DR Strings

The sound is loud and warm.

Gauges 12, 16, 24, 32, 42, 54.

Rare Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Strings are a departure from the standard, good quality bronze string currently available -- not necessarily better, but possessing a new, different, and stronger voice. Hand-carved archtops, dreadnoughts, and good steel string acoustic guitars of rosewood, maple, and mahogany benefit from a distinct improvement in tone, depth, and sustain with a fatter, louder sound and a deeper bottom.

I've been using DR's for over 20 years now and they still do not disappoint. Many people say they are cheap and don't sound as D'addario or other brands, but you can tell what those peoples opinion is worth when they mispronounce D'addario hehe.

People complain these are too warm of a sound, well duh. You have to pick the correct set if you want a brighter sound or a warmer sound. That's why there are different models.

I will leave saying this... I've played more shows than most people have ever picked up a guitar. Just like any other strings, you should wipe them off quick when you're done playing, and they will last just as long and longer than coated strings. The sustain and tone is way better than any other brand.

Last.... I have NEVER broken a DR string... EVER. Not when playing, not when stringing, NEVER. I can't tell you before I found DR's how many time I broke a string doing a bend during a live show, or even how many breaks I've seen my students have when using a different brand.

DR's are just the best, until I find something better, DR holds the crown.

I bought a beautiful Guild d-40 that had DR rare's 12-54 on it. I really liked the tone and the owner told me he just put them on the day before. The strings had that good tone for about 3 day's or let's say 6 hours and then they sounded lifeless, dull, flat. I wanted to love these strings because they felt so nice in my hands so I bought some more from MF and the brand new strings out of the package had black spots up and down the string and they were dead immediately, I had to cut the brand new strings off and put on another set of ole standby strings. I hear they are handmade which made me immediately think they took great pride in these strings but out of my 2 experiences/3 different sets and completely different batches of strings I have to say they are very inconsistent and I wouldn't be buying anymore unless I hear they have taken care of these issues. I researched them after my issue and apparently this is common when talking DR strings. I want to like them because they did feel great and sounded nice that very first set but I need consistency with my tone.

i've been using these strings for years. i like the way they sound after they're "broke in". the wound third string doesn't sound dead. just the brand that i prefer. i put the same gauge on my electric as well however the low e string is a bit lighter. priced right for what i use them for.

Comments about DR Strings RPM-12 RARE Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I've played many different acoustic strings. D'addario exp, multiple dean markley's, Ernie ball earth wood and coated slinky, Martin, Gibson, elixir, and a few custom string compamies. The only strings I've ever really had a problem with we're Dean Markley mtiple times. While I've usually have always stuck to exp's or the newer coated slinky I've never tried DR's. well the local shop was out of the slinky so I picked up a pack of these and man are they nice. They play just as smooth as a coated string yet still allow unbelievable binding while losing no speed with sliding. They bend with almost ease. But what I really enjoyed was the tone of these. It's a bit elixir like in standard E tuning, but my band plays a half step down and it was perfect. I didn't care much for the standard tune as I'm not big on the way elixir'ssound. But if that's your thing and you have trouble bending elixir's grab these. Keep them wiped down after sessions and you should get a good bit of time out of them. Quality stuff here. Not sure it will be a go to, but definitely one of my favorites in terms of acoustic. DR's quality shatters the likes of Dean Markley and all other phosphor bronze strings. My playing style hits a lot of natural harmonics(if thats what its called on an acoustic)when I pick a real unique feature to my playing I take Pride in. t's something I can't do with just anything string. These show it more than I've ever seen.

These strings sounded and looked great on the first day. I had to adjust my neck which was a real bummer. So after I adjust my neck and played with them for an hour, I thought I had found my new favorite strings. I picked up my guitar on the next day, and the strings had corroded. You could see and feel how dirty the strings were. I tried to use an alternate tuning where the G string has to go up to an A and my string snapped. I was really disappointed after reading all the good reviews on here. I would not recommend these strings.

I let the hype here help me to purchase 2 sets of these.
I perform 6 shows a week using one set of GHS s325's after 2 shows with the DR's they are coming off my RS-6. they corrode easy and because of the "Lower Tension" claimed here they require a neck relief adjustment so they don't buzz, which I experienced in the middle of the fretboard especially on the G string.
I realize a lot about the string you use is subjective but I won't use these again except in extreme emergency. Back to My GHS S325 which I have been using for a couple of years now.
I apologize to all you folks here who like these. I just don't see it.

DR Rares will bring your guitar back to life. They will bring out a rich full tone, resonance, and sustain to the maximum your guitar is capable of. I've tried many other brands but in terms of tone, volume and playability these strings are unbeatable. I highly recommend them.

I've tried almost every brand that I know of and I always come back to these. I love them. The lower tension makes them easier to play than other 12's that I've used.
