K3T Black Beauties coated electric guitar strings on hexagonal core.

DRs EXTRA-Life Black Beauties offer guitar players a superior black coated string without sacrificing the crisp tone, clarity, and volume of traditional DR HandMade Strings. EXTRA-Life is a super thin advanced .0003" coating on the plain electric guitar strings and on the wrap wire for added protection.

DR's remarkable, and proprietary, patent pending K3T Technology Coating is the first coating that makes no apologies and no excuses. Players say these strings have less unwanted overtones, more volume, great clarity and articulation than standard uncoated strings. Yet, they provide the same protection against corrosion due to humidity and perspiration as well as the increased tonal life coated strings have come to be known for.

A couple months ago a 3rd consecutive set of Markleys let me down. Time to try something different. Enter these novel color-coated strings. I'd never heard of them in my 30 years of playing and almost passed them over, but I couldn't help but want to see what peacock blue strings would look like on an all black Epi Les Paul. I left the shop with 3 varied sets of medium gauge (10-46). I'm not a heavy player; a couple hours several times a week is all I can find time for. I do expect them to stay in tune, keep at least 75% of their original tone and brilliance for months at a time. That first set of DR's has held up so well that I went and bought a second set just yesterday. Yes, some of the coating has worn off, especially over the pickups, at the bridge, and in the first few frets. Strings break. Tune-O-matics IMO are the worst about this, but so far, this set is holding up nicely. It's shameful how the quality of these strings decreased over the years. They used to be very smooth and durable. Now, the coating feels damaged before you even put them on your guitar. I've broken two strings in the past two weeks. I've been playing for more than 15 years, and it's extremely rare when I break a string. I contacted DR, looking for an explanation for a drop in quality, and they didn't reply. Apparently, they do not care about retaining long-time customers. I'll never buy from them again.

DR Black Breakies

Comments about DR Strings Extra Life BKE-9 Black Beauties Lite Coated Electric Guitar Strings:

I had just put these on my new Ibanez Hollowbody, as I was cutting the extra ends off at the tuning pegs, to my dismay, I heard a *PLUNK*. My 1st string was gone, broken after 45 minutes of being on the guitar. Definitely not worth the money I paid for them. Try Elixers, now those are some good strings.

Good for E Standard but not for Drop C at all

By ThrashMetalBrandon

from Ridgely, MD

Comments about DR Strings Extra Life BKE-9 Black Beauties Lite Coated Electric Guitar Strings:

I bought these strings for my guitar I play in E back in Decemeber of 2009. They lasted up until June of 2010 with only breaking the Low E and B strings. Because I thought they were so great I decided to give 'em a shot on my Ibanez I use for Drop C. Within the first day of playing it the High E string snapped on me! So I recommend you use the DR Black Beautie BKE-9s for only E Standard tuning.

Comments about DR Strings Extra Life BKE-9 Black Beauties Lite Coated Electric Guitar Strings:

Wanted to tries these out, got them in the bke-12 slaped them on and my High E and my G string both broke with in the first 10 mins of playing... i figured i didnt take the extra time to stretch them in properly becasue of the extra coating.. so i bought a second set to give them a chance.. while installing, bend the left over string down and it snapped with barly any pressure.. will not buy these again.. i shouldnt have to be genetal on some aggressive strings...

B string broke after less than a month

By James5v

from Louisiana

Comments about DR Strings Extra Life BKE-9 Black Beauties Lite Coated Electric Guitar Strings:

Understood these strings were supposed to last a long time. I play about 3 times a week for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Regular usually last me about a month and seldom do I break a string while playing. I do not play hard and have a locking tuner and graphite bridge. Today after less than a month the B string broke while performing.

Broke on the 2nd day of playing

Comments about DR Strings Extra Life BKE-9 Black Beauties Lite Coated Electric Guitar Strings:

I purchased these strings for a little difference in my sound and wanted a different feel, all I got was in the middle of a lesson I was teaching a broken B string as I do a full bend, horrible! That night I reaplaced the B and was playing a crummy old A major chord and broke the G string on playing a OPEN POSITION CHORD. Never buy these strings, that sound great, play even better but break

pretty good strings.

By Stormbringer

from San Antonio, TX

Comments about DR Strings Extra Life BKE-9 Black Beauties Lite Coated Electric Guitar Strings:

i tried these strings out because I heard people talking about them. I have to say they are pretty good. I have had them on my guitar for about 4 months and I still am impressed. I play anywhere from 1-4 hours everyday and they havent let me down yet, I really like the feel of them. They look really cool with the black finish, but after about an hour of playing, it will be worn off, and now there is very little black finish left on the strings at all, but I still think it's worth it.

Didn't like them

By Axegrinder-pSPTN

from Hastings MN

Comments about DR Strings Extra Life BKE-9 Black Beauties Lite Coated Electric Guitar Strings:

I bought this strings to try something new. Once I put them on I found they felt very stiff. They also didnt sound as good as I thought they would, and the coating started to wear off right away. After a week I took them off. Not saying they are bad strings, but there just not for me. Back to my Boomers.
