Fat tone and great pick attack.
The Virtual Vintage 1954 Pro pickup uses the same ground breaking technology as the Area 58 and Area 61 pickups. The 54 Pro replaces the Virtual Vintage 54 and Virtual 2 middle pickups. It has a warm, smoky sound, fattens up when you pick hard, and has a special grade of Alnico 2 magnet to reduce string pull. And like all of the Virtual Vintage models, it's dead quiet.
The DP408 pickup is recommended for all positions.
Tech Talk: The major difference between the 54 Pro and the Area 61 is in pick attack. The 54 Pro has a fatter, woody tone, and the sound almost seems to compress when picked hard. Blues players favor this type of sound for the way it fattens up solos, particularly in the bridge position. The DP408 pickup is also good in the neck and middle positions to warm up bright-sounding guitars.

I replaced my middle pickup with dp408. this pickup is quiet as a mouse. when in combination with other pickups (neck or bridge), it gives you the Mark Knopfler type sound which I love dearly.

Installed a set of 3 in my 1997 Fender American Stratocaster, ash body, rosewood neck.I ordered the aged white color, they match the stock Fender 3-ply pickguard perfectly, they do not have a visible logo, keeping the stock look (which I like)My strat no longer makes any noise at all, even when using very high gain settings. I'm very happy with the tone from all positions, to me these sound a bit stronger, and a bit beefier than stock, but definitely what I want to hear from a Strat. The sound from the neck postion pickup is simply beautiful.I waited 8 weeks for these pickups, they were on factory backorder, so was full of expectation by the time they arrived. Definitely worth the wait though. I would reocommend these pickups to anyone looking for a good noiseless upgrade.Am rating 5.0 for all categories, there may be better pickups out there, but I won't be looking, I'll be playing :)

I really do like the tone of this pickup. Has a nice woody sound that is not harsh at all in the bridge position. However there are a lot of claims that it sounds exactly like a single coil despite the fact that it's a stacked bucker. I can tell that it is a stacked humbucker when I have custom shop 69's right next to it in the middle and neck position to compare it to. It does not complement the custom 69 in position 2 very well (yes I made sure they were wired in phase). It gives it a decent quacky tone that it should have but it was slightly too weak and quiet. Overall a pretty good pickup. I believe Dimarzio Area/Virtual Vintage pickups were engineered to be used with each other to really get the most out of all 5 pickup selections.

I just installed one of these in the bridge of a new strat, simply amazing.My setup is Area 58/58/54 in neck/mid/bridge respectively. This model, the 54, is slightly hotter than the 58 and makes a perfect bridge pickup in my opinion.I also considered the heavy blues 2 for my bridge position, it is very similar to this model but slightly hotter and heavier on the low end. These are the only stacked humbuckers I've heard which truly capture the single coil sound (and with no hum!), you would never know they were not true single coils until you take the cover off.Highly recommended.
