Easy to install, offering fast response and versatility of tones for high-speed single-note lines and power chords.

The DiMarzio Paul Gilbert Injector Prewired Pickguard Pickup Set requires no soldering and includes pickguard, pots, knobs, and 3 well-designed pickups: the Injector Neck (neck), the Area 67 (middle), and the Injector Bridge (bridge). Easy to install, they'll bring a collection of Paul's favorite tones to your Strat-style guitar while reducing noise.

DiMarzio first heard about Paul Gilbert in the 1980s. Billy Sheehan reported about an amazing 18-year-old who had recently arrived in California and had blown everyone away with his musicianship, speed, and awesome technical ability in Racer X. DiMarzio immediately asked Paul to become an endorser. It was the start of a great relationship. Recently, Paul has been heavily into DiMarzio Area pickups. He's also been playing a lot of Racer X-style instrumentals, so the time was right for signature Paul Gilbert single-coil sized DiMarzio pickups. The outcome of this teamwork is the new Injector Neck and Bridge Model pickups.

    Injecter Neck (neck)
The Injector Neck Model has a modern rather than a vintage sound. It's warmer and louder (160mV output) than a typical vintage single-coil — and of course it's hum-canceling. It's also faster. The Injector Neck Model tracks high-speed solos at high gain without becoming either thin or muddy, and has a very full, well-balanced, clean sound. It has about 40% less magnet-pull than standard single-coils, and this is essential for the superior speed and dynamic range with which this pickup responds to pick attack.

Paul's setup on the guitar he played on Fuzz Universe was Injector Neck Model in the neck, Area 67 in the middle, and Injector Bridge Model in the bridge. The Injector is a lot louder and warmer than the Area 67 but the combination produces varied tonal colors in the 2 and 4 positions, with the Area 67 alone providing vintage tone and the Injector Neck & Bridge for heavier sounds.

    Area 67 (middle)
The Monterey Pop Festival of 1967 was a watershed event in American music. When it was over, the world had heard and felt the sound of a Strat in the hands of a master. Single-coils in 1967 were bright and very clean. And, of course, they hummed. DiMarzio captured the classic bright and clean sound but totally eliminated the hum with their patented Area technology. They also reduced magnet pull by 40% for improved sustain and clarity. The Area 67 has the chime of 60s pickups, and the 2 and 4 positions are light, bright and quack-happy.

Strat pickups in the late 1960s used full-strength Alnico 5 magnets. The patented magnetic field of the Area models is more efficient and focused than it is on "true" single-coils, which allows us to use Alnico 2 instead. There's much less magnet pull, but no loss of output. This is a major advantage in the neck and middle positions, where sustain and intonation can both suffer if the strings are exposed to strong magnetic fields. In the bridge position, the patented technology of the Area '67 produces a sound that's very bright but not brittle.

    Injector Bridge (bridge)
The Injector Bridge Model is one of DiMarzio's hottest hum-canceling models (185mV output) with six individual Alnico magnets. The sound is not like a vintage single-coil — highs are bright but not glassy, and lows are solid and defined. It was designed to work equally well with rapid single-note arpeggios and power chords without becoming muddy or compressed. It has about 40% less magnet-pull than standard single-coils, and this is essential for the superior speed and dynamic range with which this pickup responds to pick attack.

Comments about DiMarzio Paul Gilbert Injector Prewired Pickguard Pickup Set:

I ordered this pickguard to replace the one I had in my current strat. I ran into the issues of the screw holes not lining up properly. I also had to make some alterations to the neck cutout of the pickguard because it wasn't quite large enough. The only other issue I have encountered is some static buildup near the volume and tone knobs, but that appears to be an issue with most new pickguards. It took awhile to get everything set up properly and sounding good, but once everything was set the guitar sounded excellent. Both the clean and distorted tones are very pleasing to the ear and the pickups provide wonderful clarity. I was very satisfied once i had installed this pickguard.

Comments about DiMarzio Paul Gilbert Injector Prewired Pickguard Pickup Set:

The Injector prewired pickup system was very easy to install. The sound was better than I expected. They provided a fuller sound than the original pickup S-1 system for my Fender American Deluxe Strat. It went from being a backup to my primary guitar. I play through a high gain amp but the single coils didn't sound great. After installing the Injectors, my guitar was able to scream at high gain and still put out clean tones when needed. This is a great setup if I ever want to switch out pickups as well.

Comments about DiMarzio Paul Gilbert Injector Prewired Pickguard Pickup Set:

This is a really nice sounding set of pickups and like Gilbert says, it really smoothes out the too trebly attack sound on the high strings. So, I can toss the T Rex compressor that is worthless anyhow. The pots are also much better than factory Fender.

I have a 2012 American Standard Strat and the Dimarzio pickguard screw holes simply do not line up, only five of the eleven screws would go in straight. Musicians Friend offered to send another one and Dimarzio claimed they had never heard that before. I liked the off white color of the factory guard better anyway so I just switched the parts out and its fine. The pickups are much quieter but I play with lots of gain so its a bit more noisy than my Les Paul but not a deal breaker.

I would still recommend them because this combo of pickups really produce a wide range of great tones and it still sounds like a Strat. I did not go with the Billy Corgan hums because I don't want my Strat to sound like a Les Paul.

I gave it a 5 because the pickguard from Dimarzio is bright white and I would have switched parts with the Fender next string change anyhow.

Comments about DiMarzio Paul Gilbert Injector Prewired Pickguard Pickup Set:

All is great with this set but the pickguard holes are way off. I need to go back and use my old pick guard. Dimarzio are not sure why and claim no one else has had the problem. I have a 2012 American Standard Strat so who knows....I like the sound and play high gain so there is still some hum. I would recommend them and beside fit the pickguard is bright white when the factory is a bit off white which I like better. It still looks like a Strat and sounds great. I did not want it to sound like a Les Paul. The pickups take the high pitch edge off the skinny strings. But it and change the pickguard because the pots and selector switch are far better than factory.

I have a 2012 American Standard and five of the screw holes do not line up at all. Dimarzio does not know why so I will have to used my old pick guard because I looks sloppy with a few screws missing and a few others at an angle. Otherwise its nice. I am still happy with it because of the sound I just don't like stringing a guitar. I would rate it at 4.9 because of the pick guard but that may be something Fender changed.

Comments about DiMarzio Paul Gilbert Injector Prewired Pickguard Pickup Set:

I wanted noiseless pickups with higher output that were easy to install. This product did the trick. Very easy to install--just clip three wires from old set, strip a 1/4" of cover, and screw into slots on this set. As for sound, these pickups are very good. However, if you are wanting to keep a Strat-style tone, don't get these; that is not what they do. If you are wanting a Les Paul type of sound, don't get these; again, that is not what they do. This pick up set is somewhere in between. You will get a fatter sound, but not like a Les Paul. You will get close to a Strat tone with the middle pickup in this set, but it will still lack the glassy bell tone of vintage single coils. This is a good set if you play with moderate or higher overdrive and want to keep the noise down in the signal. Only problem I had with this set is that the included pickguard did not fit my Strat, which was okay because I planned on using my pickguard anyway. If I were to use the included pickguard, I would have had to redrill two holes. Not really that big a deal.

Comments about DiMarzio Paul Gilbert Injector Prewired Pickguard Pickup Set:

I've owned several strats through the years and tried a lot of pickups from Texas specials, hot rails, several different Lace models, vintage noiseless, Fralins, etc.. all the way to active EMGs...and these pickups are the best by far IMO. Both for an authentic Strat "quack/sparkle/chime" along with some much more versatile tones from the neck and bridge.

The Area 67 works perfectly in the middle position, while the Injectors are both hot and toneful in the neck and bridge. The 2,3,and 4 positions (br/mid, mid, mid/neck) are simply magical for capturing that Hendrix/SRV/Clapton "Authentic Strat" tone. The Injectors in the bridge and neck sound very good clean, but really shine when pushed with distortion/OD. The bridge is bright and snarly, but not harsh...while the neck is more jazzy than most strat single coils.

Installation is very easy with the Dimarzio prewired guard--took me about 5 minutes. (Takes longer to loosen strings than to install pickguard)

Overall, these have far surpassed my expectations.
