Comments about DR Strings Sunbeams NMR-45 Medium 4-String Bass Strings:

I just recently began experimenting with different string sets on my american standard p bass w/maple fretboard and gave thee a try based on a friends recommendation. They definitely had great bottom end, but felt hard under my fingers. They were definitely not as silky in feel as the rotosound nickels i have been playing. I prefer a slightly warmer string but not as warm as flats. These had a good full tone but lacked a bit of mid range that I really like. They had a bit too much top end for me all in all. You could definitely hear the dr quality and this set of strings was as well made as all of the other dr strings I have tried they just were not the sound I was after. I really like that motown, blues/classic rock tone and these were a bit tinny in the top end for me. If you already use these and are looking for something with a bit of a waker/smoother vibe then try the rotosound nickel on steel 45-105. These are a fantastic sounding modern string and are perfect for alternative/modern rock and metal in my opinion.

Comments about DR Strings Sunbeams NMR-45 Medium 4-String Bass Strings:

Last two sets I've installed were for comparison of string type and behavior. First was flat wounds. Even with treble boost, they do not provide a clear tone. Bad instrument intonation setting reveals a lot of trouble. Next set was ground wounds or half rounds. Clearer tone, fair at holding consistent, but not good enough. Sunbeams are remarkable in several ways. Clear tone and pitch (non-wavering to the ear), but more importantly once they have been set for intonation, they are stable. With adequate EQ setting they produce a low 'growl' effect great for rock and/or many other purposes. This string does a fine job of clear sustain on notes held for effect. The round core sure makes a difference in total sound production quality versus hex core strings... at least for most all playing styles.

Comments about DR Strings Sunbeams NMR-45 Medium 4-String Bass Strings:

For the longest time (since I first bought it many years ago), I have been using Rotosounds on my 4003. Now don't get me wrong, I love Rotosounds but these strings really improved the tone of my bass over the RS66s. The Sunbeams have low tension compared to other strings (perhaps too low for some) but this really allows you to coax a wider variety of tones from your instrument. If you play soft, they are very mellow and warm but dig in hard and they get a snappy/funky attack. These are especially nice for fretless because the more you dig in the more "mwah" you get.

For a brighter/aggressive sounding bass (such as the 4001/3) these strings really keep the highs from becoming harsh while still retaining enough high-range character to cut through the mix. Similarly, finger noise is greatly reduced with these strings compared to stainless steel or even other nickel strings. I am not a big slap bass player, but I have to imagine these would be great for that play style as well for the aforementioned reasons.

I have not been using these long enough to really speak as to how long they last but they are relatively inexpensive for bass strings so I doubt that would be a big issue. I will say I have been using mine heavily for about three weeks and they still sound great.

These are absolutely worth checking out.

shine beams of sun on your bass

Comments about DR Strings Sunbeams NMR-45 Medium 4-String Bass Strings:

i have recently purchased a vintage Gibson Thunderbird IV (1977) but i hated the strings on it (D'addario ML's) so they threw in a free set of bass strings and i chose these because i had used dr strings before and i really like the sound of them. + they were nickel. I put them on my bass and they sounded amazing. the highs were great but it wasn't too high and the tone is awesome. worth the money (but i didn't pay anything hehe). the one thing i kind of dont like is that they sound more modern and i have a vintage instrument, but thats just me. so if you want good quality of strings by these (or any other dr strings)

shine beams of sun on your bass

Comments about DR Strings Sunbeams NMR-45 Medium 4-String Bass Strings:

I have recently bought a 1977 vintage gibson thunderbird IV. Problem is i DO NOT like the strings that were on it (D'ardario XL's 45-100) i have never liked D'ardario so i wanted different strings. I had put DR strings on my previous bass and liked the sound of them so i got these for the main reason beacause they are my favorite gauges and they were nickel. these strings sound amazing and i love the highs.

        Mike Gordon sound

        By Precision70

Comments about DR Strings Sunbeams NMR-45 Medium 4-String Bass Strings:

If you own a G&L and want to recreate Mike Gordon's sound, this is it. High output, Very prominent Lows and mids but the hights are somehow limited which I love. Highs are edgy but at a lower frequency then a High Beam or d'Addario XL. The average frequency range is more in the range of Erni Ball Flatwond but with a very prominent high mid growl/zing and tghe usual warmth of Nickel strings. This is a modern tone string, and as far is it could be from vintage. It works great with modern basses such as G&L or everything that was inspifed from G&L such as Modulus or Schecter. High output, well defined full sound, not scooped like the DR High Beam, Huge bottom, aggressive in the mids and mid highs, awesome with a pick. Also great with delicate finger playing, because it will sound huge and detailed. Not so great with heavy finger playing, it saturates my G&L right away. For heavy finger playing, I prefer d'Addario XL for nickel tone, cause they are brighter and a bit scooped.

        I really like these

Comments about DR Strings Sunbeams NMR-45 Medium 4-String Bass Strings:

These strings are great, I was turned on to them by my instructor. They are the warmest sounding bright strings that ive ever heard, not tin sounding like the other bright strings I've tried. It is a shame that there are not too many shops who carry these. Order a pack and try for yourself. You wont be dissapointed.
