      EMG

Increases low-frequency response while maintaining traditional tone.

Sweeping harmonic overtones and clarity, these active bass pickups have full-bodied sounds that add new dimensions to your bass playing. They have very low ratios of resistance to inductance that increase the low-frequency response, yet still maintain the narrow aperture for that typical Jazz Bass tone. Instead of the side-by-side pole pieces, the EMG-Js use single-pole crescent-shaped magnetic fields to complement the radiused fingerboard. So whether you play fretted or fretless bass, you'll get incredible sound yet retain that traditional tone.

Recommended maximum overall string width, however, is 2-3/4" (70 mm). The EMG-J bass pickups come complete with prewired harnesses including dual volume controls, master tone controls, output jacks, battery clips, and pickup adjustment screws.

Comments about EMG-J Active Bass Pickup Set:

I have a cheap peavey bass and the electronics were very bad so I decided I needed an upgrade and these pick-ups where the best thing i could have done for my bass. The buzz you get is close to nothing when you are plugged in. They have all the tone and depth that I was looking for in new pick-ups.

        think twice

Comments about EMG-J Active Bass Pickup Set:

I have these in one of my J-basses. EMG pups compared to Fender's God-awful, buzz-filled, stock electronics are fantastic. The problem is EMGs are fairly sterile sounding compared to a number of other active pup manufacturers. These pups LACK overtones. Do yourselves a HUGE favor and comparison shop the sound of various active pups before you buy. At the very least check out what Bartolini J pups sound like. You'll be glad at that point you avoided the EMGs.

A step up from stock pickups

Comments about EMG-J Active Bass Pickup Set:

I wanted some pickups that could reduce the hum from my amp and the schools amp(the hum is so horrible that you can hear 90%hum 10% sound).Well i bought these and the hum is not a problem. Its very bright and clear. My only issue with these pickups is the bridge pickups is quieter (volume wise) then the neck pickup. Other than that they are awesome!!! Ill be back some for some EMG PJ pu.s soon.

        Decent pickups.

Comments about EMG-J Active Bass Pickup Set:

I have a Rondo 4 string Jazz Bass. It's a Fender clone. Got bored with the "stock" sound, so we changed them out with the EMG's. Overall, I am happy with them. To my amazement, the sound difference does NOT warrant the upgrade. I guess my bass is worth more with the upgraded pickups??? That is definitely one positive outcome. If you already own a Fender J bass, I think you'll be mildly disappointed. You probably aren't going to notice any amazing "new sound" coming from your amplifier. I wished I had done more research and test drove a bass with active pickups before buying the EMG's.

Comments about EMG-J Active Bass Pickup Set:

When I was looking to replace the p-ups in my Mexican jazz bass I was looking at passive bassline p-ups but the music store only had these and boy am I glad they did. These are great for metal and hard rock. The members in my band were amazed at the difference in tone. I tune down to BEAD and these are great for the low tunings.

        Spice your gear

Comments about EMG-J Active Bass Pickup Set:

I changed my old Select designed by EMG pickups for my custom local made bass. The bass itself is a 10 years old bass with J style pickups. At first I was exceptic on the new pickups, since the old ones were already EMGs but passive. I've installed the active EMGs with a 18v circuit. The sound is rich and while still similar, is completely full and has more frecuencies and volume overall. Highly recomended. BTW, you'll have to change all the circuit, I got a BQC system with it too. It spiced up my bass, the neck pickup is full and round while the bridge one is nicer for solos and jazz with full of mids. Get one set, you will not be dissapointed.

        HOT DAMN!

Comments about EMG-J Active Bass Pickup Set:

slapped these puppies in my 1976 Fender Jazz bass after 20 years of owning it.. during past winter discovered Dimarzio type pickup at bridge was not working.. tax refund came, found perfect excuse to upgrade pickups in this bass.. I do not play this bass very often as i also have B.C. Rich 5 and 4 string basses, 2006 Fender P-Jazz, an older Ibanez TR series bass, and an Ibanez acoustic/electric bass. 1976 Jazz is like fine wine, sample a bit a put it up for later.. These pickups really woke this bass up.. Did not want to carve the body up for the battery so i mounted the battery outside.. Minimal soldering was required..

        Bassmaximus!

Comments about EMG-J Active Bass Pickup Set:

I finally got around to upgrading pickups on my 1976 issue Fender Jazz bass I've owned since 1986.. Bridge pickup died so I felt it was time to upgrade. Took an afternoon of work but well worth it. The only drawback is I now need to find someone good at workworking to cut out a cavity in the bass for the battery. The new pickups woke the bass up! It was like buying a new reissue bass with hot pickups.. I play a variety of styles from rock to funk to jazz, and this pickups crank!
