OVERVIEW

Elixir Strings with Nanoweb coating last longer and sound great!

Gauges 10-13-17-26-36-46.

The engineers at Elixir took their original Polyweb coating and shrunk it down to Nanoweb size. The result? Brighter-sounding electric guitar strings that last 3 to 5 times longer than regular strings.

In addition to an ultrathin grunge-resistant tubular coating on the wound strings, Nanowebs now have a revolutionary Anti-Rust plating on the plain strings to extend their life too.

Elixirs are the first major innovation in guitar strings in over forty years, and they deliver what they promise: great tone and long life no matter what you put them on or how often you play.

FEATURES
  • Gauges 10-13-17-26-36-46
  • Electric guitar strings constructed with nickel-plated steel wrap wire
  • Played for their bright, vibrant presence and dynamic punch
  • Ultra-thin NANOWEB Coating provides a traditionally textured, “uncoated” feel
  • Patented coating technology protects against common corrosion, extending tone life longer than any other brand’s coated or uncoated strings (Elixir Strings player survey)
  • Anti-Rust Plating on plain steel strings ensures longer tone life for the entire set

Although the strings are advertised as having a long life, I've found them to break easily while bending or tuning. You have to consider that the nanoweb coating Elixer puts on these strings decreases from the monetary resources left over for the actual string; it ends up being cheaper in order to maintain a competitive price. The coating wears off easily and proves to be pretty useless except for serving to make the string slipperier and slidier. As a result, the strings feel smoother on your hands and create less noise from rubbing against them. I like this string noise, and the friction it's caused by helps me, personally, to feel the distance I'm sliding across the string. In other words, it's easier to keep track of where I'm at on the neck. The only possible reason I could think of to use Elixer's would be if you never bend and you really like the slippery feel that they give. I did use them for a while for this purpose, but I now find them to be too slippery. If you are a novice, please look at Ernie Ball or D'addario strings. They withstand more punishment and they have a much more popular, natural, human sound.

Comments about Elixir Electric Guitar Strings with NANOWEB Coating, Light (.010-.046):

I tried these strings and loved them and bought a few sets for both of my gigging guitars. My band performs about 2 to 3 times per month and I just experience my third broken string during a performance within the last 6 months. The latest set was only 3 weeks old. If you can't rely on them when performing, I don't want them! Prior to using these this I can't remember the last time a D'Addario string broke.

They're okay.....

By ExplorerKing

Comments about Elixir Electric Guitar Strings with NANOWEB Coating, Light (.010-.046):

I got these a couple of days ago to throw on my explorer. I had used these on my strat (which I dont play much anymore) before I switched to ernie ball's. Anyway, I put em on, tuned it up and started playing. I thought they sounded okay, but not great. Now, compared to the strings on my explorer, which was new and didn't need new strings until a while ago, they were brighter and steelier sounding, and still are. they may just need to be broken in (still?) after being played a while. Plugged in, they sound ok, but unplugged they sound like butt. But how often are you playing unplugged anyway? They're okay and last a lot longer than other strings, but I'll probably buy something different next time.

Comments about Elixir Electric Guitar Strings with NANOWEB Coating, Light (.010-.046):

To me, these just didn't live up to the hype. They last an incredible long time and the tone is quite consistent but the feeling on the hands while playing with them just really really really bothered me after a while. I just had to go back to my standard strings once these were done with.

They DO at least last a very long time. And it has a nice tone though for me, was unusable either way. Maybe I just got a defective batch which is why I would recommend these to a friend: only to see if they had better luck than I did. If you have good experiences with them, keep using them!!!

    Breaking issues

    By Jeff Smith

    from Spearfish, South Dakota

Comments about Elixir Electric Guitar Strings with NANOWEB Coating, Light (.010-.046):

Overall, I would've loved these strings had I not experienced the breakage problem. I'm gonna stick to my regular uncoated nickel strings and the regular maintenance of said strings for now. Seems to be working alot better for me.
Well the idea behind nanowebs is fantastic, have to say thats why I bought them. Indeed, they were very corrosion and rust resistant, could play an entire gig and not clean my strings, pick my guitar up the next day and with a quick wipe from a finish cloth I was ready to roll.
The features were great...the quality??? Hmmmm.. Let me explain: I bought two sets of these strings, one for my Strat and one for my Les Paul. Strung up my Les Paul first and for maybe two practice sessions and almost a ful gig they performed great. Snapped the high e-string toward the end of their gig debut... that happens though! As a result, I didn't really think anything of it. The next night we were playing the same bar again, so I stung up my Strat with a set of nanowebs and we rocked the joint with no problems. Over the next three or four days I had two solo practice sessions with them and a band rehearsal. The next time I sat down to practice, I start playing a few just whole-step bands and SNAP! There goes another high E-string!! So yeah...not so sure about these strings...
If you don't experience the problems I did, the value for these strings are fantastic. However, this premature breakage problem I've experienced drives the value way down in my opinion...

These string last me about 2 months of daily playing. Un-coated strings last me about a week. These are a bit more "spanky" and less "boomy" than un-coated strings but I just turn down the treble 1 notch and the bass up 1 notch on the amp. Also, they are a bit more slippery than un-coated. I got used to that pretty quickly. Very highly recommended!

Comments about Elixir Electric Guitar Strings with NANOWEB Coating, Light (.010-.046):

I've been using Elixirs almost exclusively for at least six years for both acoustic and electric. I don't need and really don't even like really bright strings so if the coating on these affect the tone it doesn't bother me.
I leave these on until the G starts to be fairly worn which can be months on some guitars (since I own a few and feature a different one every few weeks) and they still give me the good dirty bluesy sound I want.
Another thing I like about Elixirs is that they don't start to leave a metallic odor on my fingers like regular strings do after a week or so. Maybe it's just my particular chemistry but the fingers on my left hand seem to get a residue from uncoated strings and I have to wash my hands after I play for more than a few minutes, especially if I'm going to eat, say, or pick my nose ...
I've tried Cleartones and EXPs and I stick with the Elixirs.
