See All EMG Humbucker Pickups

While the EMG-60 humbucker still features the close aperture coils loaded with ceramic magnets for the brightest attack of any of EMG's many humbucking models, this pickup also packs plenty of output with both clarity and cut through high end. The EMG-60 guitar pickup is incredible for rhythm guitar as metal and extreme players have discovered. James Hetfield's signature ESP models use EMG-60s because their distinctive crunch sets any rhythm player apart in the mix of a band that pumps a lot of midrange from the stage.

With a distinctive tone for soloing, the 60 works perfectly as a clear, yet fat lead pickup. The resonance slope is steeper but the peak is higher than other EMG models. The EMG-60 pickup is the result of a lot of input from various people. It is probably the most versatile humbucking pickup EMG makes, but doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

Great pickup

Comments about EMG-60 Humbucking Active Guitar Pickup:

I had the EMG 81, 85 combo. I replaced the EMG 85 with the EMG 60. This pickup gets the most pretty clean sound and compared to the 85 I like the 60's clean tone lots, lots better. The volume and bass are more equal to the 81 so when I switch pups there is no volume change. It also has a very nice distorted tone. I'm metal all the way. The EMG 60 and EMG 81 are the way to go. This is a much better combo than the 85 (no offense to anyone). I did keep my 85 and will always have it in storage but I'm sticking with the 60. The 81 is by far hotter than the 60 but the 60 gets a great bite. I love the pickup. I'm very satisfied with my 81, 60 combo. This is the way to go.....Thanks for reading my review.

Comments about EMG-60 Humbucking Active Guitar Pickup:

Excellent pickup. Spendy but worth it. Only complaint is tech support is nearly none existent and instructions are a bit vague. I bought a Ibanez RG321 knowing the pickups suck so I got this one and an 81. The rg has a 5 selector swich and emg didn't have a diagram for that. On their website under FAQ's they answer this by saying, "We don't use those switches so we don't have a diagram." Thanks guys. And one enormous oversite on the instructions is where you plug their wires into the back of the pickup, it will plug 2 ways but only works one way. Look VERY closely for two arrows to line up. An absolute must to get any output. Took me two weeks and 4 guitar techs to figure that part out. Otherwise excellent.

Comments about EMG-60 Humbucking Active Guitar Pickup:

I wasn't the genius to figure these are the bomb, it was my quest to follow in Rammstein's shoes. They have two guitarists, and Paul Landers PU's are the 81/60(his Sig Gibson has them too), and Richard Kruspe also rocks the 81, but he does ESP!

Since I couldn't afford his Signature, I got an ESP EC-1000, which comes with these puppies.

These PU's record better than the Gibson 490s or BurstBuckers(I know, I brought three Gibsons home and recorded them, and then brought the EC-1000)!

I had the nicer and the cheaper Gibson Studios, and the best Epiphone Custom, and the tone I got from them was decent, but not worth the money.

Overall the 60's were impressive, way more than anything else I have played. I honestly don't know why someone would need an 85 when you got an 81. I was puzzled cause a lot of stars like Wylde do the 85.

I haven't recorded an 85 or the 89. All I know is that an ESP with 81/60, I have a great do-it-all Industrial Metal Guitar that can still do the nice blues.

For me I play through my Line6 UX2 with the BX5a studio monitors and Audio Technica Headphones. The guitar effects make any guitar sound amazing especially on those speakers. But

It doesn't matter amazing your simulated amps and effects are, if you don't have the right guitar and pickups. Personally I would recommend the guitars that have these pups stock.

Comments about EMG-60 Humbucking Active Guitar Pickup:

I use the 60's in the neck position, although wouldn't hesitate to put on in the bridge. It's very much like a PAF type sound, but, much cleaner. Well defined notes, not muddy, and zero noise. The thing I've always liked about EMG's is they tell the truth about the wood underneath them, unlike a lot of other pickups. Try one, you'll like it!

EMG pickups are plug and play. Simple and fast swap out from other EMG's. I replaced an EMG 85 with this one in a Epiphone Explorer. Dramatic tone difference and improvement.

Comments about EMG-60 Humbucking Active Guitar Pickup:

I've found the best pickups EVER. I had always heard rumors and hear-say about pickups that 'crunch'. After my EMG 60 pickups were installed, I was litterally floored by the amount of 'Punch' these bad boys can throw out. The clean sound is the most clear and articulate clean by far. Hands down the best active pickup on the market.

Comments about EMG-60 Humbucking Active Guitar Pickup:

This pickup came stock in the neck of my ESP LTD EC-1000 along with an EMG 81 in the bridge. All I can say is that this pickup is amazing. I play metal and play with my treble and bass turned up and the mids pulled way back on my amp. It definitely has the mid range crunch and brillance as advertised. For distorted lead playing the sound is smooth and full with just the right amount of crunch and for rhythm it packs plenty of punch. The clean sound is very strong and sounds good for chords and lead alike. This pickup is so good that I don't hardly ever use the 81, for lead or rhythm. It's a shame that this pickups isn't more popular because it is a very versatile and excellent sounding pickup. Just be warned that if you get this pickup that you may never need to use a bridge pickup again!

            Great Neck Pickup

Comments about EMG-60 Humbucking Active Guitar Pickup:

I swapped out the stock pickups in my PRS SE Singlecut and put in EMG's. An 81 in the bridge and the 60 in the neck. This pickup produces one of the best clean tones I've ever heard. I pretty much use the guitar for drop-c tunings, and while the 81 roars, the 60 lets me drop back for a smooth warm clean setting when I switch to the neck. Don't believe that you have to put a 85 in the neck because everyone else does. Even the guitar tech who installed it said it was an incredible pickup for blues and clean sounds. Very satisfied with the purchase.

I have one of these in the neck in a different guitar and bought this one to go in a bridge position. Couldn't be happier. Super bright cleans and even handles the dirty channel on my rockerverb like a beast. I know this is commonly a neck pickup, but do not rule it out if you are looking for something a little different from an 81.

I had originally bought a ESP guitar based on its EMG 60/81 description. When that turned out not to be correct, GOOD GUY Musician's Friend did the best thing ever: they shipped EMG 60 free and didn't ask for the EMG 81 in return! SWEET. Excellent customer service. And the EMG 60 was a snap to install and it's the exact sound I wanted.

Comments about EMG-60 Humbucking Active Guitar Pickup:

I installed this pickup (along with the 81) on an esp m series model with passives on it and it really makes a differene. First I have to say that installation was not difficult. You just have to pay close attention to the diagrams but it was fairly easy. No soldering required here.

I play Rock mostly, but I do love to play blues slide and classical and some country here and there. This pickup is very fat sounding, producing a lot of low end and rich harmonics, which is what I was looking for in an active pickup. It's very responsive to the pick attack and finger picking as well. This smokes the emg 85 for versatility in my opinion. And it plays heavy with high gain settings. A great pickup for a wide range of styles. Give it a try.

This pick up is a great pick up. I prefer the alinco emg 60A over this but this one is an excellent choice clean, clear, extra mids, a ton of crunch & a lot of tone with good harmonics. James Hetfeild of Metallica used this pick up for years I think KK downing of Judas priest uses this too. And yet an undiscovered groundbreaking pick up. Not as hot as the 81 but more definition in the mix.

OK Ive used guitars with emgs. at local music places. so Ive used schecters and most guitars. well i like the 60 good clarity and tones. from clean to dirty it sounds great. I'm planning to get an ibanez grga32t in a bit. put a 60 in the neck and 85 in bridge. other than 60/81. The 60/81 Will distinguish you from rhythm parts and if your rhythm pick the 60/81 set or what i said 60/85(the 60/85 is a cool set ive thought of trying and using). well my point is great pickup. buy this for great tones.
