I don't know why these got a 3 star overall rating. Ive been using these live and in the studio for years and never had any issues at all. The tone is superb, the longevity is inspiring, they're just great strings. I don't see myself using anything else for a long time.

I got a new Ibanez guitar with a set of Elixers and replaced them with another brand. I immediately noted the guitar sounded much better with the old "worn out" Elixers. I took off the new strings and replaced them with a new set of Elixers. They are so much better than any other string I have used in 20 years of playing, it's not even close. They're punchy, loud, chimey and ring a long time. They make other brands sound dead, even when they are new. I have used several sets and have had no problems with the coating coming off. Try em, you won't use anything else.

I've used these strings for death metal, punk and, soft types. they sound great for anything and at this price you're actually being payed to us these strings!

I like the sound very much. The only problem I had was with Polyweb coating on the lower strings. I use Fender Light guitar picks, and after a week of non active playing, the coating started to wear down (probably scratched with a pick) in the strumming area above the pickups, like I would use brass or aluminum guitar pick (which I don?t).I assumed that Polyweb coating has more resistance to the strumming. I had the same problem with electric and acoustic guitar sets.Otherwise, the strings last very long, and the tone is extraordinary.
