Extensive engineering and critical road testing by Zakk himself perfected an electric guitar string formula to work under the heaviest hands in rock. Zakk Wylde Signature Strings were designed around Dunlop High Tension technology with a bulked-up core wire for less breakage, long-life, and better definition and pitch retention at lowered tunings. I see some people saying that they use these for E std and Eb tunings. Zakk doesnt even use this gauge for std tunings. He tunes a whole step down for this gauge and he uses 52-10 in E std. These strings are way too huge for std tuning unless you have Hulk fingers or enjoy tendonitis. I find the 60 to be overkill unless you are tuning down to C or below and still want to have seriously low action. I play in C# with 52-10 with normal action and have no buzzing problems. Tony Iommi plays C# with 42s and he practically invented that tuning. Overall they are great strings though as are all Dunlop products.

first off don't play these in standard you could risk ruining your guitar! I haven't but I don't want anyone to. If you've played regular heavy cores these seem like a 10-52 set on steroids, the sound is slightly different as would any signature set from regular strings I mean nickle is nickle and so forth right, its not as diverse as an alder vs poplar bodied guitar. The fact its a 52 for your A string is overkill I might change it how much I hate it, thats 36-42 territory at most without getting into 13-56 sets. after buying these get a set up done! how extreme these strings are you'll need it to play properly and some people may need to file their guitars nut to get the last 2 strings in (easy work). They will last a rediculiously long time if you're the kind of person who changes strings when they break, I've had strings in or around the 60 area last me 3-5 months of abuse playing 2 hours give or take a day when I was 18 or so. The out of the pack sound is not overwhelmingly bright or anything and if you tune to C# and below get these if you're playing in standard with these unless you got a les paul like Zakk where the tailpiece is higher than the bridge you're just begging for your knuckles to flare up and so forth, go with the 10-46 set if you want to tune to standard these would even feel thick on a baritone guitar I think because no matter how thick of a string if you want to seriously tune low buy a baritone guitar instead.

honestly I like the regular heavy cores more ,I mean sure this is what Zakk wanted out of his tone and so forth but TO ME the regular heavy cores where better I couldn't care less about pricing they're an amazing brand and seriously it could be worse like buying Elixers. The high E required extra stretching but no problems whatsoever afterwards I've got a great set of tuners so it was the strings fault. Even if you're not a fan of Zakks get these if every penny counts and you've played at least a year wanting something that'll last a long time between allowances or whatever, but if you're a fan and can afford new strings constantly go with his 10-46 set because the heavy set is for low tunings

Comments about Dunlop Zakk Wylde Icon Series Custom Electric Guitar Strings:

Great strings! They stay in near perfect tune for a long while. The only downside is, you'll most likely have to block your trem (if your guitar has a trem), because the tension will pull the trem up. They are also fabulous strings for any drop tuning you can imagine. I definitely would recommend to any one who plays metal guitar.

Comments about Dunlop Zakk Wylde Icon Series Custom Electric Guitar Strings:

I bought these strings when I got my Zakk Wylde Les Paul. I'm going to tell you right now, that if you play in any kind of standard or drop D standard that you will most likely mess up your guitar to get these strings tuned to it. I put them on and had to carve out the nut for the 6th string (.60) and the 5th (.52). I stopped at the 5th string because I tuned the 6th and it was just at C# and it already felt way too tense. and once i saw that you had to carve out the 5th string nut i stopped and figured it wasnt worth it. i got the dunlop zakk wylde medium strings and they are fine. but i wouldnt advise anybody to use these unless you play in seriously low tunings like c or b.

i just received these strings, and they give a beefy crunch to anything you can fathom. but beware, you will need a nut on your guitar with a hefty groove for the low E or else you can crack the nut just by tuning the guitar.

Comments about Dunlop Zakk Wylde Icon Series Custom Electric Guitar Strings:

Ok, I made a review earlier on these strings under "great pick". Nothings changed except a few minor adjustments... I love these strings mainly because they bring so much life to my Marshall amp !! Anyway to get to the point I do play these a hald step down from standard Eb, however I also play alot in "D" and and some in "C"... Now if your haveing intonation issues with these and action issues as well, remember that if you make adjustments it takes a couple weeks for the guitar to settle... As long as your 12th fret harmonics sound and tune to the same or around the same cents on a tuner your ok as far as intonation.. I did have to raise the action a bit but now that things are settled down these strings have found a perminent home for good !!! They are a great pick for the serious musician who wants more from they're tone!! And to beat it all Musicians Friend does have the better deal on these strings from anywhere I've seen thus far !!!

I bought 2 packs of these and set them up on my Gibson SG in D standard. I wouldn't suggest these for E or Eb tuning. D standard or drop C tuning is what they were designed for on a short scale length guitar (24 3/4") like a Gibson. On the treble strings, the 10s are really effortless to shred on. You can get great vibrato and bends. The lower strings are monstrous. From what I've experienced, they don't have a super tight sound. More of a thick sound. Heavy for riffs! Super ballsy strings. The quality of the strings are great too. They each come individually wrapped. You'll barely have to ever change them.

The quality of these strings are phenomenal. BUT unless you're playing standard B tuning or Dropped C-flat [half a step BELOW Dropped C] I really don't recommend these. They're just too thick. I had these on for about a week and just wasn't pleased. But if you need extremely low gauge strings then go for it.

I started using Zakk Wylde strings a few years ago when they were still being made by GHS. I got them because I was playing in a metal band at the time and wanted heavy strings for the low tuning we used. Previously I had used D'addario and Ernie Ball heavy bottom light top strings, and even Ernie Ball Not Even Slinkys, but the Zakk Wyldes blow them all away. Eventually I quit the metal band and tuned back up to standard, and they still work fine. I would recommend these for almost any style of music. They last forever too. I can't remember the last time I broke a string or changed any and they still sound great. I'll never go back to the other brands.

Well, I spent quite a bit of time on the net looking to see if I could even fit these on my guitar. I went to several music shops and they all said that, I would need to take my guitar in to get it "set up" for those strings. I thought it was bogus, so I got em, slapped em on, got blown away. I checked the intonation, it was fine. All of a sudden my 12" speaker met its match. Amazing bass that you can feel, and a screaming top end. It doesn't matter what style you play, these strings will add so much more feeling to your sound. Those big fat strings will start to create some sort of overtones that sound almost unreal. If you have a regular hard-tail and can fit these string in your guitar, I would highly recommend it.

I ordered two sets of strings, and on both sets the nickel coating was already worn of on the non-wound strings. Maybe I just got a bad batch but watch out. I just decided to go to the local shop and pick up some 10s and replaced the first three strings, only leaving the heavy gauge wound strings, which is why anyone buys this set anyways.

Ok, these are just a beefier versoin of 10's. The only difference is that the low E and A strings are thicker... WAY THICKER. The reason being is so that it does snap back alot faster. Also adds a natural chunky bottom to your tone. These even work in standard tunings as long as you have a PROFESSIONAL set-up done to it, which you should be doing anyway if you are a serious musician. I however tune down one whole step in my band, so they loosen up quite a bit.

These are among, if not, the best strings I've ever used. they're really thick which some people complain about, but the thickness makes them easy to string up and gives them great tone. They're great for metal, especially if you play in drop tunings alot, and they cost about half of what most good guitar strings cost, so to put it simply, buy these and forget the rest. Trust me I've tried them all and there really isn't anything out there that stands up to these in terms of all features.

I decided to switch these out with some .052-.010 strings on a guitar I have in B standard tuning. I opted to use the 3rd and 2nd string of this set on the 2nd and 1st string to retain enough tension. The guitar is made of basswood so it had a somewhat flimsy tone. These strings beefed up the tone and added some volume to the guitar as well. They sound better than the strings I originally had on it. The heavy core of the bottom three strings is what gives the strings such a beefy tone. At that tuning the tension is like that of light or medium gauge strings at standard tuning. The extra tension helps for palm muting and tremelo picking as well. Howeverm, the only complaint that I have is when I readjusted the intonation, I could not get it the way it should be, but chords sound in tune.
