Made my bass sound just like I wanted it too. Not many can say that.
You can't do much for features on a P-bass pickup, but the option of parallel wiring and the allen wrench polepieces are pretty nice.
When I first put these in, I have to admit that I was a little disappointed. The tone change didn't seem too great from the old Korean pickups that were in the thing. But then, I played with my band, and it really, really, really came through. Even my drummer/brother commented on how good it sounded... And for those of you who don't have brothers, a complement from a teenage one is rare.
Its tone is hard to explain. It's perfectly fat and warm without turning to mud with my 15inch speakers from the late 70's and ample gain with the low control cranked. Now, you could think that means thin sounding, but no! The low frequencies are there even without the controls dimed, but just not thickly so.
It's also very sensitive to changes in technique. With a pick it booms, with a finger it m'wahs.
I'm jewish, so the first thing I look for is price. When I saw $60 for a pickup, I had a feeling that was the one I was going to get. Couldn't do anything better for $60 to a P-Bass.

I like DiMarzio pickups, I had a Musicmaster with a DP-120 that I thought was fantastic. When I was looking for P-Bass pickups, I immediately thought of these.

Now that I have them, I'm not sure I'd get another set. They have a great sound - bright and articulate, with a good, solid low end, but they are noisy as hell. I'm pretty decent with shielding and have another P-Bass and a Telecaster that are virtually noise-free, but I cannot get rid of RF hum from dimmer-switches and fluorescent lights with these.

At low practice volumes I've been able to make the hum virtually inaudible, but if you crank it up and take your hands off the strings, you're gonna hear some lines-hum. I'm able to live with it by using good control of the volume knob when not playing, and by keeping fingers on other strings when playing open notes, but at times I still find it irritating.

If you like playing Rock loud, and you don't mind some hum, or are able to control it, these are great. Not sure I'd recommend them otherwise though.

Comments about DiMarzio Model P DP122 Replacement Pickup for Fender P Bass:

Punchy articulate P-Bass tone with added output with more mids than traditional P-Bass PUs. Recommended for folks who rock and looking to add that gain and mids to their sound - think of it as traditional P-Bass tone with more clearity and sits better balanced in the mix.
I really like the wiring option to add a Series/Parallel switch for additional tone options = great option for slap or just something different. I used a .47 tone cap but will be changing to a .87 value to relax the mids more. I highly recommend swapping out the pots/cap for nice quality 250k pots if not already installed. The PU, pots, output jack, tone cap and switch = less than 90 bones.
Quit thinkin' 'bout it and get 'em. -Deek

Comments about DiMarzio Model P DP122 Replacement Pickup for Fender P Bass:

I've used two of these pickups now on two different basses and I absolutely love it. It's super punchy, articulate, and bright. It sounds great for both slap and fingerstyle playing. I am flabbergasted that an inexpensive passive pickup sounds this good.

I currently have a .087 μF capacitor on my tone control and find the full range to be useful. I think a .100 μF capacitor might be better though. This is a very bright pickup so I'm almost always rolling a bit of trebel off.

          A Modern Classic

Comments about DiMarzio Model P DP122 Replacement Pickup for Fender P Bass:

I recently purchased a '67 Tiesco Del Rey (which was very much like the first bass I ever had) and completelt rebuilt and customized it. I put a DiMarzio Model P in the middle and a DiMarzio Model 1 at the neck. This P pickup is amazing. It has a lot of full bottom end, while at the same time retaining that P bass punch. I'm sold.

          Oh yeah, that P-bass sound!!!

          By Hep the Hammer

Comments about DiMarzio Model P DP122 Replacement Pickup for Fender P Bass:

I installed these in a Precision Lyte bass that I own and it made a huge difference. I'm not real crazy about this particular bass because it doesn't quite have the guts and growl that my regular P-bass has. However, after installing these DiMarzio P bass replacements pickups it sounds great! I'm actually enjoying the sound now. I have used Seymour Duncan quarter pounders up to this point. The DiMarzios sound just as good, are cheaper, and in my opinion, better made. You won't be disappointed.

Comments about DiMarzio Model P DP122 Replacement Pickup for Fender P Bass:

I own A standard ( MIM)p bass, after installing these pickups it sounds like a vintage Fender, It's great for that Deep Motown Bass sound we all love, or versatile enough for rock, blues or jazz,. This is a must buy!! dont spend twice as much on an American Pb ass when you get a MIM fender and upgrade! I would put my bass against any P bass!!! and I mean any!! Bass players always come up to me to ask how I get that deep deep growl, they tell me it sounds Like I'm playing a vintage bass going through a tube amp!! And I'm Loving it!Get these pickups

          from New York

Comments about DiMarzio Model P DP122 Replacement Pickup for Fender P Bass:

I started out playing on an old Fender P bass. An unknown bassman. The bass needed lots of work. This pickup was just the thing. Now I am known as Mr. Scary, the bass is known as Bell to my fans, and is just as famous as I am in my home state! So if you have a P bass and it needs love give it the the old DM shot in thr arm!
