OVERVIEW

A tough, in-your-face sound that's also perfect for shredding and technical playing.

Transition Neck & Bridge Model pickups were designed for Steve Lukather and Luke's new LIII Music Man guitar. The pickups are named after Steve's album, Transition. Lukather played the LIII guitar with Transition pickups throughout the record. The passive Transitio humbuckers are both subtle and tough. They have power and they have depth. Steve says they're organic, and they allow him to own his sound. "These days I like it simple and direct," he shares. Steve says he's started over sonically and is into a more organic sound these days, but the Transition Bridge Model has a tough, in-your-face sound that's also perfect for shredding and technical playing.

Recommended for bridge.

Tech Talk
A powerful magnet and coils tuned to slightly different frequencies create very strong fundamental tones, with sustained notes that resolve easily to first- and second-order harmonics. The output rating isn't as high as DiMarzio's loudest models, but the Transition Bridge Model puts a lot of impact into every picked note.

Comments about DiMarzio DP255 Transition Bridge Humbucker Pickup F-Spaced:

My favorite bridge pickup. If you check out Dimarzios site and compare the Transition bridge PU to the Crunch Lab, they are virtually identical. The Transition has slightly less power than the Crunch Lab, but still has plenty of power. The slightly boosted mids of the Transition actually makes it seem a little more powerful than it is. It is still considered a high power PU. It's ceramic magnet design and relatively low DC resistance for a hot pickup makes this pickup very tight in the low end, plenty of snap on the low strings and very fast and responsive. It has an open sound that is very dynamic with picking strength and volume control. It is not really made to be a "metal" pickup but handles metal with ease with the right amp. My Peavey 5150 LOVES this PU. Fast staccato picking is tight and percussive and the sustain is superb to make it sing. Long sustained notes sing with juicy harmonics. My only complaint is I got the matching neck pickup and it was a little muddy to my ears. So I put in a PAF Joe and it's perfect! If you like to shred, this pickup won't disappoint. If you like chimey cleans, it won't disappoint. If you like chunk, it won't disappoint. If you like your guitar to sizzle and scream, it won't disappoint. It screams, yet it's warm at the same time. Complex harmonics. Best pickup out there in my opinion.

Comments about DiMarzio DP255 Transition Bridge Humbucker Pickup F-Spaced:

I expected this pickups to be good... but i was blown away!
overdriven and distorted they sounds much better than the Dimarzio PAF 36th anniversary previously installed in my guitar (Cort KX-Custom)... they sound rounded, with more punch, and singing voice at the same time, i mean they sound powerful but not shrill highs or boomy bass at all... bridge is perfectly balanced, neck tends to be warm and bassy but right in the limit of the good way...

My guitar is in the bright side, so, compared with de PAFs 36th, this set has bass side a lot more present and defined, pretty obvious with power chords... bridge is louder than neck...

Playing clean, both Transitions are less definded string to string and less "acoustic" "woody" than PAFs 36th... bridge overdrives a little the clean channel, but still is warmer than the 36th DP223, and sounds rounder/fuller, so i prefer the clean of the transition bridge even if has clearly that "high output pickup" character, still has good clarity and not sterile at all, i vet due low resistence (around 11kOhm) coil split is great (splitting to inner coil at least) it retain that roundness and improve clarity with chording.

neck is quietter than bridge, and retain that warm/bassy character ear while distorted... compared con paf 36th DP103, his cleans has less edge over 36th cleans, in fact i think is a tie.... because has almost the same output but its a little less defined... but is more warmer/bassy in a good way... so i think depending on apliccation, one could be better than the other.... splitting to outer coil (screws side) sounds good but in clean channel tends to be so quietter compared with full humbucking, that im planning to split to inner coil to see what happens...

distorted the neck, full humbucker, sings a lot better to my ears than the DP103 tough...

overall, pretty happy with this pickup set so far...

Comments about DiMarzio DP255 Transition Bridge Humbucker Pickup F-Spaced:

I bought this pickup, because I liked the demo online by Steve Lukather, for whom the pickup was designed. Unlike the Tone Zone, where the focus is on the lows and lower mids, the Transition is very balanced across the EQ spectrum. It's a hot pickup, but it's tight. It responds well to fast picking, and remains clear with distortion. It's a good choice for one pickup guitars, though I paired it with a PAF Joe in the neck. This may be the best Dimarzio pickup I've played.
