Elixir

Combat finger grunge!

Gauges: 12-16-24-32-42-53.

Elixir Acoustic Guitar Strings are covered with an ultrathin, space-age polymer tube that contacts the string on the tops of the windings only. This leaves the all-important winding-to-winding-to-core space free from the fear of the enemies of tone!

Elixir Nanoweb coating permits acoustic guitar strings with the feel, bright tone, and punch of traditional strings. Elixirs are the first major innovation in guitar strings in over forty years and they deliver what they promise: great tone and long life no matter what you put them on or how often you play.

Most players report that Elixir Strings keep sounding great 3 to 5 times longer than ordinary strings.

I have been using Elixirs for over a decade. They sound great and last much longer than non-coated strings. They came on my first Taylor guitar, and I have used them exclusively ever since. I play professionally and have used Elixirs on Taylor, Martin, Ovation and Yamaha guitars -- without ever having a string break. I really think that the breakage problems that have been mentioned are primarily due to the playing technique, stringing technique, and/or the guitar.

If you are experiencing breakage problems, I recommend having a guitar tech look at your guitar and check the saddle and nut for any sharp places or burrs that might be causing the breakage. If you are a heavy strummer, I suggest using a heavier gauge string. If you are tuning the guitar higher than 440, the strings will be more susceptible to breaking, due to the higher tension. Lastly, and this one may seem a bit strange, but you could try using a "lighter" gauge string, as well. One well know artist (don't recall his name) stated in a forum that he often broke strings until a friend suggested using a lighter gauge. That solved the problem!

I own 5 Taylors. 914CE, 816CE, W65CE, 420 and a Baby. Since all except the 420 (purchased in 1993) came with Nanoweb Elixirs I was spoiled rotten with the tone. I've had a love affair with Elixir Strings for years. I love these strings ... don't get me wrong. Since day one, I've broken them. On the 914CE, which uses Light Gauge, the G-String would snap at the bridge. I always thought it was me. I tried using fine sandpaper to smooth out any rough spots on the bridge with no luck. So, I'm replacing these strings at a set a week. It drove me crazy to be at a gig and not concentrate on my playing 100% because a string might snap. People I played with had a running bet which song I'd break a string on. So I bought the 816CE which uses Medium Gauge to be a "go to" guitar if I snap a string on the 914CE. Guess what happens now? Yep ... the 816CE starts breaking the Nanoweb Elixirs. This time, it's the D String at the nut. I'm ready to cry now. The W65CE broke strings too but being a 12 string it didn't concern me much because I only used it on 3 or 4 songs. I play hard. I get emotional with playing and that translates into hard picking, for some reason. 3 months ago, I got so disgusted, I tried some D'Adarrio EXP Phosphor Bronze. Guess what? No breakage even with me playing hard, on purpose, trying to break them. The D'Adarrios don't break. I put another set of Elixirs on the 914CE and broke a D-string this time ... at the bridge. The D'Adarrios don't have that Elixir "sound" that I have been addicted to but they sound nice and most importantly ...THEY DON'T BREAK. The D'Adarrios lose that "zing" quicker. They deaden in about a week. Elixir ... please ... I beg of you ... fix the problem. I want to come back. I love you ... I just can't trust you.

Comments about Elixir Light Nanoweb Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I love the Elixir 80/20 bronze strings. Great sound, feel, smoothness to play . I use on my Taylor 614CE,214CE and GS Mini. I use the Elixir Phosphor Bronze on my Taylor T-5. The only issues with Elixir strings are the "G" string dents on the fret marks all the way up the string. I have to replace the strings 2-3 months because the "G" string has a texture at every fret. I tried all other brands, but come right back to the Elixir strings

      Breaking G strings

Comments about Elixir Light Nanoweb Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I have been playing acoustic guitar since 1975 and have used all different guitar strings. I do not break strings as I am not that hard of a player. For acoustics I have a Taylor 810CE that I play every week and a baby taylor, Guild F212XL 12, several good sigmas, a yamaha, epiphone 12, Badell and Ibanez Mandolin, La Patrie classical. Each guitar has a tone of its own. The most expensive Taylor 810CE would consistently break the G string in the set when not even used for 5 hours. I switch to EXP16 and have not had a broken string in years! These Elixir coated strings cost too much to replace every week (or 5 hours of play time).

I have a Taylor 314CE that came with these strings from the factory. I have had the same set on for over 1 year. Though the finish got tarnished after three months, the tone stayed strong. When I finally decided to replace them, it was because they finally went out of true. I ordered the Elixer Light Nanoweb Acoustic Guitar Strings from Musicians friend. The replacement strings returned the guitar to factory new. THe sound is bright, yet with plenty of bttom. The tone is consistent from string to string and the intonation stays ture as far as I can reach on the fretboard.

These strings sound great. Bright resonant tone and they stay that way for much longer than non coated strings. I don't change my strings all that often so these are worth the money.

They hold up well on my Taylor and Martin.
