    DiMarzio

Takes you all the way from Nashville to Texas.

Drawing upon the steely, yet woody-sounding tonality of several pickups from the early '60s, DiMarzio has produced a modern version of these vintage gems with no hum and less magnet pull. DiMarzio has been working on serious vintage single-coil design with no hum for eight years, with the goal of capturing the best qualities of guitar pickups from the 1950s and early '60s. The DP416 Area '61 succeeds admirably, is good in all three positions, and is a perfect bridge pickup with a pair of Area '58s if you want to go all the way from Nashville to Texas in one guitar.

Tech Talk: Over the last 10 years DiMarzio received hundreds of requests from guitarists asking for the Texas blues sound. This sound is centered on single-coils from the early 1960s, but it's also based on heavy strings and strong hands. The Area '61 captures the tonal bedrock this sound is based on. Like the Area '58, the Area '61 really responds to different pick attacks: played hard, it sounds louder and tougher than you'd expect from a vintage pickup, but it cleans up immediately by picking softer or rolling down the volume control. And like the Area '58, its ability to cancel hum is superior to full-size humbuckers.

Great vintage sound fortified with today's technology. Order now!

    Finally!!!! Strat tone!!!!!!!!!

    By tankyjo

    from MT

Comments about DiMarzio DP416 Area '61 Pickup:

To be fair to Fender, I've owned only imported strats,I love strat tone. and I've tried different pickups in everyone I've owned, and sold all but one,a Squier Fat Strat. I would have been money ahead to buy a USA model years ago. However, I decided to give DiMarzio a shot on this. I started with an area 58 in the neck to see if I could get some good blues tones. Now I'm hooked, so I got an area 61 for mid, and WOW!!! I have a ToneZone in the bridge so I wanted a little hotter PU than the 58 for mid. I am using a tone pot for neck only, and put a 500K pot for bridge VOL. in place of the mid tone pot, that way I can keep the bridge VOL. at 5,neck and mid VOL. at 7, and get only minor volume changes when switching, that also allows an easy way to add treble and crunch on the fly. Some say these PUPS don't sound truly like a single coil, but I disagree, what IS different, and sweet about these is they have way more dynamics than a regular single coil, and they respond more like a humbucker to your volume pots. I stayed with 250K for the 58 and 61. If my Strat was a standard, I would put a 54Pro in the bridge, I AM hooked! Thanks DiMarzio.

Slightly Superior to the stock American Strat

    By Dean C.

    from Kingman, Arizona

Comments about DiMarzio DP416 Area '61 Pickup:

I recently put an Area 58 on the neck and middle, and an Area 61 on the bridge of my Mexican Strat. They are a DEFINITE upgrade from the Mexican Strat stock pickups, and I would make that change again in a heartbeat if given the chance. If I was totally impressed with these, I was planning on doing the same upgrade on my 2007 American Strat. In a side-by-side comparison with the American Strat with stock pickups (keeping in mind that every guitar sounds inherently different), the DiMarzio pickups on the Mexican Strat sounded slightly cleaner, with a bit more sparkle and quack than the stock pickups on my American Strat. The DiMarzio's are definitely sweet, but not enough difference for me to spend the money and the trouble to replace my stock pickups on my American Strat. DEFINITELY NOISELESS THOUGH! Not even the slightest hum or buzz when in single pickup position.

Simply the best for my taste

    By PedalTweaker

    from Philippines

Comments about DiMarzio DP416 Area '61 Pickup:

I haven't tried yet other boutique pickups but the Area 61 sounds great to my ear. I used it for neck and middle. It has the right bite, not thin, smooth yet it cuts like what single coil should sound like. Not 100% sounding like real singles (which has much twang) but it's way up there already. I have virtual vintage 2.2 (modern & vintage sound) which sounds good on my other guitar. But I like variety of sound. Both models brought good results. Extremely pleased. Thanks Dimarzio!

    Plays Well With Others

    By Will-rhmDl

    from Alabama

Comments about DiMarzio DP416 Area '61 Pickup:

This pickup gets and A+ for tone. It's everything the reviews say, bright, vintage sounding, noiseless, perfect. But this pickup also gets an A+ in conduct. It sounds so good coupled with an area 67 in the middle or 58 in the neck and my player's strat allows me to use all three or bridge and neck together and thos work great too. It is one of the three perfect vintage and or/noiseless single coils, period.

    Great strat bridge pickup

    By BigBo

    from Raleigh, NC

Comments about DiMarzio DP416 Area '61 Pickup:

This is a great bridge pickup for your strat. It is bright, clear, and handles distortion very well. Paired with two area 58's in the neck and middle, you can have all the strat tones with zero noise at your finger tips. This is quite a bright pickup, so what I do is wire it instead of the middle pickup to one of the tone controls, and play with the tone pot on about 6 or 7ish. It allows you to roll off some of the high end.

    Finally

    By Fool For A Fender

    from Los Angeles

Comments about DiMarzio DP416 Area '61 Pickup:

I love the sound of Fender Texas Specials but I hate the noise. I replaced them with two Area 61s and a Virtual Vintage in the brige position. I've used just about all the others these are the best PERIOD.

i have had these in my 88 strat for a little over a year, i am crazy about them, i have one the the bridge, and one in the neck, i have an area 58 in the mid, they all sound great, well worth the money, i can get any tone i want out of them, and my musical tastes are all over the place, also, they are super quite, i think they are the holy grail of single coil pickups, i just can`t say enough about them

I bought these pickup to replace the bridge pickup for my custom strat. They are what they say. Paired with the Area 58 I feel I have a vintage strat without the hum.

    DiMarzio Area '61 Pickup

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Comments about DiMarzio DP416 Area '61 Pickup:

I have this pickup in the bridge position of my Strat. It is one of the best pickups I've ever heard. I have a Fender Vintage Noiseless in the middle, and they sound excellent together. The '61 alone sounds great alone, clean or distorted, and really sounds and behaves like a pickup from the sixties. It is responsive to where and how you pick the string, and behaves well with all kinds of pedals (those I've tried anyway). But the most important thing to me is that it is ABSOLUTELY SILENT. It is quieter than my Fender noiseless pickups AND the Humbuckers in my LP. Even at high gain. That's crucial when recording. If you are looking for that sixties tone with no noise, check this pup out.
