Comments about El Dorado Hand-Tooled Strat Pickguard:
The installation of this pickguard is not for the faint of heart nor type a personalities. You have to really think a few steps ahead through the process and not be afraid to alter a 119 dollar part. Some trimming, enlarging the pot cutouts, and steady patience is required. Also, make sure you purchase a pickguard shielding of some sort. Fender makes one for a 62 strat that is available from Musicians Friend in the pickguard section. That is what I used and it worked great. Once installed it looks absolutely fantastic. I put the dark brown one on my sunburst Roadworn Strat and now it reeks of "Cowboy Cool".
Comments about El Dorado Hand-Tooled Strat Pickguard:
This pickguard is an amazing alternative to the normal, mainstream pickguards that everyone else buys. I own an American Standard Strat, Olympic White, and have been looking to find something that would set my Strat apart from all the rest. I've finally done that! It does take some work to install, but I did it on my own, and it's fine. You need a leather punch to do it right, and I suggest using clamps to clamp it on your stock pickguard as a guide. It's now installed and looks wonderful! It isn't plastic like the first reviewer said, rather it's made of SADDLE GRADE LEATHER (which means it's durable). It takes a little work to install properly, but it's well worth every penny and every minute of labor I've had to spend! Great buy! (By the way, I am in no way affiliated with El Dorado, I'm merely an enthusiastic customer!)
Comments about El Dorado Hand-Tooled Strat Pickguard:
I recieved this pick guard a few days back. I took it out of the box and was not impressed with it at all. It feels like a big piece of plastic. The leather can't be real. I don't recommend it! When i was putting it on I had to file down the hole for the volume and tone knobs and that was on my American Strat! It is very cheap and doesn't fit well around the neck. It also made may tone control move roughly! you have to screw your own hole in it through what seems bullet proof plastic. I'm sending mine back as soonas possible. READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU MAKE MY MISTAKE!!!!
Comments about El Dorado Hand-Tooled Strat Pickguard:
Prepare to spend some time installing this baby. It is not for the novice. Have a luthier install it unless you really know what you are doing. The holes are not pre-drilled, so you must line them up correctly. The holes for the pickups are pre-drilled but they did not match perfectly. The pickups are a VERY TIGHT FIT. Once I got the guitar back from the shop, the leather pickup guard looked great. The manufacture did a good job on the tooling and once in installed it is stunning and feels good. The price is too high, and you do not have a 2nd chance if you misalign the screws. The leather is stiff at first but should loosen up. It is purely a vanity thing to have something different.
