A pickup configured to deliver the natural sound of any acoustic bass or cello.
The D-TAR Bass Soundspot Pickup faithfully delivers the deep, rich sound of any acoustic bass or cello. Simply place the Soundspot Pickup in one of the bridge cutouts to capture all nuances of your instrument. SoundSpots are ultra-sensitive transducer pickups suitable for stringed and non-stringed acoustic and ethnic instruments.
Unlike other "dot-type" transducer pickups, each SoundSpot piezo crystal pickup is hand ground to extremely fine tolerances. This process, along with the selection of materials, yields a pickup with a very thin surface that maintains its strength and flexibility. The result is a transducer that is ultra-sensitive to an bass or cello's surface vibrations and, therefore, is extremely natural and warm sounding.
D-TAR - Duncan/Turner Acoustic Research
Seymour Duncan and Rick Turner are two legends who spent years working with musicians, perfecting their tone. Seymour founded his self-named company in 1978 which has become well-known for its wide variety of guitar and bass pickups used by just about every name player from Billie Joe Armstrong to Angus Young. Rick co-founded Alembic, was president of Gibson Labs West Coast R&D Division, co-founded Highlander Musical Audio making piezo acoustic guitar pickups for Lindsay Buckingham, Ry Cooder, David Lindley, and Andy Summers, and runs his own Renaissance Guitars. Now Seymour and Rick are working together to create innovative products for acoustic musicians. Their D-TAR motto: "With respect to acoustic tone."

Comments about Dtar Bass Soundspot Pickup:
The DTAR Soundspot is a great pickup. I've used the bass soundspot for about a year now. In the past I've used a Upton Revolution Solo and a K&K Rockabilly set-up. This one has been my favorite. It's easy to install. You just stick it in your bridge and then clamp the output jack to your strings. Then you are good to go. You will need to use it with a preamp. It CAN be used without a preamp, but it just has no headroom without a preamp. I combine it with a Fishman Pro-EQ Platinum Bass Preamp and I think they sound great together. I kind of wish they made a version with two pickup so you could mount it on both the treble and bass side for a more balanced sound, but it sounds pretty good just mounted on the bass side. I like the DTAR because it's simple to use and sounds great. I also use a DTAR soundspot pickup in my bodhran (Irish hand drum) and it sounds fantastic there too. I just like this pickup and I think for the price and ease of use it cannot be beat.
I play bow, hands, and rockabilly slap and it works well for all three.
