Gauges .45, .65, .85, .105.

Hi-Beam Stainless Steel Bass Strings are round wound and constructed upon a round core which is unique in the industry. Hi-Beams require much more time, care, and extra steps to make than other bass strings. The extra effort DR expends making Hi-Beams results in a bass string that is highly flexible, musically bright without harshness, and they're renowned for unusually long life, consistency, and string-to-string balance. They don't eat your frets. Choose them for brightness and ease of playing. They fit virtually all bass scale lengths up to 37-3/4".

I decided to try these after some recommendations by some fellow bass players, and I just can't say I like them. They feel very strange to my fingers for some reason. Tone is okay, not great.
I have played my Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkys for 20 years, and I guess I am just more comfortable with them, their feel, their tone.
Well made string, though.

Comments about DR Strings Hi Beams Medium 4 String Bass Strings:

After using GHS Super Steels for years, I tried DRs when I couldn't find my GHS supers. WOW. I go for piano-string tone (love that ringing twang) and I never thought I'd find a string equal to the Super Steels. Plus, the DRs are easier on my fingers, and they last longer too! It's been 18 years now with the DRs and they're all I use... on all 17 of my 4,5,and 6-string basses.

Comments about DR Strings Hi Beams Medium 4 String Bass Strings:

The previous strings on my '08 MIM Jazz were Elixer coated strings, so when I put the DR High Beams on I was disappointed to find that they were not as bright brand new as the used coated strings. However, after about 3 months of pretty heavy slapping, they sound exactly like new, if not better, and it's become clear that the reason they were less bright was because they simply weren't as harsh. They have already outlasted every other set of strings I've owned with zero decay in tone quality. I plan on purchasing High Beams as my next set of strings as well, because there is nothing that will cost so little during the long run.

Bass or Piano?

Comments about DR Strings Hi Beams Medium 4 String Bass Strings:

one thing i've learned: you are the best reviewer. i bought 5 sets of these on special because i had read 15 reviews all ecstatic about these strings. they have full piano-like tones, in fact, too much so. my warwick thumb fretted bass now sounds to me as if i were playing the low notes on a piano. sorry, but i want my bass to sound like a bass not a piano! i previously used & loved 3 sets of dean markley blue steel SS strings. strings are like stereo speakers they all have different sounds like stereo speakers. DR's are well-made strings, good strings just not the sound i like for my taste in stainless. i even prefer my less expensive D'A XL nickels XL160 for their sound compared to these DR's. basically, all i'm saying is buy 1 set & try them ikf you love them by more, just don't buy several sets of any strings for your bass based on other people's reviews.

Comments about DR Strings Hi Beams Medium 4 String Bass Strings:

The DR HiBeam is the very pinnacle achievement in the bass string universe. Made from magnetically optimal stainless steel in wrap and core, these strings offer perfect string to string balance both in tension and timbre as well as in output. They are constructed with the most flexible core wires possible to allow the string the ultimate flexibility so that not only are all the upper harmonics allowed to bloom fully but also there is the minimal distortion and inhibition of the fundamental components of the the strings activity which make for deeper and purer bottom both in immediate attack and also in sustained energy and this produces the most musical tone production as well as moving air in the freest sense. Intonation is spot on and I don't think there is any string which stays true for as extremely long a lifespan.

Comments about DR Strings Hi Beams Medium 4 String Bass Strings:

The DR Hi Beams are very versatile, with a consistent and well defined attack and balanced sustain. They retain these qualities for a long time, and regardless of the basses (e.g. Fender P and J, Ken Smith basses), amps (e.g. various GK, TC amps) or tone settings used. Equally suited for bright slap sounds as for a Stax/Motown tones.

I used "Roto Sounds" since the 70's was totally sold on them ... but the last 5 years I started breaking them ??? I love um ..we played 90 shows in 2013 only broke 2 ..wow what an improvement..
I'm sold ....I play in classic rock cover band..and they sound great on my J-bass & Schector elite 4

Comments about DR Strings Hi Beams Medium 4 String Bass Strings:

Have been using these on several of my basses for several years. Only problem that I have is that I have to mark down when I put them on since they dont die like every other string that I used, Then, when I put a new set on, its like, "dang, I could have got another couple months out of them..."

Comments about DR Strings Hi Beams Medium 4 String Bass Strings:

Best strings ive had yet. I have these on my ESP D-4. I bought them because i was shooting for an Alex Webster kind of tone at the time and wow they have great sound. Most of the other strings i have had loose tone in about 2 or 3 months max. ive had these for about 5 months now there still give me that nice growly wet sound. there great for metal. ive also played them with classic rock and slap and pop. there amazing strings all around. the D'addario XLs, Ernies, Boomers or Rotosound i had are no comparison. these strings also dont stain easy at all. so if you want quality strings that last, DR all the way.
