DR Strings

Fatter, deeper, and smoother stainless steel bass strings wound on round cores.

Marcus Miller signature Fat Beams were designed for Marcus' exacting standards. Marcus Miller is a pioneer in electric bass who has worked with Miles Davis, served as a producer for "Night Music," developed an extensive resume as a producer in L.A., and has played on more than 200 records.

Marcus Miller worked with DR to develop a new and improved version of one of the best stainless round wound bass strings on the market. The effort took over a year, and the result is a “fatter, deeper, smoother” string that satisfied Marcus Miller’s demanding standard. Fatter tone. Deeper sound, smoother feel and response are the qualities that separate Marcus Miller “Fat-Beams” from all other ordinary bass strings. New “Fat-Beams” are also more consistent in feel along the length of the string, as well as string to string.

This is my first set of these strings. The main reason I purchased them was that they are stainless steel, which I have been using for years on my electric guitars. I love the sound quality and the corrosion resistance of the metal. It has been my experience that stainless strings last longer as well.

The rating stars would make it appear that these are poor strings. They are actually good strings. The tonal quality, etc. that the other reviews mention is correct. My problem is with the length. I bought a set of DR Marcus Miller Fat Beams Medium 5-String Bass Strings for my 35" scale MTD Kingston Heir 5 bass. The B string is a bit too long so that while trying to wrap the narrow core end of the string around the tuning peg, I could only get 1 (one) winding around the tuning peg! The bulk of the string body ends up coming up past the nut and winding on the tuning peg. While that's not the end of the world, it's not correct and gives less than ideal tone and sustain. Most other brands of strings that I've tried, have NOT had this problem. I did not see anything in the information on the strings to indicate that it was too long for a 35" scale bass. The other 4 strings fit pretty well but a couple of them are close calls too. Overall, the strings are good but the length could be a problem for a bass under 36" scale. Good strings but be aware of the length before you buy them.

I've been into to music for a while and have an electric acoustic and electric guitar. I'm learning the bass and jumped into the 5-string bass ax. These Marcus Miller strings have a great tone. I happy with my purchase.

Comments about DR Strings Marcus Miller MM5-45 Fat Beams Medium 5-String Bass Strings .125 Low B:

I have purchased these strings before and have been very satisfied with them. My last set I bought yesterday has a B string that rattles a lot. I cannot use this set on a stage or a recording. I paid close to 40.00 at a music store (which was a big mistake but I needed a set right away). Now I have to come up with another B string to make these work. I ll be looking for a different brand from here on out. Consistency is a big factor in my purchases.

I only use DR strings because they have great tone quality and last the longest of any strings I've tried.

Comments about DR Strings Marcus Miller MM5-45 Fat Beams Medium 5-String Bass Strings .125 Low B:

Wow.That's all I can say is 'wow'. I went into my local guitar shop to buy some new strings, and I asked for DR High Beams. They were fresh out, but 'lo and behold! They had one pack of Marcus Miller 5's left. I know who Marcus is, and I know he's an incredible musician. So, I got them. And wow.All I could say was wow. These strings have monstrous tone that cannot be beat by any other strings. They'll clang and rattle just the right amount to give your tone that extra zing, but not enough to sound loose. These strings are simply perfect. Wow.

These are quite simply the best strings I have ever played. Long lasting with a centered core sound that is appropriate for many styles. Great feel, tone, and longevity. Consistantly well intonated...you get the idea. Worth having the name "Marcus Miller" on them.

I've had these strings for a few months now and they're definitely worth the buy. They are good for having rattle in your sound, if that's the way you like it. They play well in standard all the way to C and beyond. they also feel really nice to the touch.

Comments about DR Strings Marcus Miller MM5-45 Fat Beams Medium 5-String Bass Strings .125 Low B:

Got these strings recently, partially influenced by the fact that Marcus Miller uses them--always loved his sound. Put them on my Original Tobias 5 String--and they're awesome! I never had much luck slapping with my Tobias with my previous strings, and the low B never sounded right. Not anymore!! The bass sounds "alive", more so than ever, and I couldn't be any happier with the strings. Highly recommended.
