The EMG-GC21 SA pickup and pickguard set combines the attributes of the early Stratocasters sound but with an added midrange response and higher output, giving it "bell-like" ringing harmonics and increased sustain. One single Alnico bar magnet delivers classic overdrive with a smooth midrange distortion, while still retaining the familiar high-end of a single-coil pickup. These characteristics provide greater versatility than what is normally found in single-coil guitar pickups. Favorites of Steve Lukather and David Gilmour just to name two, the EMG-GC21 SA Set comes with volume and tone controls, and a five-position switch which is all ready to mount onto your pickguard.

Package Includes: EMG's exclusive Quik-Connect cables (3), prewired control set including volume, 2 tone controls, 5-way selection switch (black & white knobs), output jack, and battery clip, screws & springs.

I recently purchased this item. Botton line upfront - AWESOME! I installed this in a MIM 1997 Fender Strat I bought new 14 years ago. This guitar is now smoking. I had two original stock fender pickups and a duncan hot-rails in the bridge. It was competent but not at all spectacular. That has now changed. This blows it away. Clean or distortion, this guitar now sounds incredible. The sound will be better than you can imagine. No disappointments at all.Installation was very easy. As advertised no soldering. You remove the 11 screw pick -guard and connect three cables and repalce you cable plug. Rescrew the new pick guard in and that it. The biggest challenge was finding enough room for the battery.

This pickguard absolutely drove me crazy trying to install. It does not matter where you try to put the battery it causes a problem with binding the wiring or pushing on the pots or other components.I could not get the pickguard to lay flat no matter where I put the battery. Then be very very careful pushing the wires around because you will cause the push in connections to come loose.I had all these problems I just mentioned plus a couple more like the volume pot not working properly..I tried 4 times to get this working as it should but with no success so I just gave up on it..put my old Alnico set back in which took 4 minutes... I would not feel comfortable playing without a back up because there are so many things about this prewired pickguard that could cause trouble with so many components inside the controls not even mention what hassle it would be to change the battery if the pickups start fading..And you start pulling and pushing the Battery trying to change it out you don't know what wire to the pots or switch you could dis-lodge...Like I said the sound is good but too much stress and worry

Best music $ I ever spent!!!

Comments about EMG-GC21 SA Prewired Pickguard Set:

I dropped this into my MexiStrat and like a previous reviewer said, it went from a $300 guitar to a $2000 guitar... I had a HotRails in it before in the bridge and the stock pickups for the other two. I had no idea the tones that I would be able to get out of the guitar... my normal clean tone with delay now sounds dead on the early Chris Isaak stuff with Jimmy Wilsey(Wicked Game, etc...). When needed though it can definitely rock out!

Awesome Sound for the Price

Comments about EMG-GC21 SA Prewired Pickguard Set:

I installed this on a Mexican Strat that I bought dirt cheap on Ebay, and am a HUGE Gilmour fan, and wanted better sound than the crappy pickups the guitar came with. Installation was a breeze! NO soldering, and the sound is amazing! Night and Day, sounds like a $2000 custom strat now.

Very easy install and unbelievable change to the old girl. The tone and gains are more than I could have ever imagined. I was first going for the David Gilmore setup, but after comparing went with this setup to save a c note. Have only installed for just a few days, but can't put her down.

Comments about EMG-GC21 SA Prewired Pickguard Set:

This product is amazing. I installed it in less than a half hour and was playing in no time. The only way to describe the quality is that I went from Toyota to Rols Royce in a half hour. The pickup ups set was easy to install and I found that the tremolo access minus a spring is where the batter found it's new home. Awesome product.

I had just bought a 1989 Japanese strat and I wasn't so convinced about buying it at first just because it was made in Japan.. I was so used to playing ibanez guitars that playing a strat just wasn't my style.. well I ended up buying the start, of course it has all the original things on it so first thing I changed were the pickups, so I bought these EMG's, I couldn't be any happier now! if you want a really clean and strong tone, these are the ones! I like to play mostly a sort of latin rock with a mix of blues and funk. So these definitely fit my style. great great tone!! I strongly recommend these for you! very quiet also! it also has a kick when you hit that distortion. Every note you play couldn't come out any clearer!! AWESOME!

Comments about EMG-GC21 SA Prewired Pickguard Set:

'90s vintage Lotus Strat copy made in India, wonderful neck and action, terrible pickup hum. Previously tried shielding body cavity, no joy. Decided on this set after extensive shopping. Website said available 1/24, I figured OK, I'll wait. These were on my doorstep today 1/14 and in the guitar in a couple of hours. Installation was easy; only mods to guitar: expand output jack wire channel to 7/16", drill two holes for pickguard mounting. Instructions clear, with color illustrations and suggested pickup height; 9v battery did not fit in suggested area so I mounted it between neck and middle pickups with adhesive Velcro. Plugged it in to my Marshall MG30DFX and noodled around for hours exploring the tone, but I've just begun. First impressions: Strat tone is intact, clearer than ever, and sustain and string balance are wonderful. Finding harmonics I never knew existed. Chords and riffs clear and ringing. This one's gone from the plain-Jane in the corner to the belle of the ball, for me.

Comments about EMG-GC21 SA Prewired Pickguard Set:

The EMG-GC21 has brought my '85 Strat back to life! It had always been noisy with unwanted feedback plus the tone was more than a bit harsh. Install of the EMG-GC21 was easy... There was one hole in the EMG pickguard that was in a different spot that the original - 2 minute fix. I was a bit concerned about installing active pickups as to where to put the battery. Turned out to be a non-issue - battery easily fit beneath the tone pots in the body. The difference in sound quality is striking. All the noise/feedback issues are gone, plus great sound without loosing any of the "Stratocaster" tone. I am very satisfied with the quality, fit, finish and sound of the EMG-GC21 on my Strat. As a bonus, the all black components look fantastic with a sunburst finish body!
