Comments about DW Incremental Clutch w/Attachment:

Very functional, a real alternative to all the other x-hat systems. Sturdy and perfectly manufactured. Allow you to adjust the tension of your upper cymbal easily and securely. I've owned a Mapex attachment, but sold it within weeks. I'm very pleased with the DW.

      • Remote Hi-hat No Pedal

Comments about DW Incremental Clutch w/Attachment:

Great concept for needs of remote dummy Hi-Hat.
Allows precise and variable spacing between Hi-Hats on the fly. It also includes the customary tilting screw for bottom hat cymbal adjustments underneath.

      * Important modification*
This mount comes with two large diameter felts for the bottom hat. I found this product works much better if you replace one of the large diameter felts with a typical small diameter hi- hat felt for the inside of the bottom hat between the cymbal and the nut you screw down to tighten the bottom hat. (Use a felt about the same as the supplied felts for the top hat).
Use the included large felt for the underside of the bottom hat as customary.

I found that using the small felt on the inside of the bottom hat allows it to wobble more freely with each stick impact. If you commonly go for a loose sound for your remote hat, this detail is critical.
Mounting of the top hat seems to work fine in the customary way with the supplied small felts.

You're not going to see much (if any) rod sticking out of the top of the apparatus, so don't be alarmed.

The best way I've found for set-up is as follows:
Lower top hat over vertical rod and rest fully onto bottom hat
Put the black handle at 1 o'clock position and the silver tightening bolt opposite at the 9 o'clock position. Lift top hat and tighten silver bolt onto rod in what you want as your highest position.
To slowly lower the top hat downward closer to the bottom hat...rotate the black handle clockwise to the fully lowered 5 o'clock position.

If you don't have everything too loose, you should be able to turn the black handle clockwise with the right hand only....if you leverage the motion with your right thumb on the center rod clamp.

Regardless of the tight tolerances that make this product a little tough to install for personal preferences, I still love this concept.

This product finally allows for precise adjustment of distance between hats WITHOUT unscrewing the mounting bolt and lifting the hat up slightly to change the distance between them.

The old way was not precise and caused undue damage to the upright rod from repeated changes.
Now all you have to do is turn the black handle clock wise to lower...and counter-clockwise to raise.

Comments about DW Incremental Clutch w/Attachment:

Interesting device. I got this based on a DW video showing all their new components. I only wanted the incremental clutch to use with my DW 5000 Hi-Hat, but MF only carried the model with the accessory Hi-Hat attachment. The idea was to be able to rapidly change the spacing of your Hat cymbals from tight to loose with graduations in between or with the accessory attachment have an additional pair of Hat cymbals on a stand that could be switched between tight and loose. In this configuration it seems to work as advertised, but on my DW 5000 Hat it did not make any difference. As I experimented with it I discovered that it matters significantly as to how you have your Hat cymbals set in the clutch. If you have the upper cymbal set snuggly between the felts on the clutch then the incremental feature works quite nicely, but if you have the upper cymbal set to a looser configuration for instance to play washy style for jazz or swing the incremental feature does not work as even in the tightest setting the cymbals are still washy and loose. So bottom line if you don't mind having the top Hat cymbal tight in the clutch this will work fine. If you plan to use it with an additional pair of hats then the whole combination functions as designed.
