OVERVIEW

Gauges: 11-14-18-28-38-49.

Nanoweb coating permits electric guitar strings with the feel, bright tone, and punch of traditional strings. Elixirs are the first major innovation in strings in over forty years, and they deliver what they promise: great tone and long life no matter what you put them on or how often you play.

Elixir Plain Steel Strings are covered with an ultra-thin, space-age polymer tube that contacts the string on the tops of the windings only. This leaves the all-important winding-to-winding-to-core space free from the fear of the enemies of tone!

In addition to an ultra-thin grunge-resistant tubular coating on the wound strings, Nanowebs now have a revolutionary Anti-Rust plating on the plain strings to extend their life too.

Most players report that Elixir Strings keep sounding great 3 to five times longer than ordinary strings.

Combat finger grunge!

I may seem a wee bit over-zealous about this, but it simply makes no sense to me why more people do not use these. I adore the vintage tones that so many guitarists seek to acquire, but you do not have to settle for dead, dull, lifeless strings just to be vintage! I bought a brand new Gretsch g5125 hollowbody and was stoked at the complex tones I was getting out of the maple body and the dearmond single coils... but... the first couple packs of strings I tried were dead as a flippin doornail. I tried to deal with it but there was nothing classic or vintage about my immense lack of sustain and "plunky" tone. I was used to using Elixers for my acoustics so I said what the heck lets see if they help. I had already spent a week tweaking the bone nut, refiling grooves, adjusting the bridge and bigsby tailpiece... they all checked out. BAM! the elixers laughed in the face of those crappy Ernie Ball strings everyone uses, or D'Addario or anything else.Bottome line: do it now. forget what everyone tells you and try it! You will hear things in your guitar you never knew were there.

Grounding issues

I don't usually write reviews and I have loved Elixirs on my acoustic and still do ... they're simply the best. So it pains me a little to write this.

I tried the Med. Nano electrics on my 335 style (semi-hollow), and around the same time I had to replace the output jack. After I did this I was getting some noticable noise problems, like a grounding issue. There was a buzz and everytime I touched something metal on the guitar it would quiet down. I assumed it was the jack that I didn't solder it correctly. Long story, short, I tried everything from replacing all my patch cables, new power supplies for my board, redid the output jack about 6 times, etc, etc. It was maddening because nothing was making the buzz go away.

On a whim, I decided to check the continuity of my guitar with a meter ... and low and behold the low E, A and D strings weren't carrying much, if any, electrical charge. Only 1/2 of my strings were grounded. I changed my strings to uncoated ones and my noise problem disappeared.

My experience might be isolated to this particular guitar but I'm thinking that this issue might be overlooked or mistaken for something else. I hope I can help out another player.

Comments about Elixir Nanoweb Electric Medium Strings:

I started using these probably almost 20 years ago. They are the only ones I will use, period. They have a Long life, consistant tone, resist corrosion. I don't know what else I would use that would be better at a fair price.

Comments about Elixir Nanoweb Electric Medium Strings:

I was playing a Taylor T5Z at Guitar Center and it felt so good. The strings felt like they were sprayed down with that Finger Ease stuff. I did a search on line to find out what strings the guitar came with... these strings. Amazing feel. They have plastic in them so I assume that's where the feel comes from. They sound huge; loaud but not too bright and they last a long time. Killer strings. Buy the .011 to .049 if you're looking for a more electric feel.

Comments about Elixir Nanoweb Electric Medium Strings:

I have been using Elixirs for the last four years or so and here's why. I used to buy the regular EBs but I got tired of the strings rusting and sounding dead after a couple of weeks and having to replace them so much. Now I only change my strings every six or so months and I could probably get away with waiting longer if I wanted to. These strings are very strong as well. I have yet to break a string (broke strings a lot with the EBs) and I do a lot of rough bending when I play. These are consistent, sound almost brand new after six months, and do not go dull. While these don't sound as good as the first two hours of playing a brand new pack of Ernie Balls, they sound 90 percent as good and stay that way. Also, these strings feel very slick and comfortable up and down the neck. Now when I play regular strings on someone else's guitar, they feel rough and unpleasant to deal with. I will never buy any other brand of strings again. Elixirs forever!

Comments about Elixir Nanoweb Electric Medium Strings:

I've had Elixir Nanoweb strings on 3 different guitars and 1 mandolin, and I have been extremely pleased with the longevity and tonal quality of these compared to 'major brand name' strings. They're very consistent and the lighter guage strings are not as prone to breakage as most others. Great product!

I play for Churches...rock to everything else! I bought them once and from that point on been a believer. I tend to sweat when I play and regular strings are destroyed after one use. These last me a couple weeks. A few performances and everyday practice. I probably don't have to change them even then but I just want to sound my best.
By the way, if you are like me and dispise changing strings all the time then these are the ones for you!
