Zebra acoustic-electric guitar strings from DR Strings work great for acoustic-electric guitars with piezo pickups under the bridge or magnetic pickups in the soundhole. Zebras also work for full-size archtop guitars, which respond to Zebras with richer tones. Any amplified acoustic guitar comes alive when you put on Zebra strings. Revolutionary design you can see--every other coil is nickel-plated steel, every other coil is rare phosphor bronze, and both are wound on round cores.

    Disappointing strings....

Comments about DR Strings Zebra Medium Acoustic-Electric Guitar Strings:

I've been playing for about 17 years. I normally use Martin Marquis strings. Whenever I go out on a limb and try a different type of strings it seems that I always compare them to my "benchmark" strings, Martin Marquis. The DR Zebra Strings do not compare at all. The 5th (A) string and 6th (E) string were especially bad. They did not have much of any kind of tone; they just kinda went "thud". Forget about sustain! They didn't work any kind of wonders with my piezo pickup, either. This is what I really wanted to try them for. I play through a high quality sound system every week and I'm always looking for anything that will push the quality of my sound higher. I thought that this was a good thing to try, so I did. I won't buy these again. I'll stick to my Marquis.

Comments about DR Strings Zebra Medium Acoustic-Electric Guitar Strings:

I recently purchased a Gretsch archtop with a floating single coil, and like many, I am trying to find a string that balances the acoustic and electric tone. These strings sound great acoustically, but the volume is not consistent across all strings when plugged in. The non-wound strings (E and B) are considerably louder than the wound strings, which is quite noticeable when playing leads. I think these strings would respond better to a piezo pickup. I am going to try them out on my Taylor dread.
As for the archtop, the search continues. I just ordered some GHS White Bronze which are supposed to get a little more magnetic response on the lower strings without losing the acoustic tone. I will report back with my findings.

on my Taylor 214. I had a friend give me a set and didn't really notice they were meant to be used on an acoustic-electric. They sound great on the Taylor though.

Comments about DR Strings Zebra Medium Acoustic-Electric Guitar Strings:

I purchased these for use on my Epi John Lennon EJ-160. I found that bronze acoustic strings sounded pretty good with the solid top but were really weak and thin with the pickup. Maybe there wasn't enough magnetic material in the string composition. If I used electric strings, the acoustic sound wasn't very good even though the pickup sounded better (Lennon used electric strings?). With these strings the nickel windings beef up the electric sound and the bronze windings work well for acoustic playing.

For me, the hybrid approach of these strings works really well on that guitar. I have several acoustic flat tops, one with an under-saddle piezo and preamp. I haven't tried these on any of my other acoustics, so I can't review the performance on those instruments.

They might be worth a try...

Comments about DR Strings Zebra Medium Acoustic-Electric Guitar Strings:

I bought these for my Hamer Duotone. It uses a rosewood acoustic-style bridge with a piezo pickup on a thinline body fitted with two humbuckers like an electric. It's a pretty cool guitar. I thought that these hybrid strings would be perfect for my hybrid guitar, but I was wrong. They don't work well enough with the humbuckers. The steel B and E strings are significantly louder than the wound strings. The nickel winds on these strings help, but not enough. It's not as bad as if you put all bronze strings on there (those have terrible results with regular electric guitar pickups), but it's just not good enough. I'll have to go back to nickel-wound strings.

        • Old Cheap Acoustic I Had

Comments about DR Strings Zebra Medium Acoustic-Electric Guitar Strings:

Had an old 3/4 sized acoustic, put new Ping tuners, installed a Gibson P-90 with volume, tone etc. Had Silk and steel acoustics on it, sounded great acoustically, but not so good electrically. changed to the DR Zebra at the suggestion of my local luthier...What a huge difference!! Highly recommended!
