OVERVIEW

Classic balance and flexible feel make this nylon-strap-drive kick pedal the right choice.

The DW Drums 6000 Series Nylon Strap Single Kick Drum Pedal is based on DW's original 5000 radius rod and nylon-strap-cam system. The drum pedal perfectly compliments retro-styled DW 6000 Series hardware. In addition to the radius rod base, the DW 600 drum pedal is fitted with a bearing spring rocker assembly, dual-adjustable toe clamp, and the Delta Ball-Bearing Hinge, a state-of-the-art lightweight aluminum design that incorporates ball bearings at both sides.

The flexibility and relaxed feel of DW's nylon-strap-drive system offers a classic balance and fast, fluid, floating response that continues to make it the favorite of many traditional and contemporary drummers.

Comments about DW 6000 Series Nylon Strap Single Bass Drum Pedal:

I play principally jazz and Christian contemporary music in a church orchestra and with the Christian Motorcycle Association Praise Team. I perform weekly and with the CMA Praise Team we gig a lot so I was looking for a pedal that was lighter and more compact to carry than my DW 9000. I also like a strap drive for the feel and the types of music we play, I have in fact converted my 9000 to a strap drive for those reasons. The 6000 strap dive model adequately answers all needs as it is very light and extremely compact. It appears to be a "parts bin" engineered pedal as the footboard and heel plate are right off the 5000 pedal, but the uprights, bearings and cam rod are obviously 3000 pieces. It is surprisingly stable with the radius rods so DW has done a good job mixing the various bits and pieces. The cam is designed for a strap and is quite different in shape and curvature from the other 6000 chain drive versions. There in is the problem. The problem I encountered which caused me to have to return this pedal is probably unique to the configuration of my kick drum. I play a DW Performance 18" kick that has the DW drum lifter installed. The lifter allows the pedal to have a full arc and the beater to strike the batter head more squarely and closer to the center of the head. To accomplish this the front of the pedal is positioned quite a bit closer to the batter head than if the pedal is simply clamped to the kick drum hoop. This is were the problem lies, the aggressive curvature of the cam for the strap is placed too close to the head and actually impacts it through most of the stroke and would eventually wear through the head. I believe this condition is unique to a configuration using the DW lifter and radius relieved hoop on an 18" kick and would not be a concern with a 20" or larger diameter kick drum as the pedal clamps to the hoop in those cases. Reluctantly I had to return this pedal as I really wanted to be able to use it for gigging.

Comments about DW 6000 Series Nylon Strap Single Bass Drum Pedal:

I'm a long time bass player just starting to learn drums. Originally I picked up a 6000 Turbo to compliment the 6000 Ultra Light Hardware and Hat Stands for a vintage style drum set. However, I felt that the chain and sprocket were pretty wimpy, the pedal board wandered side to side, the sprocket hit the toe end of my boot, and I just didn't like the sound I was getting. I exchanged it for the Nylon Strap Version which I am very happy with so far. The wider strap keeps the pedal much more stable, and the pedal has a lighter feel - making triplets and quads very easy to execute. The tone I can get out of this pedal is much warmer and has more depth than the Turbo, which was more choked, and well defined. This version is also nearly identical to the old Gretsch Floating Action and Camco pedals, and it just "feels right" compared tot he Turbo.
