Comments about DR Strings Long Necks Taper Core Medium 6-String Bass Strings:

I have been using DR bass strings for about ten years. These are great sounding strings. If you have not used tapered core string before on your bass, you will need to adjust the intonation and the action on the bridge. Once this has been done, you are good to go.

I use these strings on my Carvin LB-76. The tapered core works very well, because the strings are feed through the body of the bass.

The only thing I do not like about these strings is that they only last a couple of months if you are playing about three nights a week. You can get about one more month out of them by boiling them in water.

      Hope this helps!

      Not Right......

Comments about DR Strings Long Necks Taper Core Medium 6-String Bass Strings:

Overall a bad string for me. Like I said, try the Dean Markley's. You will be happier with those by far. And thanks again Musician's Friend for being so helpful!
I tried these because I wanted a medium gauge string on my new six string bass. The core on these do not taper as thin as the other taper core strings I am used to
I strung these up and the tone was not bad. But because the tapered core is not like the others I use, the tone is not as open, and growly, especially on the lower strings. The stainless steel, is a bit rough and respondes slower to my fingers as opposed to nickel wound. They don't seem brighter to me. Also the taper core is too long and I cannot pick with my fingers as close to the bridge to get a more mid-rangy Jaco. tone

Still I thought they would be fine, but as I went up the neck, the pitch sounded wargly. Almost like a chorus effect, but out of tune sounding. Its har d to explain in words. The old dirty beat out strings on this bass did not do that at all. I have never had this issue with a bass string. I talked to a tech here at MF, and they said its a common problem. They said try lowering the pickups, that did not work. I noticed up at the headstock, that there were missing windings where they taper off to go into the machine head. The G and high C had no problem because they did not taper off. I got them exchanged for a new set, and they did not have the missing windings. However they still had the same issue. Not as bad, but still not right. I have had quality issues with other DR bass strings as well. I am exchanging these for my preferred choice of bass strings.
If these strings sounded right, they would be OK, but quality seems to be an issue with DR in my experience. I normally use Dean Markley SR2000s. I have used them for years and never had an issue. Check out my reviews on the four string sets. I will write a review on the sixes as soon as I get them. I have never owned a six string and thought the only Dean set that MF carries was too light as far as the C. That is why I tried these. I highly suggest you stay away form these.

I will say that despite this issue I will continue to shop here because of the helpful service. Everyone I talk too is very polite, and gets the job done with no hassle. Thank you for all of your hard work. Keep it up!!!
