Developed to give Paul the fast response and versatility of tones he needs for high-speed single-note lines and power chords.

The DiMarzio Paul Gilbert Injector '67 Set contains 3 well-designed pickups: the Injector Neck (neck), the Area 67 (middle), and the Injector Bridge (bridge). Easy to install, they'll bring a collection of Paul's favorite tones to your Strat-style guitar while reducing noise.

DiMarzio first heard about Paul Gilbert in the 1980s. Billy Sheehan reported about an amazing 18-year-old who had recently arrived in California and had blown everyone away with his musicianship, speed, and awesome technical ability in Racer X. DiMarzio immediately asked Paul to become an endorser. It was the start of a great relationship. Recently, Paul has been heavily into DiMarzio Area pickups. He's also been playing a lot of Racer X-style instrumentals, so the time was right for signature Paul Gilbert single-coil sized DiMarzio pickups. The outcome of this teamwork is the new Injector Neck and Bridge Model pickups.

Injecter Neck (neck)
The Injector Neck Model has a modern rather than a vintage sound. It's warmer and louder (160mV output) than a typical vintage single-coil - and of course it's hum-canceling. It's also faster. The Injector Neck Model tracks high-speed solos at high gain without becoming either thin or muddy, and has a very full, well-balanced, clean sound. It has about 40% less magnet-pull than standard single-coils, and this is essential for the superior speed and dynamic range with which this pickup responds to pick attack.

Paul's setup on the guitar he played on Fuzz Universe was Injector Neck Model in the neck, Area 67 in the middle, and Injector Bridge Model in the bridge. The Injector is a lot louder and warmer than the Area 67 but the combination produces varied tonal colors in the 2 and 4 positions, with the Area 67 alone providing vintage tone and the Injector Neck & Bridge for heavier sounds.

Area 67 (middle)
The Monterey Pop Festival of 1967 was a watershed event in American music. When it was over, the world had heard and felt the sound of a Strat in the hands of a master. Single-coils in 1967 were bright and very clean. And, of course, they hummed. DiMarzio captured the classic bright and clean sound but totally eliminated the hum with their patented Area technology. They also reduced magnet pull by 40% for improved sustain and clarity. The Area 67 has the chime of 60s pickups, and the 2 and 4 positions are light, bright and quack-happy.

Strat pickups in the late 1960s used full-strength Alnico 5 magnets. The patented magnetic field of the Area models is more efficient and focused than it is on "true" single-coils, which allows us to use Alnico 2 instead. There's much less magnet pull, but no loss of output. This is a major advantage in the neck and middle positions, where sustain and intonation can both suffer if the strings are exposed to strong magnetic fields. In the bridge position, the patented technology of the Area '67 produces a sound that's very bright but not brittle.

Injector Bridge (bridge)
The Injector Bridge Model is one of DiMarzio's hottest hum-canceling models (185mV output) with six individual Alnico magnets. The sound is not like a vintage single-coil - highs are bright but not glassy, and lows are solid and defined. It was designed to work equally well with rapid single-note arpeggios and power chords without becoming muddy or compressed. It has about 40% less magnet-pull than standard single-coils, and this is essential for the superior speed and dynamic range with which this pickup responds to pick attack.

Woke up my Strat.

from Virginia

Comments about DiMarzio PS422 Paul Gilbert Injector '67 Pickup Set:

I really like these. They have opened up my Stat. More power and NO HUMMMM at all. The tones are nice. Highs are not at the "hurting" point like the stock pups. They retain the "strat" tones and give you the bite of a humbucker and everywhere between. Very hard to explain the tone in the bridge only position. It is like a humbucker with a slight single coil undertone. All three pups have warmth now. The thin has fattened up somewhat. Don't get me wrong...you can still tell it is a Strat when you hear it but, if you didn't see the guitar, you may question what it is. I have been playing for more than 30 years and I have 8 guitars (PRS USA models, Jackson Soloist USA model, and Fender American) and three half-stacks (Mesa Triple Rec, Marshall JVM, and Peavey JSX. These pups sound very good through the JSX. I can't wait to hear them through the Tripe Rec. & Marshall. I couldn't find any reviews on these. I hope this helps you decide. I am pleased with my purchase and I am sure you will if you like your Strat tones but want a little more. I play in a few diferent bands. Christian Rock and Praise & Worship at my Church. These fit the need for both. Our Christian Rock band has light to heavy rock. Somewhat like a 80's hair metal.

Another feature I really like: They keep the appearance of the classic Strat. They look like a stock single coil. I really hate those pups that stick out looking like the focus point of the guitar.

These will fit any style music you throw at them. You will be wishing you got them earlier. I never give any piece of music gear a 10 this early into the game but, since there were no reviews on these, I am. These pups need to be looked at!!!!
These are are good pickups. Versitle in normal set up with 5-way switching. Coil taps would increase the options. I may look into that later. Currently, I have them set up as: 5-Bridge; 4-Bridge/Middle; 3-Middle; 2-Middle/Neck; 1-Neck.
Since they are 4- connector, coil taps or mini switches will pen the options. We'll see.
Quality is right on track. I got these in "Aged White" and it matches my Strat. I ordere these from MF and installed thm in my Fender American FSR "thin-skin" Strat (surf green). The Stratocaster also came from MF several months ago. Installation was simple. They match great, fit great, and look great. NO HUMMMMMMMM at all even with high gain.
An ok price for three pickups. Maybe a little over-priced but acceptable now that I installed and played them. I may play my Strat more than before.

Comments about DiMarzio PS422 Paul Gilbert Injector '67 Pickup Set:

These are a real good set of pickups. I found that they retained my strats tonal characteristics while canceling the hum. I put these in an 08' american strat, ash body with a maple neck. These were easy to install in the normal strat format, options for coil taping will require more effort. I used my standard tone pots and they work great with these. It's still a classic strat sound with a bit more mid out of the bridge than before. These are crisp and clear pickups that sound great with a lot of control with little setup. The only downside is that I was expecting a little more volume, like out of a double humbucker. (since these are stacked) These are more like the originals, IMO, with just a touch more punch. All in all, I am very pleased with the clean and distorted sounds from these. Great set of pickups, and comparable in price to others in their category. It's nice to play and not have that hum anymore

paid over 200 for these ...one was missing screws and springs...Musician friend? said they would send some...never received...had to assemble guitar with screws that don't match...for over 200 they should have been better about it...after over 20 years I will shop elsewhere as there is no shortage of internet music companies...
