Comments about EMG-81TW Active Dual-Mode Humbucker Guitar Pickup:
I ordered a Schecter Hellraiser with the 81-TW and 89 pickup combination and ended up returning the guitar. Despite claims by EMG that they are same they just don't sound as good as the EMG 81/85 pickups. I experimented with the pickup heights for several hours, even put in a brand new battery but still found them to be cold and sterile sounding with no personality. I don't believe the construction of the guitar (mahogany & maple) has anything to do with it because I played another Hellraiser model with the active 81 & 85 pickups on it and it sounded fantastic.
Comments about EMG-81TW Active Dual-Mode Humbucker Guitar Pickup:
Absolute crap pickups. Played them in an Epi Les Paul Nightfall and some other obscure guitar that i forgot the name of. TERRIBLE. Dull, lifeless sound, pathetic range, and harmonic qualities were nil. EMGs haven't ever really made a good pickup, but these are some of the worst I've ever played.
Comments about EMG-81TW Active Dual-Mode Humbucker Guitar Pickup:
I have this and a EMG 89 that came stock in a Schecter C-1 FR, and while the two pickups can get you a lot of good sounds, they don't inspire me. If you use the volume and tone knobs wisely you will get a wide variety of good, usable sounds from these pickups, but my main complaint is that I don't "feel" them. With my SD and Dimarzio equipped guitars it feels like I'm playing them and they spark my creativity, but these sounds like I'm listing to someone else play them. Now I'm not saying they sound bad, they're just not exciting to play, which for me, is a deal breaker.
Comments about EMG-81TW Active Dual-Mode Humbucker Guitar Pickup:
Would think these are good pickups. Terrible buzzing, terrible feedback, horrible hollow cold sound. I don't see how people like these, I think they produce a horrible sound for any type of music. Seymour Duncan puts EMG to shame, seriously the pickups that come in cheap beginner guitars are better than these.
Comments about EMG-81TW Active Dual-Mode Humbucker Guitar Pickup:
I recently bought this pickup and it realy is the best pickup for metal and the push/pull knob works great and comes in handy when you wont to get a good clean/distortion sound for a fast crunchy solo. I like to change to the 89 during a good solo because the 81 gets alot of feed back when you take your hand off the top strings so I just switch and it sound good and clean/heavy during solos. And one problem I ran into is I turned the volume up one time and it turned all the way around and didn't stop so I would putt diferent pots in it.
Comments about EMG-81TW Active Dual-Mode Humbucker Guitar Pickup:
I got my new Schecter Yesterday and it was this pickup in the bridge position. It sounds amazing and is as quiet as can be. Most pickups start to hiss back when you turn up the volume, but this think stays quiet and stays chunky as hell on any volume.
Comments about EMG-81TW Active Dual-Mode Humbucker Guitar Pickup:
i recently purchased this pickup in the bridge of a guitar i rebuilt as well as an 89 in the neck, these are amazing however when in humbucker "mode" the pickup has a lot of out put but when in single coil "mode" you notice a slight difference when distorted but a huge difference in output when clean, other than that they are easy to install they come with all the parts and very easy to read diagram all in all this is my favorite pickup combo and i will soon upgrade all of my humbucker guitars with the emg 81tw and 89
