This string set has a good tight feel to them. They hold tune quite well and sound great with high bends. Not as bright as plain nickel wound say like Ernie Ball. Has more midrange and punch in my opinion. They have a real girthy tone. The color is quite attractive. Looks good on a black guitar. I feel aside from the actual function of the strings, there is an aesthetic effect in that the guitar jumps out and I find myself playing longer and more often. The coating will rub off but if you use a tortex pick or celluloid, they will last longer. If you use a metal pick, then it will rub off sooner. This is the downside to the aesthetics as it kind of looks messy over the pickups and where you fret the most after a few days which then makes one wonder if the strings with invisible coating also comes off(?) At twice the price of other strings the coating ought to last longer than it does but... Oh and the strings don't ever feel greasy so the coating works... Overall, I like them and bought the other colors too. Find out for yourself.. They're worth a try.

I bought these strings for a guitar build I was completing to give it a cool eye catching appearance. I actually broke the B string at the tuning peg during installation prior to even getting it up to tune! First time I can ever say that has happened to me in 30 years of guitar playing. The strings sound dead like a set that has been played for months. They don't ring out like a new set of strings typically do after installation. The coating seems to create a bit of drag as well not allowing your fingers to slide up and down the strings like plain steel or nickels strings would. If I wouldn't have got these strings half price I probably wouldn't have tried them at all. After reading the good reviews on these strings I can't image how any skilled player could like these things. All I can assume is that I got a bad set?

Comments about DR Strings Red Devil Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

One of my Students asked me to buy these for his Cherry Burst guitar. I had put the Black ones on another guitar and found them satisfactory. The price had come down so we put them on. We played several hours the first rehearsal and found the tone to be pretty good, however the section above the pickups where he was strumming already had the coating wore off in just hours. They are beautiful strings and don't listen to reviews that say they are not bright because they have good tone but I wish D.R. would make the coating thicker to last longer... I would give up a little tone to have the coating last longer...

Plenty of good tone for a coated string. I honestly bought them for the "Cool" factor. I really like them so far.

I bought these red strings to put on a red guitar which doesn't get much use, for their color and their coating, hoping they would stay fresh a long time. The first time I played them I realized it was a big mistake. They sound dull and muffled, and feel rough to the fingertips. They also feel tight/stiff. I put the guitar down after 10 minutes and then removed the strings. I had bought 3 sets; I returned the other two.

Put These on my Gibson Voodoo LP The red strings look great with it's Black and red finish. the tone is bright for coated strings. Only have had them a week so none of the coating has come off yet.Did a three hour jam session with my band Second Satuarday last weekend and they held tone very well. So far pleased and will purchase again

Cool Factor Yes, Quality Not So Much

These DR Strings Red Devil Medium Electric Guitar Strings have a cool factor of 5 stars. The tone sounds great. I put the strings on and unfortunately, after a three hour jam the coating started to peel off on the G and B strings where the pick connected with the strings. After a second 4 hour jam more of the coating came off. This is unacceptable and after the tone goes I will not buy these strings again.

                      Great strings!

Comments about DR Strings Red Devil Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

I've been playing 5-7 nights a week for 40 years and these are my preferred strings. The color's cool and I get comments on them all the time which is part of the fun.But more importantly ..... they hold up well and since I put 4-8 hours a day on them, durability is important to me.They cost more but they last much longer. They pretty much sound the same as the regular nickel DR's so the coating doesn't seem to affect the tone. And they absolutely don't "fall apart".

Comments about DR Strings Red Devil Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

I put these strings on my ESP Horizon and they sounded pretty cool distorted, clean, and with some mild crunch. I like these strings but there expensive just for color. There fast and smooth but the finish comes off easily when you string it. Just be careful when you put them on a guitar with Floyd.
