The slipperiness that comes with wear takes some getting used to, but the fantastic sweetness of tone more than makes up for it. If the slippery feeling is too much of a nuisance, using a thinner pick helps offset this (the thicker the pick, the more it slips). Be prepared to turn up the mids if you opt for a thinner pick, though. The 2mm thickness is best if you want maximum tonal evenness, as is learning to hold the pick sideways and playing with the shoulder to maximize speed and precision.

The tone and tone-memory is the most amazing feature of this pick. My playing style requires precision, tonal clarity and nerve-wracking screaminess, and the delrin material delivers. It's nerve-jarring without being unpleasant to the ears. Unlike other materials, you get maximum tone from delrin, and the tone becomes more even with wear; I play with my EQ flat, and it sounds like I have my mids and highs cranked. Great, compressed attack sound, even with a soft touch. The only thing I think Dunlop could improve on is making a line of their smallest, round-tipped jazz picks (the 204) with this material.

Tip: wash your hands and the pick before playing to get rid of the slipperiness that comes from oil buildup.
Made of Delrin, a plastic-rubber hybrid. Standard-shaped pick, slightly smaller than a standard-shaped Fender or Clayton. Smooth, glossy surface, as compared to Tortex or the matt-finish gator grips or jazztones.
These picks last. They lose their initial sharpness after a few days, but the screamy, midrangey tone lasts. I've heard from some that they only last them 3 days, but I pick with the rounded shoulder part instead of the tip, which makes any standard pick last a lot longer.

The edge smooths out at about the same rate any other similar pick, but unlike other materials, they don't lose their essential midrange tone. I can use one of these as a practice pick for a month, and that's for playing bass. I was using gator grips and jazztones before, but compared to the raspy, harsh tone of the gators and jazztones, these deliver a more creamy, screamy sound once the initial sharpness is worn off. I could use one with weeks of wear on it live, and no one would know the difference unless I switched to a new pick.

Tip: for live perfomance, use one with a day or two of wear on it if you plan on doing pinch harmonics on wound strings, otherwise the sharp edge will catch on the windings too much to get the desired squeal.
I find more value in these picks than those made from any other material. Despite the tendency to get slippery from oily fingers, the tonal qualities and lasting tone-memory give these picks more bang for the buck than other similarly priced picks, or even expensive boutique picks. All picks lose their edge at about the same rate, no matter what material is used or what the manufacturer claims; the difference is in how well these hold a clear and pleasant tone, no matter worn down.

Comments about Dunlop Delrin Standard Guitar Pick:

I got a dozen purple 2mm Delrin picks in Nov 1987. I am still using the first pick out of the bag. After hundreds of gigs/hours played the pick is worn but totally functional. There are notches in the side from pick slides but the point is sharp. I've not found a pick to replace it. I use the 2mm for electric and bass guitar. For acoustic and classical guitar I use a Delrin 1.5mm. It is amazing what a difference a pick can make to overall tone. These are my favorites. The Delrin may be a little hard to hold on to and hard to find on a dark stage floor but my 1987 2mm is now an heirloom.

I can play with anything, but I need consistency, speed and good tone.I use the 2.0 mm. I once bought a guitar from what was a friend at the time, and in the guitar case in the the strings by the nut .That is where he kept his picks was one 2.0 mm.I remembered he once told me these were faster than the nylon Claytons I was using.I thought yeah right.so in my quest for another speed.I gave it a try, I took almost a week for it to feel normal,But I never looked back.I never occurde to me that a pick would drag. These are liked there lubed. That was seven years ago.I also had to know what Durlan was made of. Search it online. They make gears and bearings from it, it's one of the toughest plastics made.Good job Dunlop!

Comments about Dunlop Delrin Standard Guitar Pick:

These are just as good as any picks but more fun to look at. I like having more than one gauge. I recommend buying at least two different sizes. They are slippery so if that's not your thing you can just try one pack. I like the the thin .50mm and the extra heavy 2.0 mm.

feel great. i have been using them since the mid eighties. under aggressive playing, the tip can round the point off. i guess that can happen to any pick. i have used the .96 - 2.0mm's for many years, and many hours of use. i can't recall ever breaking one. i have tried many others but, these are the only picks i have used for 20 some years.

Comments about Dunlop Delrin Standard Guitar Pick:

For those who like THICK picks in a standard shape but refuse to pay ridiculous prices for boutique picks, this a great choice.

The 2.0mm is plenty thick enough to hammer Gypsy Jazz arpeggios into oblivion.

The soft material provides solid fundamental tone with a nice balance of highs and mids. Of course you will notice that more with a clean tone or with acoustic guitars. If you only play with mega-stuper-gain, you might need a thinner crispier pick. Crazy distortion obscures all such subtleties.

Because of the material and manufacturing method, these have a tiny but perceptible parting-seam around the edges. That quickly wears away with a few minutes warm-up on scales, strumming or arpeggios. Once the edge is broken in, these are smooth and consistent. You could lightly groom them with your fancy nail-file. That works too.

As others have noted, these have two minor problems:
1-The material can be slippery which makes it hard to grip
                          2 -The material wears easily.

Here are the fixes for both those problems.

If you wash them in a dishwasher (no kidding) they lose that shiny slippery surface texture! You can also lightly sand the grip portion with sandpaper or carefully score that area with a file. Either way, washing with detergent really helps. I've tried all those methods and they all work. Also, if you really want secure grip on these (or any other pick for that matter) just drill a 1/4" hole in the center.

The wearing problem is usually only noticeable for those who do long string-scratches or scratch-effects. If that's part of your art, then you can choose another pick that's more durable or expendable. You could also just scratch on the round edge and not worry about it. If you sometimes catch an edge because of poor technique (or being drunk) you can refresh and smooth the edge with a common padded nail file. Because these are soft, that takes only a few seconds.

The Uber Talented & highly experienced Brian Lemert showed me another trick I had not seen before. If your pick suddenly develops a funky gnarly edge while you're on stage, you can swipe that pick against those carpet-covered cabinets a few times. It's like a hand-powered buffing-wheel and it works in seconds! That's Old School Babe!

I hope those tips help you and save you some money. These really are worth a try if you want a thick pick in a standard teardrop shape.

I have used Delrin Standard Picks for many years. The quality and tone they generate are my favorite reason for using them. I rated them at 4 stars. I did not give them 5 stars as they deserve because of one thing. I did not order "Pink" picks. The website did not give the option of which color to choose. I received my picks in timely fashion. The only complaint I have is that the pink picks must not have sold very well and someone in the order fulfillment department must have made a command decision to remedy that starting with my order. I will use the picks because they are great, but I did not appreciate getting pink picks when I would have preferred another color if given the option. Please add a color preference menu to the site and I think that will please many purchasers including me.

I have tried all picks and I have always come back home to the Dunlop Delrin picks. I have mostly used the 1.14mm thickness. I love the thick sound they produce through my electric guitar as well as the instantly "thump" feel through my strings and fingers.

As I said before I really like these picks and have played live with them a couple times (I have only had them a couple of weeks). My only concern is if my hand get really sweaty, these may slip out of my hand very easily... I won't know until that day comes, but they could be sanded at the top to prevent this?
I love the feel of the 2.0 picks...I thought they might be too thick, but they give a lot of control.
                              The design is great.
18 bucks for 6 dozen? No brainer!
