Possibly Best In Production Instrument Cable

By Brother Dave-MLJxZ

from Albemarle NC

Comments about Elixir Premium Instrument Cable Straight - Straight:

Firstly, I'm not a fan of Elixir strings. Secondly my favorite cables are the MIT RIPCORD BASS cables are no longer in production. This one is now the best mass produced cable for passive electric bass left. You really have to try this cable. Lifetime Guarantee too. Can't get that with a custom cable can you?
Good solid cable. Very low capacitance for ultra transparency and minimal signal degradation. You don't need a different cable for each type instrument, just one. In particular this is a great bass cable with ultra low coloration. Mine is the really long one, it is either 20 or 25 feet. I forget which. While the cable itself is thick, it is very flexible-unlike the Monster Bass cables that coil back up in their original shape. Unless you are going to go with custom made Mogami or Canare cables with Switchcraft, Neutrik or G&H connectors this is about the best choice on the rack.
Possibly the best currently mass marketed in-production cable on the market. Good solid connectors. After over 2 years use, no issues at all.
You can spend more or you can spend less. There is no need to do either. This is the best mass produced cable on the market.

Best Instrument Cable

By A Remnant

from Santa Maria, CA

Comments about Elixir Premium Instrument Cable Straight - Straight:

Is there a hype of instrument cables. Or is a cable a cable, like is an egg an egg. Not here. Been playing live music for 30 years. Last year I bought a Vox AC30 Head with a Vox Cab 4 x 12. I wanted the best sound out of this monster, so like you guys I checked reviews. I saw the video with Tom Anderson and the explaination of the cables. That's what sold me. Believe me, I didn't want to spend no $50, but like I said I wanted full quality of the tone out of my guitars. The big test was my wireless unit. I bought an AKG WMS 40 Pro. When using my setup with this unit it would crack or mute for a second while playing live. I thought it was because it was a cheap unit. But since using the elixir there has been no issues. I didn't lose tone, and didn't lose signal. Also for my effects boxes I use George L's. The difference between a standard cable and elixir is the flexibilty. Elixirs are pretty stiff, if you play with the cable connected to the guitar and your an animated player, it's hard to manuever around the stage, but if you just stand there, then there's no problem. So that's my take on elixir cables.

Elixir Premium Cable

By Twohipman

from Orange, CA

Comments about Elixir Premium Instrument Cable Straight - Straight:

I received the Elixir cable at Winter NAMM 2011 after a lengthy discussion with the developers of the product. We covered impedance levels and capacitance of the cord, and decided that an A-B test with other cables would be the best way to prove their claims. I ran a Taylor accoustic directly into Pro Tools through a Neve console. Gain was at a constant setting throughout the test. I tested cables from Mogami, Monster and Guitar Center. Across the board, the Elixir provided wider frequency response and consistently gave a "truer" sound of the guitar. Over the "best" cords it gave almost 12% better signal, (Measuring db and gain response).

Compared a much better vaule!

By Stazz-hno7R

from Los Angeles

Comments about Elixir Premium Instrument Cable Straight - Straight:

Elixir mailed me their cable last week, free to evaluate. I have been trying out various cables ranging from CoreX2 to Klotz cables. The first cable I compared it to was the Klotz La Grange (10?). This is probably not a fair comparison regarding the different lengths used. Surprisingly, the Elixir cable has a nice full spectrum of tones. The Klotz cable seemed a bit warmer to me, but for the price, is a good contender. I noticed that this cable with its brighter highs might work better with a rock rig. I am primarily a jazz guitarist using an Acoustic Image Clarus 2R head and a Redstone speaker cab. I have a Mesa Boogie rack rig with Monster Rock 21? cable. The Elixir cable, hands down, won the competition. Very dramatic difference! It was like lifting a blanket off of my speaker cabs. The cable is a bit thick so if you do not play standing in one place, might pose problems, but not for me. Mackie?s marketing slogan works here! This one is ?built like a tank?! Elixir has my business! I am swapping out all my Monster cables in favor of these new Elixir cables! A much better value!

not just another high end cable

By martinguitarlover91

from Neosho, MO

Comments about Elixir Premium Instrument Cable Straight - Straight:

I have everything from monster-planetwaves-mogmai-george l's-your everyday garden variety cables, and this elixir cable is amazing. I have two 10' cables... one to go from my guitar to my pedal board... and one to go from my pedal board to my amp. I have george l's in my board because they dont have to move a lot. you cant beat these elixir cables with anything. I want elixir to make patch cables now. I need 16 of them... lol. I will never use nething else.

This is a GREAT cable!

By StratDaddy-3prn.

from Gadsden, Alabama

Comments about Elixir Premium Instrument Cable Straight - Straight:

I used it for the first time in church this past Sunday. Absolutely no hum whatsoever. I heard nothing but the truest "plugged in" sound that I've ever heard come from my acoustic. Please remember that unless you have a good pickup this cable is not for you. Sometimes less is better, but if you have a good guitar with good electronic this will produce the authentic clean sound of your guitar.

excellent clarity

By Ron-3ofRt

from North Carolina

Comments about Elixir Premium Instrument Cable Straight - Straight:

I play acoustic-electric guitar. For quite sometime I have used monster cables and have been very please with the sound. I have found that over all Elixir strings were the best strings to use on acoustic or electric guitars. I thought as good as the strings do playing and tuning, that what the heck I'll try one of these cables. As soon as I started playing I could tell a big difference in the sound. From the lows, mids and highs every note was much more clear. As with Monster cables the Elixir is kind of expensive but if you what you instrument to sound clear with out any humming or background noises it's definantley worth the price.

A Decent Cable

By readboox

from Le Mars, IA

Comments about Elixir Premium Instrument Cable Straight - Straight:

I used the Elixer Premium cable through a Mesa 50 watt Single Rectifier combo, and the sound quality was good. That is the problem though, it's only good, not great. There is a small loss of tone, and bass resonating especially. There is also a small lack of picking response and dynamics so the highs and mids do not sound as brilliant. A very well built cable, maybe a tad bulky, and a little pricey for the sound quality, but still delivers decent sound.
