Comments about DR Strings Black Beauties Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

They don't go dead because...they already are. Maybe other DR strings are great, but these are indisputably the worst strings I've put new on any guitar since I started playing in 1962 (thanks to the Bob Dylan album!). Imagine a set of crisp bronze strings covered with treacle - that's how they sound. I almost never write bad reviews, but I feel I have to warn you! I put them on a Martin 00028 EC and it suddenly sounded like a ukulele. After a week I replaced them with a set of GHS vintage Bronze (and they're not the best strings around either) and it now sounds like a Martin again.

Comments about DR Strings Black Beauties Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I was given a set of DR brand strings by a friend who was advised to try them by a amateur/professional acoustic player/singer/songwriter. I liked the way they felt, so I tried these (liking the way they looked).
They are my new standard for my Yamaha acoustic. You can feel the coating, but it feels good and gives me the detail I want for bends and pull offs and greatly reduces that fingernails on the chalkboard screech
when sliding. Probably the best string yet for the old flattop.

Comments about DR Strings Black Beauties Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I was stoked to try out DR BB's on my acoustic guitar (6) after falling in love with them on my electric bass (4). Coated strings just make sense for corrosion prevention and I really like the look of black strings but I think the technology needs some time to mature. While the wound strings seem to last longer, the black coating started flaking off the NON-WOUND B and E strings with less than 4 hours of playing time using normal degrees of picking and strumming intensities. This is very disappointing since the reason for the purchase was to have black strings! I mean, there are several brands of coated strings available but only DR offers them in black. Maybe I'll try these again in another year or two to see if they'll last longer.

Comments about DR Strings Black Beauties Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I am not much of an acoustic player and the reason for that has been because I never liked playing it much. The finger squeak is too much to deal with, even using my old std Finger Ease spray. I liked these coated stings @11-50 so much on my electrics I decided to put them on my acoustic and keep the same guage to avoid the discomfort.I also play both electric and my acoustic tuned down a full step. The coating serves to make the strings last a very long time. I have played one of my strats perhaps 8 times w no real visable loss in the coating, my other strat after 3 times has some loss on the 1st string pick area. Granted I am not brutal in attacking the strings like a Townshend would be. I play heavy fusion and I see where Vai is now recommending and using coated strings. I just dig the black, if I am going to use coated strings why not use something really cool against the color scheme of my guitars? The coating is sonically invisable and there is much less fret wear, less squeak and drag on both the acoustic and electric. I tend to stay w a particular string for a long time after setting my guitars up with them. I plan to use the DR Black Beauties for some time. I do not know if it's because I play a full step down but mine last a very long time and the tones are consistantly there after multiple plays. I use a high $ pedal board and a half stack so these puppies wail as good or better than anything else.

Comments about DR Strings Black Beauties Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

Wanted to try some black strings on my Martin D-15 (all mahogany). Strings looked very cool and performed well.....coating comes off pretty quickly around the soundhole (pretty much expected) and eventually wears off on your favorite fingering frets. They hold up pretty well, though.....all in all they were good - but I've returned to my Maritn SP's. No bling but I love the sound. If you want some black-coated strings, give these a try!
