of a heaviliy distorted chord can be heard clearly to the point of being disorienting. I'm having a ball with this pickup; in's a definite keeper.
I've found that Dimarzio makes a high quality product--even the screws and springs that come with the pickup are top notch.
Dimarzio makes a fair priced product for smething made in the USA.
Comments about DiMarzio DP220 D-Activator Bridge Humbucker Pickup:
After having tried many different pickups in my Les Paul bridge(EMG 81, Seymour Duncan JB, Dimarzio Evolution), and never been completely happy. The D-Activator solved that! Great sounding pickup all around. Clean and clear with nice high output. Love this pickup.
Comments about DiMarzio DP220 D-Activator Bridge Humbucker Pickup:
I love this pick up. But I can assure you it is tone wood sensitive. Its a brighter tighter sounds pick up so you should have some warm tone wood somewhere in the guitar. I played it through a mahoghany body with a maple and walnut meck(mostly maple) and this thing roared! It was touch sensitive which is perfect for tapping. I have heard it through basswood and it sounds just as good.
Awesome. It does what it describes.
It's dimarzio
Not too bad In price
Comments about DiMarzio DP220 D-Activator Bridge Humbucker Pickup:
You won't regret purchasing this! I have an Ibanez RG and put the D-Activator in the bridge and a Liquifire in the neck for a wide range of tones. Dimarzio blows the Ibanez V series pickups away!
First of all, this is a very high output pickup! It sounds fantastic! You want harmonics and clear, heavy distortion? Balanced for great highs and lows. This does it all! Just as the description states, it has the big sound of an active in a passive pickup. Also, playing cleans sound very clear. Great for any hard rock/metal player!
I don't think quality pickups get any better than Dimarzio!
For about $70, you can make your guitar sound amazing.

Comments about DiMarzio DP220 D-Activator Bridge Humbucker Pickup:
I put this in my ibanez RG and its great. I can get a very metal sound as well as get a very clean, articulate sound with some good chorusing. The pick can definately get you where you need to go. Ive even fooled around with some coutry tunes and it was good. This pick up can really enhance your tone like nothing else. It has good over bite with not a lot of sharp edges.
Comments about DiMarzio DP220 D-Activator Bridge Humbucker Pickup:
I got this pickup to replace the stock bridge pickup in my 1980 Vantage Les Paul (brand from Japan). The old pickup sounded ok, but had started to become microphonic and would feedback badly at higher volumes. I had heard good things about the D Activator for hard rock and metal (the primary genres I play on this guitar) so I tried it out. This thing is great! First off, I love the clarity of this pickup in my guitar. I play in drop C and with the old pickup it would sometimes get muddy. With the D Activator, the articulations are conveyed much more honestly and clearly, especially for fast stuff. Also, feedback and noise were reduced from before. I recommend this to anyone playing rock or metal that wants clarity and power, without the trouble of actives. This is a great pickup!
The biggest "feature" I needed in a new pickup was the ability to coil tap/split. I use that for a psuedo acoustic sound when playing live. This pickup allowed me to easily do that with my existing mini switch. Works great, sounds great.
This thing seems very well made to me. Sounds great, looks great in my guitar.
