DR Strings

Fatter, deeper, and smoother stainless steel bass strings wound on round cores.

Marcus Miller signature Fat Beams were designed for Marcus' exacting standards. Marcus Miller is a pioneer in electric bass who has worked with Miles Davis, served as a producer for "Night Music," developed an extensive resume as a producer in L.A., and has played on more than 200 records.

Marcus Miller worked with DR to develop a new and improved version of one of the best stainless round wound bass strings on the market. The effort took over a year, and the result is a “fatter, deeper, smoother” string that satisfied Marcus Miller’s demanding standard. Fatter tone. Deeper sound, smoother feel and response are the qualities that separate Marcus Miller “Fat-Beams” from all other ordinary bass strings. New “Fat-Beams” are also more consistent in feel along the length of the string, as well as string to string.

Gauges 45-65-85-105.

Okay, before I talk about the strings, let me give you the set up of the Bass. G&L American made Jazz, pluged into a Dunlop MXR M80 DI; monster gold cables and into either an Ampeg Micro SVT or Genz-Benz Shuttle 3.0 12T. I had been playing nickle strings for a long time because I strugged with fret buzz. However, these were recommended to me from a gigging musician. So far, I love the tone and have had them for two weeks. They really bring out the low end of my G&L Jazz and have wonderful clarity in the mids and high. I mainly use finger style on my Jazz bass, but picking doesn't sound bad with these strings either. I normally use GHS Boomers/standard gauge, but I may switch to DRs completely. You may want to check out their extra life strings. I own both the Black Beauties and Red Devil sets.

Comments about DR Strings Marcus Miller MM-45 Fat Beams Medium 4-String Bass Strings:

I guess you'd say im a meat and potatoes player. No effects ,straight thru the amp, I wanna hear myself and what everyones doin. If im in the board out front I let them do what they want. I tried these on a whim and am very impressed. Tite bottom and clear highs, not much finger noise, really sound good . To me they seem to just cut through better. I don't play like Marcus Miller but I admire him and think these strings work for what I play, classic rock, blues, country and Christian. Thanks Mr. Miller and Musicians Friend.

Comments about DR Strings Marcus Miller MM-45 Fat Beams Medium 4-String Bass Strings:

I switched to these strings because of the better bottom end on both my P and J basses. The feel and uniform quality are a plus.

            Clear, Clean, and Mean!

            By Soulman-PIsYI

            from Philly, PA.

Comments about DR Strings Marcus Miller MM-45 Fat Beams Medium 4-String Bass Strings:

I put the 45-100's on my Squire Vintage Modified 70's P-Bass TB, because both flats and nickel rounds made the bass somewhat muddy. Well let me tell you, the mud dried up! Now all I have is deep, clear, low end, and a brightness that adds voice to the bass rather than making it sharp and twangy. This was the tone I was looking for the Roundwound 70's tone! These also do wonders on a Jazz Bass where you want the bright snappy sound. They maybe a little more $$, but in the longrun they are worth it because they last.
