The H4A uses an Alnico 5 magnet for a pronounced mid-range and fat top end. With plenty of punchy tone, it's perfect in the bridge position for the player who wants to rock. The H4A is the perfect guitar pickup for blues or in combination with the H4 pickup, as is used on Epiphone's Zakk Wylde "Bullseye" Guitar. All HZ Pickups have EMG's exclusive 5-wire Quik-Connect output allowing any number of wiring combinations, and are fully shielded for a minimum of noise. String grounding is recommended to further decrease noise.

Comments about EMG H4A Passive Humbucker:

I put this badass in the bridge position of my B.C. Rich to replace the stock pickups, and I have never heard such a brutal sound before. Awesome for heavy metal, sounds great clean. You wont regret getting this.

Comments about EMG H4A Passive Humbucker:

This is an awesome pickup. It has a naturalvibrato and if you play it on overdrive settingsit sings just like a violin. This pickup is veryhot..and it wails. The H4 is great to pair withit. They both have equivalent harmonics..but thisH4A is just like its evil twin. The H4 is powerfuland gutsy. This pickup is powerful and gutsy as well...accept it has not been taught any manners. It is not polite like the H4 at all. If you likewhammy's and playing with effects in the bridge position..this is the one for you. It also does beautiful blues as well. When paired with the H4 in the neck you will truly hear your guitar change sounds when you change the selector switch. When played through a solid state is sounds awesome for that raspy garage sound. Thats what i love. When played through a tube..its clear as a bell..and if you get a digital effect amp such as a spider..you will be very pleased as these pickups are noise free. They sound slightly better than other pickups at about 15 watts..but at 100+ they really distance themselves by a mile.

Comments about EMG H4A Passive Humbucker:

Okay, I've tried quiet a bit of pickups to put in my Jackson Rhoads, from Seymour Duncan's Jb & Dimebucker, to an assortment of Dimarzio's. This pickup blows the other's out of the water. This pickup was built for metal. Don't waste your time on the regular Emg H4, Get the H4A, It's alot more clear, and the highs are great. This is definitely a Metal pickup. The cleans are suprisingly crystal clear. I pair it with an EMG H3 on the neck position, and with both pickups activated, it's very strat like.I also own an Emg 81 in my other guitar and this one supprisingly comes close in sound. Harmonics are amazing. If your into metal and looking for a passive Pickup, look no further.

Comments about EMG H4A Passive Humbucker:

When compared with the H4 this has more of a distinctive sound no matter the fx used. It is great to pair with the H4 though. I've never played on pickups that the tone changed soo much with the tone knob. Volume knob also plays a lot of influence so no need to be on 10 the whole time.

I would definitely agree with another reviewer saying these have a megadeth sound. With a splash of Deftones - my own summer.

Also would agree these really shine at high volume! At practice volumes though it doesn't... They are just good. Which is the reason for the 4 stars.

Comments about EMG H4A Passive Humbucker:

In regards to my last review also titled "Flawless!!!" which should be just below this one, I must add that the H4A has an alnico magnet where as the H4 has a ceramic magnet. You do need to consider that alnico usually has a looser, more mellow tone , ceramic usually offers a more pronounced, tighter sound. For the most part, pickups with alnico magnets produce great tone for bluesy, or rock. If you are going to pump your guitar full of distortion for a nice tight metal focused tone (which I usually do) then you may want to go with a ceramic magnetized pickup which is what the regular H4 has. So with that being said, it's all about what fits your playing style, genre, or personal preference as to whether you want to go with the H4 or the H4A. Both are great in their own ways.

Comments about EMG H4A Passive Humbucker:

EMG H4A is the best one, especially for metal!!! These are my favorite pickups on the planet and I love them to death! I have played just about every pickup out there and these are amazing! Perfect medium between actives and passives, these are the best of both worlds. I mostly play Christian Rock, Metal, soft rock, worship, and many others. BUY THESE!!!...and if you regret getting these, then you simply have bad taste and shouldn't be playing guitar at all, with all do respect. They're are plenty of amazing pickups out there, and choosing others over the HZs is fine, but if you think that these are "bad" pickups, then you are just wrong and in denial. One more thing, I will have to agree with some other comments I saw here as well. If you are looking to get the H4A or the normal H4, get the H4A instead, it really is a more aggressive, yet clearer sounding pickup with more articulation and sharpness to the tone. But the H4 is not bad, it just has a darker, uglier, gloomy sort of sound that appears to seem less clear. But if that's what you would rather have, then do it. All EMG HZs are the bomb!!!

Really nice for the price, I threw these bad boys into an SG 310. Really hits the highs and lows well for old school metal, newer metal bands, not so great. You get that Zakk Wylde sound, really good.
