DiMarzio heard about Paul Gilbert in the 1980s. Billy Sheehan told them about an amazing 18-year-old who had recently arrived in California and had blown everyone away with his musicianship, speed, and awesome technical ability in Racer X. DiMarzio immediately asked Paul to become a DiMarzio® endorser. Recently, Paul has been heavily into DiMarzio's Area™ pickups. He’s also been playing a lot of Racer X-style instrumentals, so the time was right for signature Paul Gilbert single-coil sized DiMarzio® pickups. The outcome of their teamwork are the new Injector™ Neck and Bridge Model pickups. Paul loves the results, and you can hear them on his latest CD, “Fuzz Universe”.
The Paul Gilbert Injector™ Bridge Model is one of DiMarzio's hottest hum-canceling models (185mV output) with six individual Alnico magnets. The DP423 sound is not like a vintage single-coil – highs are bright but not glassy, and lows are solid and defined. The Injector Bridge pickup was designed to work equally well with rapid single-note arpeggios and power chords without becoming muddy or compressed. It has about 40% less magnet-pull than standard single-coils, and this is essential for the superior speed and dynamic range with which this pickup responds to pick attack.
Paul's setup on the guitar he played on Fuzz Universe was Injector™ Neck Model in the neck, Area 67™ in the middle, and Injector™ Bridge Model in the bridge. The Injector™ is a lot louder and warmer than the Area 67™ but the combination produces varied tonal colors in the 2 and 4 positions, with the Area 67 alone providing vintage tone and the Injector Neck and Bridge for heavier sounds.

I purchased the injector bridge pickup with the aged white cover. Great Pickup! This is the first single coil bridge pickup that I have tried that truly balances well with a strat neck pickup. This pickup can produce a very warm, very articulate sound (just dial back the tone a hair) or a very loud (meaning actually loud enough to balance with the neck pickup)standard strat bridge tone. Furthermore, this pickup rips with distortion or overdrive- the sound is bold, not thin and tinny, like with traditional single coils. Every note truly rings out.
My favorite aspect of the pickup, aside from the warm balanced sound, was that it was a direct replacement pickup that fit without modification to my 1995 62' reissue body. I have used vintage noiseless pickups in another guitar, and had to route a larger cavity to accomodate- no fun... Reissue bodies can be very fickle about pickup sizes.
Great sound, extremely well balanced with the stock neck and middle 62' reissue pickups. I would not hesitate to buy the injector pickup again. Worlds above other bridge pickups I have tried in the past.

Very nice single coil bridge pickup. Powerful yet retains single coil character. Has the concrete Dimarzio sound rather than the more organic "fuzzy" tone like Duncans. Roll back the tone control and sounds a lot like a humbucker. Controls hum well. I installed it on a reverse slant. (See photo). This one is a winner. The neck pickup is great too.

I have always been a fan of DiMarzio pickups, and this specific pickup goes great in the middle possition of a ibanez, or the bridge of a strat. I have it in the middle ibanez position between two very powerfull humbuckers.This is a hum cancelling single coil, but it gives you absolutley EVERYTHING you want from a single coil, like that juicy, twangy, rubbery/thick sweet sound, but it gets rid of the face flinching movement you make when you hit a high note on a single coil. It have the perfect amount of attack on the high strings, with amazing thickness and clarity on the low strings. For the money, this pickup packs a powerful punch that is totally worth it
