OVERVIEW

Mellow tone and easy playing.

DR Strings flat wound Hi-Beam stainless steel bass strings are constructed upon a round core unique in the industry. The extra effort DR expends making Hi-Beams results in a bass string that is highly flexible, musically warm and renowned for durability, unusually long life, consistency, and string-to-string balance. They don't eat your frets.

Medium, 4 strings, 45-105. Not long scale.

Great strings. I have a fretted P bass with the DRs on it, a fretless J bass with the Dadarrios (both home-made) and a vintage P bass with the Rotosounds. Each of strings really bring out the best of all these basses. and these DRs realy bring out the smooth/earthy/funky tone of my custom P. (:
These strings are really smooth. they're the smoothest flatwound strings I've ever played. They can get all the tones I need from Fat motown, Jaco jazz sounds, rock to metal tone, and if you stick a little mute under the strings you can make a fretted p bass sound really close to an upright even on slides
I really like that theyre stainless cause I live by the water, but the also get really soft, when these are heavily used and getting floppy you can really get a good McCartney Beatles tone and upright tone.
I've gotten a fancy for flatwound strings and I guess they're all kind of expensive compared to rounds, but these are worth it. I've had a few sets of flats now and these are best for a fat smooth earthy yet funky tone, great for motown. The Daddario flats are a lot brighter and are better for fretless. The Rotosounds are also great, good John Deacon tone with those.

I'm a long time big fan of DR. I like their infinite lasting strings which keep their tone years and years, However I have been using Ernie Ball 2806 Flat Wound Group III on my Precision 70 with 62' pickup since 2010. P 62' pickup has an edgy top end and round low. I was curious about the legend and decided to give them a shot. I like the gorgeous gold wrapping at the end of the string and it looks awesome on my Olympic white Precision. A, D and G string sounds quite clear and open, but the E string is totally dead. No texture at all. It has thick low end though, but rather you use your nail or a pick, it has a dead click, and that's it. Quite a contrast with the other strings actually. It's a kind of sound I have heard on many R&B albums and may be your thing, but I personally prefer the Ernie Ball 2806 for Classic rock, Funk, Blues etc. The Ernie Ball 2806 do not have that strong E, but all strings are consistent and clear and cranking the low end a bit adds fatness to all strings. DR Legends may please many players and may possibly work better on more modern instrument. If DR claim to improve this I will try them again. Meanwhile, I am going back to my beloved Ernie Ball 2806.

Put these on a Sire V7 as round wounds sucked with trills and slides .. I needed an in-between Marcus and Jaco sound and these seem to fit....There may be better rounds out there, but these sound great for now.

These are a must to get closer to a real upright bass sound. The strings that come with your acoustice bass will not provide that. You need either steel or tape wound flat strings

Comments about DR Strings Flatwound Legend Bass Strings Medium:

I find these flatwounds a very good middle-of-the road string, a compromise between boutique strings that can cost you almost double the price (TIs) and value priced brands (EBMM). The tension is just right for me, not as stiff as D'addario Chromes (the stiffest flats I have ever tried) and much stiffer than TIs (the floppiest flats I have ever tried). The tension might not appeal to everyone, but I like them.
I currently have these strung on a Spector Euro LX4. There is an added bonus to these strings that I was not expecting, in that the wrap ends of the Legends are a golden color, which match very well aesthetically with the gold bridge and tuners of the Spector Euros.

These strings have a good sound out of the package.
I installed them on my P bass for a old school tone for R&B and Salsa.
Great for finger style playing and if you use a pick play between the bridge and pickup .

Comments about DR Strings Flatwound Legend Bass Strings Medium:

Recently bought a ridiculously low priced bass from Musician's Friend. Put these strings on yesterday and created my own stupid deal. These are the best I've used. I have been playing guitar and bass for more than four decades and have yet to find bass strings this comfortable. To all you beginners, these will help you. To all you Pros, you will shine. Try them and prepare to be "WOWED".

If you ar looking for a warm, fat tone, these DR Legends are the best Flatwound strings on the market. These strings allow you to slide from headstock to bridge without tearing holes in your fingers. Extremely comfortable to play on and a pleasure to spend the extra money on. Think "Sublime" for the sound.

I put these strings on the Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass.
